Iran’s Leader Says US Accused of Creating Coronavirus

Addressing the Iranian nation on television on Sunday, Ayatollah Khamenei said the US claims it would help Iran if the Islamic Republic asks for it.

First, he said, the US itself is short of resources in its own fight against the coronavirus, and if it could, it would have helped itself.

Second, the Leader noted, Americans are accused of developing the virus.

“I don’t know how true it is. But when there’s such an allegation, can a wise man trust you? You could be giving medicines that spread the virus or cause it to remain. Experience shows you can’t be trusted and you do such things,” the Leader added.

Ayatollah Khamenei said there is word that a strain of the virus has specifically been produced to target Iran using Iranian genetic specifications.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader denounced the United States as the most wicked enemy of Iran. He said American officials are “terrorists, liars and charlatans,” urging Iranians to put up a stiff resistance against Washington.

Iran to Mass Produce Chinese Corona Drug: Official

Ali Razazan, who is in charge of the distribution of corona drugs at Iran’s Food and Drug Administration, said an antiviral drug, manufactured and consumed in China, has been successful in treating COVID-19 patients, but we cannot announce its name yet.

He told IRNA the raw materials have arrived in the country and are currently in customs process. He added that the medicine can be mass-produced in the country within two days.
“It is a standalone antiviral drug developed and tested in China that can be used in combination with other antiviral drugs in the treatment of people with COVID-19,” stressed Razazan.

As in China, this drug may work on our patients, he said, reiterating that various drugs are now used to treat COVID-19 patients.

“Any decision on mass production of the new drug depends on the decisions of the Corona Scientific Committee. The committee may decide whether the new antiviral drug be produced independently or in combination with other drugs.”

The Scientific Committee on Drugs and Treatment of the Corona Task Force in Iran is one of the strongest committees in the world, with many countries using its findings, noted this health official.

“The coronavirus is a wild virus. It has not been tested in Iran before and no one knows what medications work in containing it. The goal of the Health Ministry is not simply to contain the virus but to eradicate it,” he underscored.

In Iran, the death toll reached over 1500. On Saturday, the country reported the first slowdown in the number of deaths since March 9.

The total number of confirmed cases in Iran has passed 20,000, Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpur said in a statement on TV.

Send Its Receipt to Pompeo If You Could Pay for Single Mask Destined for Iran: Foreign Ministry

In a post on his Twitter account on Saturday, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Abbas Mousavi asked the Iranian people in America to send the US State Department whatever documents proving a successful banking transaction for the purchase of a simple over-the-counter drug or a single face mask destined for Iran.

“Dear Iranians and Americans! Just a friendly reminder: If you are able to conduct a simple banking transaction from your home, company or the nearest bank office in your whereabouts to purchase a pack of Advil pills, one kilo of lentil or one mask for your relatives inside Iran, send its documents to the US State Department,” Mousavi said.

His message came after the US State Department claimed in a post in the Persian language that food, medicine and humanitarian supplies are exempt from the anti-Iranian sanctions.

In remarks earlier in March, Mousavi said the so-called humanitarian channel launched by the Swiss government in December 2019 has been faced with the US sabotage, and Iran is not given the permission to transfer its resources to the channel.

The Iranian engineer had been arrested at the airport of Nice at the request of the US Department of Justice. In May 2019, a French court approved the extradition of Rouhollahnejad to the US to face charges of attempting to illegally import US technology for military purposes.

Moreover, the French Supreme Court had upheld the first court’s ruling on the Iranian engineer’s extradition to the US. But he was finally released on March 20, the first day of the new Persian year, after more than a year behind bars in France.

In exchange for his freedom, Iran has released Roland Gabriel Marchal, who had been sentenced to five years in prison for acting against national security.

Things Looked Different in Iranian President’s New Year Speech

In was the first time that an Iranian president made a Nowruz speech while standing. Moreover, the president’s surroundings did not include Haft-Seen, a quintessential component of Nowruz traditions.

Apart from President Rouhani’s verbal emphasis on the need for unity and rapport in the battle with the coronavirus, his body language and the different scene of his speech, with a background of trees covered in blossom, had messages.

The president was standing up at the end of a tough year and at the beginning of another difficult Persian year. He was in fact expressing his administration’s serious determination to stand against the problems and calling on people to stand by the administration firmly.

President Rouhani’s refusal to allow the organizers to set Haft-Seen in front of the camera also reflects his solidarity with the Iranian people whose businesses have been affected by COVID-19 epidemic and who have been unable to celebrate this year’s Nowruz like the past.

The president has given people an indirect message that he is feeling their pains and his administration will be doing its utmost to handle the situation and overcome the coronavirus crisis with fortitude, Borna reported.
