Iran FM in Bolivia for High-Level Talks

Upon arrival at the airport, Zarif was welcomed by Bolivia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Carmen Almendras.

During his stay, the Iranian foreign minister will meet with Bolivia’s President Evo Morales and Foreign Minister Diego Pary as well as other senior officials.

Zarif will pursue issues related to bilateral ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and hold talks on the latest regional and international developments.

The Iranian foreign minister earlier visited Nicaragua and Venezuela after a visit to the United States, where he attended an annual meeting of the United Nations.

Iranian Drones Monitoring All US Vessels in Persian Gulf: Commander

Commander of the Army’s naval division, Vice Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, said Iranian drones keep monitoring American ships as long as they are plying across the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

He said the monitoring is done in full compliance with international regulations.

The admiral noted drones provide up-to-date images of US vessels on a daily basis. The top commander further said Iran is in possession of long-range and intercontinental unmanned aerial vehicles, which will be used if need be.

He underlined that security in the region should be ensured by regional countries, and that the presence of foreign troops in the region will only fuel insecurity there.

The commander said the presence of US troops in the Persian Gulf region, which is around 32,000 kilometres away from their country, is pointless.

He said the US only aims to threaten powerful regional countries in order to prevent the formation of regional alliances.

He also noted that selling weapons to regional countries and stockpiling arms in the region will only waste the resources of regional nations.

The top commander stressed to need for collective cooperation among regional countries in order to ensure collective security.

Neshat Jahandari Becomes Second Woman Airline Pilot of Iran

Jahandari is 29 years old. For the past four years, she has been working as a co-pilot for the Zagros Airlines. She has flown for 3,000 hours till now.

She began to work with the Zagros Airlines in the field of flight safety and the review of Flight Data Monitoring. About three and a half years later, the company needed a pilot; she passed the test and was accepted with merit.

Neshat Jahandari Becomes Second Woman Airline Pilot of IranAt the age of 17, she began her pilot training classes, and at the same time studied at the University. She received her degree in Aviation Flight Engineering Technology.

Due to her interest in this field, after receiving her licence, she received all the flight-related documents for the airliners, such as the Commercial Pilot License and the Instrument Rating. Finally, her dream came true and she became a pilot.

Although, there is no legal prohibition for women in the aviation field, entering into the profession has not been so easy for a woman.

“When I entered the pilot school, many were surprised and said this is a male profession and is not suitable for me,” she says.

“This strange behaviour could be a hindrance to me, but I believed in it and I was doing my job. I believe that everyone who does his/her best in every field, will certainly enjoy its result. In today’s world, as we have male professional chefs, we also have successful female mechanics engineers. Success has nothing to do with gender. Of course, it’s natural to be surprised to see a female pilot,” she noted.

Iran Has Long Protected Maritime Security in Region: Rouhani

Rouhani made the remarks during a meeting with a ranking Iraqi delegation headed by Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi in Tehran on Monday, IRNA reported.

“Over the course of history, Iran has been and will continue to be the most principal preserver of security and shipping freedom in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, and Sea of Oman,” the Iranian chief executive said.

The Islamic Republic, he added, would never act as the party to start any warfare or tension with other countries.

The Iraqi premier, meanwhile, pointed to existence of some plots aimed increasing regional tensions.

The comments came following multiple shipping incidents in the regional waters, which saw multiple explosions on board many vessels.

The United States and some of its Western and regional allies have been uselessly trying to blame the Islamic Republic for the incidents, saying Tehran has been trying to retaliate for Washington’s efforts at preventing Iranian oil sales throughout the world.

The US has been trying to reduce Iran’s oil revenues to “zero” after leaving a nuclear accord with the Islamic Republic and others and returning the sanctions that the agreement had lifted.

Iran has roundly rejected any part in the incidents, reminding the significance of regional maritime security to international trade.

It has insisted that it would sell its crude despite the American bans, but has invariably spurned using violence towards the purpose.

Abdul-Mahdi then asserted, “Iraq has never played and will never play any role in enforcement of sanctions against Iran.” Baghdad’s insistence on keeping up its trade with Tehran despite the US’s sanctions has forced Washington to issue it several waivers.

Bilateral ties

Rouhani hailed implementation over the recent years of “effective steps” in expansion of the countries’ relations, noting, “This trend will surely continue.”

Enhancement of the countries’ cooperation and relations “will definitely have a [positive] effect in expansion and enhancement of stability and security in the region,” he added, and laid emphasis on the importance of dialog in resolution of regional predicaments.

Abdul-Mahdi, for his part, called the feeling of fraternity and amity between the countries “reciprocal.” He also reminded that the countries’ security was integrated and that both had to invest in efforts aimed at guarding their shared border.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mousavi condemned violence and the use of force against demonstrators taking part in Monday protest rallies.

He touched upon the worsening health condition of detained Muslim leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, and said it has been more than two months since the medical team reported Zakzaky and his wife needed immediate medical treatment abroad.

“Nigerian authorities are expected to immediately get Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky out of the detention centre and provide him with access to proper medical services,” the spokesman said.

Highlighting the need for preserving security and stability and restoring peace in Nigeria, Mousavi appealed for calm by both sides, and urged Nigerian officials to exercise restraint.

He further called on authorities to speed up the trend of Zakzaky’s treatment and ease worries about his deteriorating health condition. He also called for a negotiated settlement of existing problems.

Abuja as well as several other cities around the world has, in recent days witnessed protest rallies where demonstrators called for the release of the Muslim cleric.

Demonstrations in Abuja turned ugly on Monday as security forces used violence against protesters.

Meanwhile there have been growing concerns over Zakzaky’s frail health.

Recently, a lawyer for the imprisoned cleric warned that his client’s health was in critical condition and that he might die if he was not released very soon.

The warning came after a Nigerian court ordered to extend Zakzaky’s detention for another eleven days. Zakzaky’s legal team says the cleric suffered a stroke last week and has got no sleep for seven days. The hearing will now be adjourned until July 29th.

Meanwhile, a group of 50 activists wrote a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, demanding Nigeria’s religious leader be allowed to leave the country for urgent medical treatment. Zakzaky has been in prison since 2015.

Iran, Nicaragua Slam US Sanctions on Independent Nations

In a Monday meeting with Ortega, Zarif once again berated Washington for imposing sanctions on countries.

“Contrary to all laws, regulations and resolutions, the US government commits economic terrorism against independent nations,” said the top Iranian diplomat.

Zarif then underlined Iran and Nicaragua can forge cooperation in a whole range of areas, namely trade, industry, energy, agriculture, financial domains, etc., stressing Tehran’s determination to enhance mutual ties on all fronts.

The Nicaraguan president, in turn, said his country never accepts the concept of US sanctions as they are not in accordance with international law.

“Washington’s sanctions on the Iranian and Nicaraguan nations are unilateral and illegal,” he said.

Ortega underscored that everybody is dismayed at the situation created by the US in the world, but some do not express it.

“The White House insults the whole world, even its own allies, using the means of blackmail and violating international trade regulations,” he said, adding that such behaviour will boomerang on the US.

Nicaragua Urges Unity among Countries under US Sanctions

President of Nicaragua’s National Assembly Gustavo Porras Cortés has also called on all countries in the world suffering from the US sanctions to unite against Washington’s unilateralism.

Speaking in a Monday meeting with Zarif, the Nicaraguan official said there is no doubt about the unity of all countries suffering from the US’ pressure and economic terrorism.

“The anti-arrogance front is faced with the media propaganda and economic war of the US and its allies, and that necessitates our unity,” he added.

Zarif, in turn, conveyed the warm greetings of Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani to the Nicaraguan official, inviting Porras Cortés to visit Iran on behalf of the Iranian top lawmaker.

The Iranian foreign minister touched upon various areas of cooperation between the two countries, saying Tehran is ready to further enhance and deepen its relations with Managua on all fronts, especially in the domain of economy.

Zarif also referred to the 40th anniversary of the victory of revolutions of both countries, and said, “The Americans didn’t like to see even the first anniversaries of these two revolutions, but the two countries are now witnessing the 40th anniversaries [of the triumph] of their revolutions, and we will disappoint them for the next forty years as well.”

The Monday meeting was also attended by members of the Parliament’s Presiding Board as well as members of the Iran-Nicaragua Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Zarif earlier held talks with a number of Nicaraguan ministers and senior government officials in Managua.

The Monday talks were attended by the Nicaraguan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Industry, Development and Commerce, Minister of Finance and Public Credit, President of the Central Bank of Nicaragua, President of the Trade Development Centre, and the chairman of the Sandinistas’ faction at the Nicaraguan National Assembly.

During the meeting, the two sides explored avenues for developing and enhancing Tehran-Managua relations, especially in the economic field.

The high-level meeting also resulted in an agreement on preparing a roadmap for economic, trade, financial, and industrial cooperation between the two sides and with regional countries.

Iran’s Araqchi to Deliver Rouhani’s Message to Macron in Paris

Araqchi is visiting the French capital as the special representative of President Rouhani, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi in a Monday tweet.

The visit comes a few days after a phone conversation between Rouhani and Macron, during which the former underlined the importance of Paris’ endeavours in ensuring the existence of the Iran nuclear deal or JCPOA.

Rouhani told Macron that Iran and the European signatories to the JCPOA need to invest in efforts aimed at implementation of “balanced steps” that could safeguard the deal because “there are some in the United States, who would not want the efforts seeking to save the JCPOA to succeed.”

He said that despite existing setbacks and sabotage activities, Tehran believed that the remaining signatories had to seize the time and task their experts with finding creative and appropriate approaches that save the agreement.

“Europe must expedite its attempts to meet Iran’s legitimate [economic] interests [under the deal] and bring about truce in the US economic warfare,” the Iranian president stated.

France was the first country to contact the Islamic Republic following Tehran’s May 8 decision to reduce some of its JCPOA commitments in reaction to the US withdrawal from the deal and Europe’s failure to live up to its commitments under the deal.

There were talks of a plan shared with Iran by President Macron, known as “freeze for freeze”, based on which Iran would stop its nuclear decision and the US would lift its nuclear-related sanctions against Iran. However, Iranian officials did not explicitly confirm receiving such an offer.

US ‘Maximum Pressure’ Results in Iran’s ‘Maximum Resistance’: Araqchi

Mark Dubowitz’s Delight over Coronavirus in Iran ‘Shameful’: Araqchi

Araqchi made the remarks in a meeting with Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy chairman of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), and his entourage in Tehran.

“This policy is another miscalculation by the US which has resulted in the Iranian people’s ‘maximum resistance’ policy.”

“The US will definitely achieve nothing through this policy,” Araqchi added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he stressed that supporting Palestine is an inseparable part of the Islamic Revolution, and Iran will continue to back Palestine and counter the illegitimate goals pursued by the US and the Zionist regime in the region.

“The American ‘Deal of the Century’ initiative, which has been proposed with the aim of ending the issue of Palestine, stems from the miscalculation of the US and the Zionist regime, and is doomed to failure because of the integrated resistance of the Palestinian people and the axis of resistance,” Araqchi noted.

In turn, the Hamas official appreciated Iran’s stances in support of Palestine, and underlined the movement’s solidarity with the Islamic Republic against the hostile acts of the US and the Zionist regime.

Presenting a report on the latest developments of Palestine, Al-Arouri pointed to the so-called ‘Deal of the Century’ and it pursues three major issues: the fate of the Holy Quds, the Palestinian refugees, and the siege of Gaza Strip.

The Hamas official said the Zionist-American initiative is aimed at providing maximum benefits for the occupying regime and creating new regional arrangements focused on the regime.

Al-Arouri also underlined the necessity of countering the dangerous initiative, and called for the Islamic countries’ joint effort to liberate Palestine and return refugees.

JCPOA Joint Commission to Convene in Vienna on July 28

Iran’s Visa Issuance Rules Designed to Speed up Travel Procedure: Spokesman

In a statement on Monday, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi provided a description of the next meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission.

“Following the previous meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission on June 28, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s new policy of halting the implementation of certain commitments yielded obvious and practical results, and the European sides requested that such new conditions are discussed in a Joint Commission meeting at the level of deputies before the meeting of foreign ministers,” he said.

“On the other hand, and in the meantime, the Islamic Republic of Iran has also announced a series of new cases of non-implementation of the JCPOA commitments by the other parties in regard to the efficacy of the removal of sanctions, in a letter signed by Dr. Zarif to Ms. Mogherini and the other JCPOA members,” Mousavi added.

“As a result, the JCPOA parties believe that it would be appropriate for the deputies and the political directors to discuss these issues as well before the meeting of foreign ministers. Accordingly, it was agreed to convene an extraordinary meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission in Vienna on July 28,” he noted.

“After all, this meeting will be no substitute for the next meeting of the foreign ministers, and is rather scheduled to provide an opportunity for putting forward the subjects and making better arrangements for the ministerial meeting,” the spokesman concluded.

The previous meeting of the Joint Commission of the JCPOA was held at the level of deputy-ministerial and political directors in Vienna on June 28.

The Joint Commission is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

Iran Sends Condolences after IAEA Chief Dies

Amano-1

In a statement on Monday, the Foreign Ministry voiced sadness over the death of Yukiya Amano, who has died at age 72.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran expresses deep sadness over the passing away of Mr. Yukiya Amano, the late director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, lauds his professional activities, and extends sympathy with the Japanese government and nation, and with his family and colleagues. By pursuing the subjects and issues about disarmament professionally and impartially during his tenure in the IAEA, Mr. Amano played a prominent and influential role in helping the promotion of international peace and security,” said the statement.

Amano, the Japanese diplomat who led the UN nuclear agency for a decade, died on July 18. But his family had only informed the IAEA late on Sunday, “with the specific request not to disclose it until the family funeral had taken place on 22 July in a quiet atmosphere”.

Amano had wide experience in disarmament, non-proliferation diplomacy and nuclear energy.

Amano was expected to announce his decision to step down due to an illness that had visibly weakened him over the past year. His third term had originally been due to expire in November 2021.
