Iran FM, Red Cross Chief Discuss Syria, Yemen Crises

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer meeting in Tehran on March 11, 2018 / Photo released by the Iranian foreign ministry

During the Sunday meeting, Maurer expressed the ICRC’s willingness to continue its talks and cooperation with the Islamic Republic on the most important humanitarian problems in the region.

He also briefed the Iranian foreign minister on the humanitarian crises in some countries like Syria, Yemen and Iraq.

For his part, Zarif said the Islamic Republic of Iran does whatever in its power to relieve the sufferings of the war-stricken nations of Yemen and Syria and send humanitarian aid to them.

The two sides also exchanged views on the latest humanitarian developments in Syria and the urgent need for evacuation of civilians from battlefields in Eastern Ghouta.

The necessity of declaring an immediate truce in Yemen as well as sending humanitarian and medical aid to the Yemenis was also discussed during the meeting.

Suspicious Extremist Activities in Pakistan ahead of Iran FM’s Trip

Suspicious Extremist Activities in Pakistan ahead of Iran FM’s Trip

In a bid to eclipse Zarif’s visit which comes to help settle the existing problems and boost mutual cooperation, some extremist groups in Pakistan provoked by Saudi Arabia are seeking to create the impression that the resistance front is to blame for the killing of Syrian people.

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is a Pakistani politician who is currently a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan and the President of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. He has tried, time and again, to make the terrorist group Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan lean towards him and to justify their presence. He has announced that all of his supporters will stage protest rallies in Pakistan on Sunday.

On the other hand, one of the Wahhabi sheikhs known as the acting Imam of Masjid al-Haram, has travelled to Pakistan, too, to further stir up the sentiments of Pakistani people. Pakistani media have painted a holy picture of him and described him as the Imam of Kaaba, a Farsi report by Tasnim said.

Fazl-ur-Rehman has described members of Takfiri terrorist groups as “people” and turns a blind eye to their crimes, namely their repeated mortar and rocket attacks on residents of Damascus.

He had claimed that the killing of people in Ghouta by the Syrian army and its allies should be probed by the international community, and that the resistance front should be put under pressure in order for the massacre of innocent people to stop.

This comes as Fazl-ur-Rehman has remained tight-lipped in the face of years of blockade and the killing of innocent people in al-Foua and Kefraya. He has not even asked his terrorist friends to end the inhumane siege.

Pakistan is no stranger to the schemes such as the one engineered by Fazl-ur-Rehman and his backers to neutralize the Iranian foreign minister’s trip and create media hype over it.

Two years ago, another brouhaha erupted in Pakistani media on the eve of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s trip to the country. They said a spy attributed to Iran had been arrested. The issue overshadowed the president’s visit to Pakistan and kept the talks from producing the desired result.

A trip to Pakistan by a Wahhabi sheikh referred to as the acting Imam of Masjid al-Haram is very important for the scholars of the Muslim world because he, with his regular trips, injects the easily gained Saudi petrodollars into the pockets of this party in order to fund extremist groups such as the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Tehrik-i-Taliban.

Iran Air to Recruit Female Pilots for First Time

Fahimeh Ahmadi Dastjerdi, one of the few female pilots working in Iran

Farzaneh Sharafbafi, the female CEO of Iran Air (Homa), said the airline annually publishes a job vacancy advertisement to recruit new pilots.

The main feature of this year’s advertisement is the possibility for female pilots to apply, she added.

“This is highly significant for us to have female pilots among our personnel,” she was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by the Iranian Government’s website.

She went on to say that the number of female pilots in Iran is considerably high and added Iran Air will recruit new pilots including women within its administrative procedures.

Sharafbafi said at present five top managers of Iran Air are women. “Based on our official figures, about 1,780 women are working in Homa and nearly 4,000 others are involved in affiliated companies and air travel agencies.”

According to the CEO of Iran Air, 16 percent of the women working for Homa are among the middle-ranking officials.

“In the job vacancy advertisement, it has been announced that after passing certain exams, the applicants will undergo a 6 to 8-month training course to get familiar with the basic regulations of Iran Civil Aviation Organization and Iran Air.”

She noted that the selected applicants will then begin to work on a certain type of plane as co-pilots.

Sharbafi said one of the main criteria to measure a country’s development is the significance that it attaches to women.

“Today, the world is paying more serious attention to the role of women in the society. Women can play a key role in the social development as well as the realization of social justice in a society,” she concluded.

Photo Exhibition in Tehran Compares Nomadic Life in Iran, Italy

Mauro Vitale’s collection of photos entitled “People and Land of Wool” tries to narrate the differences in the lifestyle of nomads living in Iran and Italy.

The 60-year-old artist has photographed nomads of many countries, including Romania, India and Morocco, over the past 12 years.

In his photos, taken during four trips he made to Iran in recent years, Vitale shows the climate, culture and religion of the Iranian and Italian nomads.

The most interesting feature of the exhibit, which is underway in Iranian Artists Forum in Tehran, is that the photos depict the similarities and differences between the nomads of the two nations.

Vitale was the head of a photo project for D’Abruzzo magazine for five years. He collaborates with magazines and publishers at the national level.

He has published books and excursion guides that use photography to investigate nature, architecture, popular traditions and the manifestations of spirituality.

He is currently engaged in several transnational research projects on cultures that have not yet been massed.

What follows are photos of the exhibition retrieved from Honar Online news website, Tasnim news agency, and the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA):
