Iran Says Payment Problem for Buying COVID-19 Vaccine Resolved

Abdolnaser Hemmati said Thursday the payment could be made to purchase the virus from abroad now.

“In one of my previous posts, I stressed that US sanctions and the necessity of winning the approval of OFAC (the Office of Foreign Assets Control – which is a financial intelligence and enforcement agency of the US Treasury Department) had delayed and impeded the procurement of the coronavirus vaccine from COVAX (a global initiative aimed at working with vaccine manufacturers to provide countries worldwide equitable access to safe and effective vaccines),” he said.

“This morning, we received initial agreement to transfer money from an account in a bank (other than the assets of the Central Bank of Iran in South Korea), and accordingly, we issued an order to make the payment,” he added.

“And we keep following up on the issue,” the official added.
“In this phase, the Central Bank of Iran has earmarked €200 million for the purchase of the COVID-19 vaccine. If need be, we will provide more finances,” he said.

The central bank governor noted the necessary arrangements have been made with the health ministry in that regard.

“Our dear people should rest assured that the coronavirus vaccine will be purchased and brought in as soon as possible,” Hemmati said.

He underlined that the central bank will also appropriate the required funds to equip the domestic production line for the coronavirus vaccine.

“In addition to allocating foreign currency for buying the coronavirus vaccine, we are also lending the necessary support and logistics in terms of providing forex to procure the equipment needed for the domestic production line for the vaccine, and we have prioritized this issue,” he said.

Iran Categorically Denies Allegations Made by Trump, CENTCOM

In a Thursday statement, Khatibzadeh said, “Such rehashed, baseless and fabricated accusations and remarks can be assessed as part of the conventional blames games of the White House aimed at eclipsing the dire situation that Trump is in.”

“As it has been announced time and again, attacking diplomatic and residential areas is rejected, and in this particular case, the finger is pointed at the US itself as well as its partners and allies in the region, which seek to escalate tensions and provoke fresh sedition in the region,” he said, denying the allegations made by Trump and the CENTCOM.

“As we have already said, Iran responds to the United States’ terrorism overtly, bravely and at a proportionate level; so, the US regime had better resort to more believable scenarios in order to justify its sedition-provoking moves,” he said.

Khatibzadeh seriously warned the US president and advised him to avoid creating tensions and dangerous adventurism in his last days in office.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the US government responsible for the consequences and repercussions of any unwise move under the current circumstances,” he said.

Trump’s Fate Won’t Be Better than Saddam’s: Iran President

President Rouhani on Wednesday referred to Saddam Hussein and Trump as the two lunatics in history who imposed wars on Iran.

“The reality is that we had two lunatics in history both of whom imposed a war on our nation. One lunatic in this region was Saddam [Hussein, the former Iraqi strongman,] who imposed a war on our people (the eight-year war in the 1980s), and the other lunatic was Trump, who imposed another war on our people,” said the president.

“Saddam Hussein imposed a military war on us, and Trump imposed an economic war on our people. We won the military war by joining hands, sticking together, remaining united and having one voice, and, thank God, we defeated Iraq,” President Rouhani said.

“The day when that lunatic (Saddam Hussein) was hanged was when people saw their final victory in history. Trump’s destiny will not be better than Saddam Hussein’s. We saw how our people, through resistance, defeated those who were proudly seeking to bring our people to their knees,” he said.

He further noted that Iranian people are feeling the pressure of sanctions in their day-to-day lives.
“The government is trying its best to cushion the effects of the economic war on the one hand, and to have cruel sanctions lifted on the other,” he said.

“The sanctions are putting pressure on our people, who are feeling the pinch every day and even every hour. Every day, people wake up to feel the pinch,” the president noted.

President Rouhani further blamed certain elements in the US for the imposition of sanctions.

“The day we manage to break these sanctions, it means we have defeated Zionism, reactionary entities and radicals. The reason is that sanctions are the handiwork of Zionism as well as reactionary and radical elements in the United States. And we must defeat them,” he said.

“The sooner we get the better of Zionists, the happier we will be,” he noted.

President Rouhani lambasted those who talk of delaying attempts to have sanctions lifted.

“Sanctions have put pressure on people and affected their lives. Those urging the government not to rush to get sanctions lifted must be well-off [and not feeling the pinch],” he argued.

 

No Traces of Mutated Coronavirus Found in Iran Yet: Health Minister

“The passengers who have entered Iran over the past two or three weeks are also being monitored, and so far we have, fortunately, found no traces of the mutated virus identified in England,” the minister said Wednesday.

Namaki said Iran keeps monitoring inbound patients.

He noted when England announced it had identified a new strain of coronavirus in the country, the Islamic Republic adopted measures to protect people’s lives and stem the spread of the disease.

He noted Tehran immediately suspended flights from Iran to the UK and vice versa.

“Passengers coming in from England via other airlines are monitored, too,” he noted.

The minister said all inbound passengers from Europe will be tested here in Tehran even if they already hold certificates showing they have tested negative for COVID-19.

The passengers are also advised to remain in quarantine for two weeks, he added.

Iran President Congratulates Christians on Jesus Christ Birthday

“The auspicious birthday of the great divine prophet, Jesus Christ, is around the corner. It is an auspicious occasion for all followers of this great prophet and all our Christian fellow countrymen,” President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday.

“Of course, I’d like to congratulate all humanity on the fact that Jesus Christ was a prophet of peace, friendship and kindness,” added the president.
“Wherever Jesus Christ was present, he was a source of blessing for that region and its people.

Today, we are pleased to see that great prophet is still influential in the minds and lives of a large part of the human community,” he added.

President Rouhani noted that Jesus Christ has left a noticeable footprint on mankind.
“Human communities owe a major part of their morality to divine prophets, including Jesus Christ.

The existence and birth of this prophet was a miracle, and his whole life was a miracle, too,” said the president.

“Wherever he went, he divinely healed ill people. Sometimes he brought dead people back to life. He also fed hungry people. With his blessed existence, he showed us that serving other fellow humans forms a major part of the foundation of monotheism,” President Rouhani explained.

He said Jesus Christ even announced that Prophet Muhammad, the great Prophet of Islam, would emerge later on in the prophets’ line of succession.
“God willing, I hope all of us will be able to follow divine prophets, including Jesus Christ, who heralded the arrival of Prophet Muhammad, the prophet of Islam. As clearly mentioned in the holy Quran, Jesus Christ announced that Prophet Muhammad would be one of the prophets to come. From our perspective, the name of Prophet Muhammad has also been mentioned in the Holy Scripture,” he noted.

Iran Gov’t Approves Law Passed by Parliament to Expand Nuclear Activities If Bans Not Lifted

The executive regulation of the law was approved by the cabinet during its weekly session on Wednesday.

The law instructs the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) to produce at least 120 kilogrammes of 20%-enriched uranium annually and stockpile it in the country and use it for peaceful purposes as needed.

It also obliges the government to meet, fully and without delay, domestic industries’ need for uranium enriched up to a purity level of 20 percent and above for peaceful purposes.

Under the law, the government would also be obliged to raise the country’s uranium enrichment and production to realize the enrichment capacity of 190 thousand separative work units (SWU).

It also requires the government to make use of advanced centrifuges, including IR6 and IR2M types.

The government will also be duty-bound to halt inspections of the country’s nuclear sites which are beyond the Additional Protocol.

Iran Reports Lowest Daily Rise in COVID-19 Fatalities Since Sep. 20

In a press briefing on Wednesday, the Ministry’s spokeswoman Sima-Sadat Lari reported 6,261 new cases of COVID-19 infection, raising the total number of cases to 1,177,004.

So far, Lari added, 914,194 patients have recovered from the disease or been discharged from the hospital.

Lari said 5,419 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.
The spokeswoman noted that 7,201,567 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.

She said currently 205 cities are in the “orange zone” and 243 are in the “yellow zone” in terms of coronavirus outbreak.

Iran Ready to Help Permanently Settle Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict: Official

Mahmoud Vaezi, the chief of staff of Iran’s Presidential Office, made the comment in a meeting with visiting Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev Abdulla oglu.

Vaezi said he was pleased to see the military conflict between the Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia has come to an end.

“Iran has always believed that differences between countries, especially neighbours, should be resolved through negotiations, and that war is, by no means, a replacement for political solutions,” he said.

He said holding multilateral meetings such as the trilateral session between Iran, Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic, or the five-way meeting between Iran, the Azerbaijan Republic, Russia, Turkey and Armenia will bring the countries closer together and contribute to the promotion of constructive and fruitful economic cooperation in the region.

“As the Azerbaijani president has stressed, Iran regards its borders with that country as a border of peace and friendship. Iran has always respected the territorial integrity of all countries and has asked other countries, too, to respect one another’s territorial integrity,” the Iranian official noted.

“Iran believes and has repeatedly emphasized that governments and neighbours should not allow foreign powers to meddle in their relations, and so far we have seen that foreign interference has only fueled differences and conflicts between neighbours and jeopardized peace and stability in the region,” Vaezi said.

“Any move or action which would result in misunderstanding and set the stage for straining relations with others should be avoided,” the Iranian official underlined.

He said officials of both countries are set to forge closer ties, which could expedite the implementation of joint ventures and further enhancement of economic cooperation as well.

The Azerbaijani official, in turn, conveyed warm greetings by his country’s president Ilham Aliyev for his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

He said Aliyev always regards borders between the two countries as serving peace and friendship.

The Azerbaijani official expressed gratitude to Iran for helping settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and supporting his country’s territorial integrity.

He added Baku regards its relations with Tehran as “strategic.”
Meanwhile, Vaezi told reporters after the meeting that new conditions have emerged in the region following the end of the military conflict between the Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia, “so it was necessary to have a meeting and discuss issues of mutual interest.”

He echoed remarks by the Azerbaijani president who had described borders between the two countries as frontiers for peace and friendship.

During his meeting with the Azerbaijani deputy prime minister, Vaezi further told reporters, the two sides agreed to hold a meeting of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission and speed up the implementation of joint projects on the construction of railways, dams and power stations.

No Worries about Supply of COVID-19 Vaccine: Iran’s President

US to Suffer Humiliating Defeat This Weekend: Rouhani

President Rouhani made the comments on Wednesday in response to some media concerns about the vaccine for COVID-19.

“We have no worries about coronavirus for the future,” he said.

“In terms of producing and procuring the vaccine, we have been moving neck and neck with the world in tackling the virus,” he added.

“Our efforts were even better and more positive than those of some countries,” the president noted.

President Rouhani then touched upon Iran managing to control a third peak in the disease.
“In recent weeks, this third surged was controlled and we saw than around 50 percent of the deaths dropped,” he explained.

“Every necessary action is being taken with regards to the vaccine, and both the Central Bank and the health ministry have set in motion plans to both procure vaccines from abroad and mass-produce vaccine inside the country in the coming months,” he noted.

The president said the number of hospital beds have doubled during the past seven years when his administration has been in power.

He said Iran has also made good progress in terms of drug production and training medical staff.
