How Do I Write an Essay about Myself?

This seems embarrassing to some and intimidating to others. Even the best writers struggle with some questions. How do you start to write about yourself? If you brag a little, will it sound narcissistic? If you complain a lot, will you annoy the reader? And of course, what should and shouldn’t you include in your writing about yourself?

All of these questions trouble even the best writer in the class. Writing about a different topic or others is much simpler than writing about oneself. This is why we’ve created this guide to help you.

Introduce Yourself

Autobiographical writing must be recognized as such from the very beginning. If you don’t introduce yourself in the essay, the reader won’t really know whose story that is. If you don’t do it from the start, they might not get the same experience as they would knowing that the story is about the author himself.

In most cases, an autobiographical essay at school is assigned for academic purposes like enrollment in a program. In such cases, it is even more important to introduce yourself.

This doesn’t apply just to your name. In fact, if it is an application, the name will stand in it, so you may even omit it. However, what you need to introduce is who you are, what interests you have, what are your skills and talents, what your background is, and why you’re writing the essay in the first place.

If this seems like too much at first, make a list. With a list in front of you, you can find a better way to organize all that data, as well as eliminate the irrelevant. Your goal is to create an appealing, custom essay, which is why you must make it interesting, unique, and clear.

Be Humble

Even if you are the most accomplished student there is, you can’t just go bragging about everything. Some bragging is fine and actually expected, but if you come across as a braggy person, you’ll use the interest of the reader.

The most appreciated autobiographical essays are written in a humble, down-to-earth tone. List all your accomplishments that are focus on the topic you’ve chosen, but remain impartial as if you are speaking of someone else.

Choose a Story that’s Memorable

Many students make the mistake of speaking too broadly about themselves. Readers will want you to be specific. As with any other type of paper, you’ll also have to select one topic and stick to it. It is tempting to present all your accomplishments when you write about yourself, but if something doesn’t fit the topic, don’t use it.

A personal essay can only be successful if it is memorable and interesting. Its goal is to introduce you and explore a theme. This is why you need to offer the reader specific, unique, and real-life details about yourself, some that the reader will remember long after.

How Do I Write an Essay about Myself? The most commonly used themes for these types of essays include:

  • Overcoming an obstacle
  • A spectacular accomplishment
  • A big failure
  • Something that taught you an important lesson

Avoid Clichés

To skip the hard part and avoid making a mistake, students tend to copy the ideas and work of other students. This is how clichés occur.

When you write your personal essay, remember that the reader has to go through more than just one. Usually much more. This means that they’ll read at least a dozen similar essays, so try to make yours as unique as you can. More details always help with this matter.

If you’re having troubles with this and can’t come up with a unique way to approach the essay, you might want to get some online help. This paper writing service is quite affordable and their site has many free samples you can look at for inspiration.

Limit the Timeline

An essay that sums up an entire life or a huge chunk of it cannot be a success. This is why you must focus the essay and, to do so, you should limit the timeline. Choose a single occasion or a short period that was significant to you. Ideally, you should choose a timeline of a couple hours to a few days, no more.

Final Thoughts

Many students are excellent writers, but when they have to write about themselves, they instantly struggle with the writer’s block. This is common and happens to everyone, but with a little effort and some experience, you can learn how to share your stories, feelings, and insights in a memorable and humble way.

IRGC Chief Says Iran’s Enemies Retreating

Major General Hossein Salami (1)

“The enemy must continue to retreat as long as Iran’s legitimate demands are not recognized,” Major General Hossein Salami said in the southwestern city of Ahvaz on Thursday.

The same enemy that once claimed it would not let the export of “a single drop of Iranian oil” has now backed off in the wake of a failure, the top commander noted.

He also warned the foreign enemies against a harsh response to the attempts to taint Iran’s dignity, warning the “old hyena of colonialism” -the UK- that if it dares to defy the Iranian nation, the Islamic Republic’s naval forces will “take its ship out of four American and British warships” and bring it to the coast.

The IRGC captured British oil tanker “Stena Impero” at the Strait of Hormuz on July 19 for violating the international maritime law, saying even a Royal Navy’s frigate escorting the tanker failed to prevent the Iranian commandos from carrying the mission.

A letter to the UN Security Council said the UK oil tanker has had a crash with an Iranian fishing vessel at the Strait of Hormuz on July 19 and caused damages to the Iranian boat in a way that a number of its crew and fishermen are in a critical condition in hospital.

The British oil tanker ignored warnings from Iran after the accident, switched off its navigation systems, made a dangerous maneuver, and began to sail into the wrong way to flee the area before it was captured by the Iranian naval forces.

The IRGC says an escorting frigate from the UK Royal Navy stepped in as two helicopters scrambled to prevent the IRGC Navy’s commandos from carrying their mission.

Informed sources have said the UK oil tanker was also polluting the Persian Gulf water heavily by dumping crude oil residue.

MP: Saudis, Emiratis Avoiding Friction with Iran

In remarks on Thursday, member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahatpishe said the US has exhausted all possibilities in imposing sanctions on Iran and has become thoroughly confused about responding to the Islamic Republic.

The US foreign policy entails an escalation of hostility between Iran and its neighbors, the MP noted, adding, however, that the US strategy for creating a regional coalition against Iran has received a negative reaction.

“We saw in the region that even Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are concerned about an attrition crisis, so they gave Iran the green light and have refrained from entering new challenges against Iran in the recent months,” Falahatpishe stated.

While the US has become internationally isolated, the UK fell into the trap of following Washington’s failed policies because of its traditional ties with the US, committed an act of piracy, and is now looking for a way out of the crisis, he noted.

On July 19, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy captured British oil tanker “Stena Impero” for violating international maritime laws when crossing the high-traffic Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.

The UK vessel had switched off its GPS locator, in contravention of international regulations, and was sailing into the Strait of Hormuz in a wrong traffic pattern.

Iran’s legal action against the British oil tanker came after the British Royal Marines seized Iran’s oil tanker Grace 1 in Gibraltar on July 4 for trying to take oil to Syria allegedly in violation of EU sanctions.

Tehran has made it clear that the supertanker was not bound for Syria and its seizure has taken place at the behest of the US.

Iran Condoles Tunisia on President’s Death

In a message to his Tunisian counterpart Khamis al-Jahnawi on Thursday, Zarif said he was saddened by the news of death of Essebsi, “who was elected president in a free election by the great Tunisian nation.”

“I offer my condolences to his family and to the friend and brother nation and government of Republic of Tunisia, pray God to have mercy on the deceased’s soul, and emphasize that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands and sympathizes with the Republic of Tunisia’s government and nation,” the top Iranian diplomat added.

Known as one of the world’s oldest leaders, Essebsi died at the age of 92 at the Tunis military hospital on Thursday morning.

The late president was hospitalized with a severe illness in late June, but returned to intensive care on Thursday.

Drafted in as prime minister in 2011 after longtime ruler Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was toppled, Essebsi was elected president three years later, becoming the country’s first directly elected head of state after the Islamic Awakening movement.

Iran, Senegal Discuss Economic Ties, Regional Issues

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Senegal’s capital Dakar on Thursday morning after a tour of Americas that took him to New York for a UN meeting and later to Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia.

During the one-day stay in Dakar, Zarif held a meeting with his Senegalese counterpart Amadou Ba.

In the meeting, the ministers discussed the ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the trade fields, energy and power plant industry, automotive industry, and nanotechnology.

Zarif and Ba also stressed the need for holding a session of Iran-Senegal joint economic commission, for promoting cooperation in the international organizations, particularly in the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, for Islamic world’s unity, supporting Palestine and restoration of the Palestinians’ rights, as well as the need for stability and security in the region and de-escalation of tensions.

Tehran Hosting ‘Four Corners of Imagination’ Sculpture Exhibition

It is the largest and most inclusive exhibition of the Iranian Sculptor’s Association. The exhibition features 182 works by 160 artists.

As in previous years, the works selected by artists have been put on display at the exhibition and there is no jury.

Based on a call by the association, members were asked to display three of their most recent works.

The theme of the exhibition is free and the artist is able to display his own personal ideas. This will make a good and professional look at the sculpture industry in Iran.

What is remarkable in this edition is the social concerns expressed by the artists in their works.

The “Four Corners of Imagination” runs through August 26 in the gallery of Iranian Artists Forum.

Iranian Farmers Start Growing Quinoa

Director of the Centre for Herbal Medicines at Golestan University of Medical Sciences said growing Quinoa has been fully mechanised in the province since March last year, and its harvest began recently using combine harvesters.

Mostafa Hamidi in an interview with ISNA said this year, two hectares of farms in Gorgan and Kordkuy cities are cultivating Quinoa.

Hamidi went on to say that Quinoa is an organic bioactive vegetable and is considered a kind of semi-grain. This plant is the main source of protein, iron and fibre and its protein is twice as rice.

The plant is native to Peru, Chile and Bolivia, he said, adding that Quinoa is used in South and North America as a major dish. The FAO has compared its nutritional value with powdered milk.

Stressing that Quinoa is known as the vegetarian caviar in the world, he maintained the plant is used to enrich flour, pasta and biscuits. “Quinoa can replace many foods because of its high nutritional value.”

“This plant tolerates high salinity and dryness.

Quinoa has the ability to be raised in arid lands and therefore can be grown in the northern lands of the province.”

“The amount of water needed for Quinoa cultivation is one-fourth in comparison with that of rice,” Hamidi said, saying that the plant needs little water.

“Patients with celiac disease who are suffering from gastrointestinal problems can replace wheat with Quinoa. Its cultivation in the country has started in recent years, and by informing people about the benefits of using this plant, its market can be boosted, and it will provide a good incentive to grow this plant, especially in salt lands, “ concluded Hamidi.

In addition to Golestan province, Iranian agriculture officials say the cultivation of Quinoa has been successful in the southern province of Kerman, despite the fact that it is an arid region.

What’s Purpose of Iraqi PM’s Recent Short Visit to Iran?

The trip was more significant than a formal visit to Iran by the top official of a neighboring country, because it came at a time of specific regional and internal situation facing both Iraq and Iran.

The most likely reasons behind the visit could be discusses in several dimensions:

Internal Aspect: Growing Crises in Social Services

The political situation in recent months has not been suitable for Abdul-Mahdi. Although the Iraqi government has emerged quite successful with initiatives in the foreign policy arena, it faces many problems inside, as there is still no tangible change in the quality of social services nearly a year after formation of the cabinet and several months after its completion.

The circumstances are so unfavorable that a formal opposition has been shaped in Iraq, and people have poured into the streets several times in an act of protest. Even the religious authorities have warned against the continuation of such trend.

In a recent interview with AFP, former Iraqi prime minster Haider al-Abadi touched on the current circumstances in Iraq, voicing readiness to return to power by saying that he has good intentions to do so.

Bilateral Ties

Abdul-Mahdi was accompanied by the ministers of oil, finance, transportation, defense, and by the national security advisor in the visit to Iran.

The arrangement of his delegation reveals that the economic and security issues were high on the agenda in the trip, and the visit should be considered within that framework.

From the economic viewpoint, the anti-Iran sanctions have had considerable impacts on Iraq. The Iraqi officials have repeatedly voiced opposition to the US’ unilateral sanctions against Iran, arguing that there is no replacement for the import of energy from Iran, particularly in the hot season when Iraq’s demand for gas and power is much higher, in such a way that the supply of energy is directly related to Iraq’s national security.

There are popular protests against the blackouts and shortage of water in Iraq in the summertime every year. The city of Basra had tumultuous weeks last year.

The situation became so tough for Baghdad that Washington had to exempt Iraq from the sanctions for a period of time.

On the other hand, the oil exchanges between the two countries are of special significance even in the current situation. The two countries maintain relations in this area, and the ties are such close that have angered the US. The US secretary of treasury is said to have travelled to Iraq recently to warn the Iraqis about these ties. However, it is not clear how seriously Baghdad has taken the warning.

The two countries are also conducting banking and financial transactions. Maybe the Iraqi finance minister was in the delegation to facilitate this section.

Regional Aspect: A Bridge Between Iran, Arab World

A number of political experts believe that Abdul-Mahdi’s visit to Iran in the current circumstances was related to the regional developments, in which Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have each suffered losses from the foreign policies they have been adopting in recent years, and are rectifying them.

An example is the gradual withdrawal of Emirati forces from Yemen and a change in the blatant, hostile stances against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was obvious in the attack on four oil tankers in the Port of Fujairah. The UAE did not name any specific country in its report to the United Nations Security Council, and preferred to remain silent on the subject.

In the meantime, Iraq, which is known as a bridge between Iran and the Arab world, can take a role and prepare the ground for a change in the region’s current situation.

Iraq has got such potential, and could convene meetings on the issue in Baghdad, which would be welcomed by Iran, according to the Supreme National Security Council.

International Aspect: JCPOA and Tanker War

As regards the international aspect, tensions have arisen in the region between Iran and two other countries, the US and the UK, over the JCPOA and the issue of oil tankers.

Trump, who created a new global crisis by withdrawing from the JCPOA, does not sill accept the fact that this issue would not be resolved with sanctions and pressures, and that he must return to the negotiation table by lifting the sanctions.

Moreover, the efforts in this regard made by some countries like Iraq, Japan, France and Oman have not yielded results so far.

But the conditions are somehow different in the standoff with the UK, since the tension with Britain could be settled rapidly and through diplomatic channels with the release of the Iranian oil tanker that has been seized in Gibraltar.

It appears that the UK authorities, who are also grappling with the internal crisis of Brexit, are willing to resolve the tension with Iran in an honorable manner.

The telephone conversations between Adil Abdul-Mahdi and the UK defense secretary just hours before visiting Iran could be described as part of the British willingness to address the issue, though no details of the telephone conversation has been made public.

Another notable subject in this regard will be Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi’s visit to Iran next week. He is trying to have the regional and international crises resolved diplomatically.

Speaking about his trip to Iran at a press conference last night, the Iraqi prime minister said he has discussed the subject of the captured oil tankers in the meeting with Hassan Rouhani and has emphasized the necessity to relieve the tensions.

He also noted that Iraq will have a significant role in de-escalation of tensions, and will be friends with everyone.

No matter which files Abdul-Mahdi had brought to Iran, one could say that he will receive a welcome from Tehran and face Iran’s help in addressing them.
