Also a top story was comments by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about a deal between Germany, France, and the UK to do business with Iran without using the US dollar in a bid to save the Iran nuclear deal.

Iran’s oil exports and its threat to close the Strait of Hormuz in case the US prevents Tehran’s customers from buying its crude oil also remained a top story today.

Afghan Immigrants Leaving Iran after Devaluation of Iranian Currency

It’s been a while that Afghan immigrants, after living in Iran for several years and decades, have decided to leave the country for other countries in the region amid the volatile economic situation in the Islamic Republic.

“The back-to-back economic shocks in Iran have forced the Afghan migrants in Iran to leave the country for other regional countries for a better work and life,” a report by Ghanoon daily newspaper said.

Nasirallah, who arrived in Iran alone six years ago for a better life, says “I’ve been working as a construction worker over the past two years and received my monthly wages regularly. But given the devaluation of the Iranian rial, it seems working in Iran is not economic anymore.”

Afghan Immigrants Leaving Iran after Devaluation of Iranian CurrencyIn an interview with Ghanoon, Nasirallah said he and other Afghan immigrants working in Iran sent their monthly wages to their families in Afghanistan but over the past months given the volatile economic situation in the Islamic Republic and its declining national currency, they can’t save money to send to their families.

“What’s the use of staying in Iran when we can’t even save money to send to our families? Each month, we receive IRR 10 million which is equal to 8,000 Afghanis. No one in Afghanistan can live with this amount of money for even a single month,” he said.

These days, most Afghan immigrants in Iran are leaving for Turkey and Dubai. Today, Istanbul has replaced Iran as the utopia of Afghan workers.

Afghan Immigrants Leaving Iran after Devaluation of Iranian CurrencyAref and two other Afghan immigrants who are leaving Iran for Turkey through the western borders pay IRR 60 million to a bus driver in Tehran to take them to Turkey. They don’t have passports. But by paying an extra IRR 2 million each to the driver, they are ensured that there would be no serious problem for entering Turkey.

In a bus terminal in southeastern Tehran, Afghans account for the majority of the passengers in the 10 to 15 buses leaving for Taybad in eastern Iran near Afghanistan border. “The wave of Afghans’ immigration from Iran gained momentum about 6 months ago. Most of them depart for Turkey and Dubai and many others return to their homeland.”

Abdollah says he has been in Iran since 1998. “Iran used to be a paradise for Afghan workers. But today the value of the country’s national currency is too low and it is not economic for us anymore to stay here. Most of our friends have already left for Turkey. We go to Turkey and may be to Europe.”

“Mr Rouhani! Don’t Let Europe Kill Time”

In a recent critical article, the Kayhan newspaper took a swipe at Rouhani for not pressuring Europe into adopting a straightforward and clear position on the JCPOA in a timely manner. The full text of the opinion piece follows.

The president says specific practical decisions in order to continue economic cooperation should be adopted according to schedule.

“European countries have the political will to continue economic cooperation based on the JCPOA, but this requires practical steps and the adoption of specific executive decisions, which should bear fruit at the set time,” said the president at a meeting on coordinating economic activities while referring to his negotiations with senior European officials in his recent trip to Europe.

It is noteworthy that President Rouhani described Europe’s proposed package as disappointing in his phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“Europe’s proposed package (to ensure Iran will stay in the JCPOA) is disappointing. Unfortunately, the proposed package does not offer any specific method and operational solution to continue cooperation, and only includes a series of general commitments similar to the EU’s previous statements,” said the president.

Given that US President Donald Trump withdrew from the JCPOA on May 8, 2018, the Europeans had two months to present a clear and practical package to lift the sanctions and counter the United States’ obstructionist moves, but in practice, they killed time for two months and handed over an empty package to Iran, which dismayed President Rouhani despite all his optimism.

It is noteworthy that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who was also a member of Iran’s negotiating team during the nuclear talks, stressed on June 22 that Europe had till the end of June (one week) to offer its proposed package to Iran.

What is more interesting is that state officials had earlier announced that the end of May was the deadline for Europe to present its package of guarantees. Now, almost 40 days have passed since then. Europe’s multiple time-killing comes at a time when the US government will impose some of the sanctions against Iran in less than a month.

Now, we should ask Rouhani these questions. Now that this trend has run its course and Rouhani himself has had a negative evaluation of Europe’s response, what does he exactly mean by “the deadline?” And, doesn’t extending the deadline given to Europe undermine the government’s firmness and seriousness in the eyes of the Europeans?

IRGC Releases Drone Footage Showing US’ Cooperation with ISIS

The video taken by a US drone includes footages of ISIS terrorists who are involved in planting mines in Iraq and Syria.

This means that the US has been fully aware in advance of the terrorists’ nasty operations in the two countries without making any efforts to stop them, a report by Khabar Online said.

Thousands of Iraqis and Syrians, mostly civilians have lost their lives or got wounded by the mines planted by the terrorists over the past years.

The video also includes an aerial footage of an area in Iraq in which most of the oil tankers used by ISIS to sell Iraq’s oil are camped. Interestingly enough, the US drone leaves the area after filming without even firing a single missile.

According to the experts, the US forces could simply cut the financial resources of ISIS and put an end to the terrorist group’s operations in Iraq and Syria by targeting the area.

The main question lingering in mind is that why on earth the US remained idle towards the terrorists’ operations in the two war-torn countries.

The IRGC had announced earlier that it had managed to penetrate into the US central commands in the region.

Last year, Commander of Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh said the IRGC had penetrated into the US central commands.

In a TV interview, the General said the IRGC had been monitoring the US central commands’ operations over the past years.

“If the top leadership of the Islamic Republic allows the IRGC, we will release some documents to shed further lights on the US scandalous moves in Iraq and Syria.”

He underlined that releasing the documents achieved by the IRGC on the US regional operations will turn into a major scandal for Washington.

Iran and its regional allies accuse the US of supporting ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The US rejected the accusations claiming it has been dealing ISIS a heavy blow.

The release of the new video comes three months after the senior Commander of the IRGC Quds Force provided the country’s Foreign Ministry with documents proving US collaboration with ISIS beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Major General Qassem Soleimani’s documents “contained precise information on the geographical position, time and exact details” of US collusion with the terrorists.

Iran Calls for Global Action on Climate Change

Bahram Qassemi

In a Monday statement, the spokesman expressed regret over the deaths of tens of people in Canada over the extreme heat and offered sympathy to the Canadian nation.

He urged all the countries and governments in the world to remain committed to their pledges in addressing the climate change phenomenon.

Qassemi said the issue of climate change and its dire consequences must be taken seriously as it takes the lives of thousands of people annually and leaves various species of animals and plants dead.

He said all the states and governments should fulfil their pledges to address the issue saying the phenomenon is threatening the future of the earth.

Qassemi also blasted the US government for pulling out of international treaties like the Paris Agreement and violating its international commitments.

He then urged all big industrial states to remain committed to their pledges in addressing the issue of climate change saying the states have a share in emitting the greenhouse gas and other pollutants and consequently contributing to the global warming and other natural disasters like droughts and dust storms across the world.

At least 54 people have died in the past six days over a heat wave that consumed southern Quebec and saw temperatures in the low to mid 30s for nearly a week.

US President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the Paris climate accord on June 1 last year leaving many worried whether the voluntary, non-binding, global deal to avoid catastrophic climate change could survive.

The Paris accord requires that every few years, there will be negotiations for more ambitious goals on reducing emissions. In the lead-up to the latest talks, the doubts of the long-term survival of the Paris accord are getting stronger. The agreement needs 55 countries putting out at least 55% of the world’s emissions. And with the US gone, it’s easy for Paris to fail if China were to pull out now.

Iran Offers Condolences on Death of Leading Italian Orientalist

In a Monday statement, Qassemi extended the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s sympathy with the family and students of the late Italian professor and the readers of his remarkable books as well as all orientalists across the world.

“Throughout his fruitful life, the late professor made considerable efforts to teach and promote the Persian language and literature and expand the Iranian culture in the world,” he said.

Professor Scarcia was born in 1933 in Rome. He dedicated many years of his life to studying and expanding Persian literature and culture. He was in full command of a number of languages including English, French, Russian, Greek and Azeri.

Scarcia wrote over 170 books and articles mostly on the history of Islam and Islamic culture. He taught Italian language in Tehran University from 1956 to 1957.

Iran Sympathizes with Turkey over Deadly Train Accident

In a Monday statement, Qassemi expressed sympathy with the Turkish government, nation and the families of the victims over the tragedy.

At last 24 people lost their lives in the train accident in Turkey. Turkish media quoted the health minister as saying that 124 people are still hospitalized.

The train was derailed on Sunday evening in the Tekirdag region while heading to the city of Istanbul. Reports say heavy rains caused the ground beneath the track to erode away, resulting in the derailment.

Iranian Referee Still Hopeful to Officiate FIFA World Cup Final

The Iranian referee Faghani and his assistants Mohammad-Reza Mansouri and Reza Sokhandan have already shined in the three important matches they officiated during the World Cup underway in Russia, i.e. Germany vs Mexico, Serbia vs Brazil, and France vs Argentina.

The three Iranian referees have fulfilled all expectations but the changes to the table of the remaining matches are decreasing their chance for judging the final match, a report by Al-Alam news website said.

Europeans view themselves as the owners of football in the world and now the last four teams entering the final stage are from Europe. This, according to Al-Alam, has given the Europeans the upper hand in choosing the referees of the final matches.

For the time being, 13 teams of referees have remained in the 2018 World Cup with only four matches left. Now, it’s up to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) to decide about the arrangements of the referee teams in the upcoming matches.

If Faghani is given a match in the semi-final stage in the coming days, it means his career in the 2018 World Cup will come to an end but in case he is not given a match, we will see him definitely judging one of the two final matches next week.

As the son of a referee, Faghani spent seven seasons in the Persian Gulf Pro League before making the jump to internationals.

Originally a player in the lower Iranian leagues, he became a referee and joined the FIFA-elite list just one year after making his top-flight debut.

In his career, the Iranian referee has officiated the finals of the 2014 AFC Champions League, 2015 AFC Asian Cup, 2015 Club World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.

Faghani was at the 2014 World Cup, but was named as a fourth official for the opener between Brazil and Croatia.

The young Iranian sportsmen tallied 130 points to be awarded the top team prize of the tournament in the Croatian capital city of Zagreb on Sunday night. They had snatched two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

They were followed by representatives from Russia, who notched up 108 points to claim the second spot.

Amirbek Sultonov from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan’s Din Mukhamed Koshkar shared the bronze medal.

In the 92-kilogram medal bout, Mohammad Ghorbanali Nosrati overcame Aleksei Mileshin from Russia.

Indian contestant Arshad Arshad and Kazakhstan’s Iskhar Kurbayev claimed the bronze medal.

In the 60-kilogram weight class, Iran’s Shahin Eidi Badaghi Mofrad failed to prevail over Serhat Kirik from Turkey and claimed a silver medal.

The bronze medal went to Azerbaijani athlete Adam Hajizada and French wrestler Gagik Mishai Snjoyan.

Iranian cadet wrestler Hossein Afrasiyab Ghasemi bagged a bronze medal in the 65-kilogram category.

Muslim Imadaev from Russia won the gold medal after defeating Armenian rival
Shant Khachatryan in the final contest.

Iran’s Mohammad Aziz Naghousi also got a bronze medal in the 80-kilogram section.

Karen Khachatryan from Armenia beat Georgian opponent Giorgi Tsopurashvili and received the gold medal.

The 2018 Cadet Wrestling World Championships started on July 2, and concluded on July 8, 2018.

President Hassan Rouhani later extended his congratulations on the Iranian weightlifters’ outstanding achievement at the world championships.

Rouhani, in a message released on Monday, felicitated the Iranian nation on the triumph, and praised the efforts made by the young Iranian weightlifters and their coaches to win the championship.

Iran Condoles with Vatican, Christians on Cardinal Tauran’s Death

Zarif offered his condolences in a Monday message to his counterpart in the Vatican, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

“News of the passing away of Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in the Roman Curia, filled me with sadness and sorrow,” Zarif said.

“This erudite man, who was regarded as one the Holy See’s renowned scientific and religious figures, made every effort to boost solidarity among followers of all divine faiths and promote dialogue among religions without any religious bias, nescience and extremism,” he added.

“He was one of the far-sighted men who, by holding bilateral and international meetings, managed to establish continuous dialogue among leaders of different faiths, especially Muslim and Christian scholars,” the Iranian top diplomat noted.

Zarif finally expressed condolences to Gallagher and all Catholic Christians as well as the Christian community in Iran on Cardinal Tauran’s demise, and asked God Almighty to bestow peace upon his soul.

Cardinal Tauran, a former foreign minister of the Vatican and expert in interfaith relations, died on Thursday at the age of 75. He was the one who announced the election of Pope Francis to the world in 2013 with the famous phrase “habemus papam (we have a pope)”.

He had been in the United States, seeking treatment for Parkinson’s disease. He had the condition for years, but continued his globe-trotting diplomacy to improve the Vatican’s relations with the Muslim world.

In an unusually personal condolence message sent to Tauran’s sister Friday, Francis praised the cardinal’s “courageous” years of service to the Catholic Church “despite the weight of illness.”
