Trump heard discussing sensitive Iran document in audio recording: Report

Trump

In the nearly two-minute recording, Trump admitted he did not declassify it before his departure from office.

The conversation occurred at his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey with two staffers, a publisher and a writer of his upcoming book, the reports said.

Trump was purportedly talking about holding a secret Pentagon document with plans to attack Iran, citing Mark Milley, the then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“Well, with Milley – let me see that. I’ll show you an example,” Trump is heard saying, according to the media reports.

“He said that I wanted to attack Iran – isn’t it amazing? I have a big pile of papers. This thing just came up, look. This was him. They presented me this,” he says, reshuffling the papers.

“It is like highly confidential, secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this. You attack and …” said Trump, according to the transcript.

“See, as president, I could have declassified, but now I can’t, you know. But this is classic,” Trump was heard saying. “Isn’t that interesting? It’s so cool.”

At one point in the recording, Trump is heard saying, “You probably didn’t believe me, but now you believe me. It’s incredible.”

In the indictment of Trump and his aide, Walt Nauta, special counsel Jack Smith referenced the recording of a meeting as evidence.

Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 counts brought by federal prosecutors on June 14 in connection with his alleged retention of classified government records after he left office.

On June 19, he stated no classified documents were present at the time the recording was made.

Following the release of the recording, Trump took to his social media platform to blast Smith.

“The Deranged Special Prosecutor, Jack Smith, working in conjunction with the DOJ & FBI, illegally leaked and ‘spun’ a tape and transcript of me which is actually an exoneration, rather than what they would have you believe,” he added.

“This continuing Witch Hunt is another ELECTION INTERFERENCE Scam. They are cheaters and thugs!” he wrote.

Colonel Valipour said the second corpes was discovered in Azadi square in western Tehran and the person who was carrying the mutiliated body has been nabbed.

China’s FM touts Beijing and Moscow as a force for “global peace”

Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang

Speaking at a conference in Beijing held by the Russian International Affairs Council and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Qin reiterated Beijing’s support for Moscow, saying it plans to work with Russia to oppose the “use of force and hegemony of individual states”.

Qin’s remarks come after senior Chinese officials expressed support for Moscow during a meeting with Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in Beijing on Sunday following the Wagner rebellion, according to a Russian Foreign Ministry statement.

On Sunday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson referred to the uprising as Russia’s “internal affair” and added: “As Russia’s friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic partner of coordination for the new era, China supports Russia in maintaining national stability and achieving development and prosperity.”

China and Russia declared a friendship with “no limits” in February 2022, shortly before Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his war on Ukraine. Since then, Beijing has refused to condemn the invasion and instead provided much-needed diplomatic and economic support for Russia while attempting to portray itself as a peacemaker in the conflict — a position that has further soured its relations with Western nations.

Iran Leader says Hajj rituals can thwart plots of arrogant powers, Zionists against humanity

Hajj

In a Tuesday message to the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage, the Leader said the rituals can render ineffective all the plans of the arrogant powers and Zionism aimed at the moral downfall of humanity at the current time and future.

Ayatollah Khamenei added that the arrogant powers and Zionism are targeting unity and spirituality with their acts of enmity and sabotage at this juncture in time and more than in the past.

The Leader emphasized that the US and other arrogant centers are strongly opposed to unity among Muslims, understanding among Muslim nations and countries, and commitment to the religion of the younger generation in these nations.

The following is the full text of Ayatollah Khamenei’s 2023 Hajj message:

In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds and peace and blessings be upon the Great Messenger of God, Muhammad al-Mustafa and upon his Pure Progeny and upon his chosen Companions.

The Abrahamic call to Hajj and his universal invitation have once again addressed the entire world from the heart of history, making eager and excited the hearts that are ready and which remember.

The invitation is addressed to all human beings: “And proclaim the Hajj to all the people” (Holy Quran 22:27). The Kaaba is the blessed host and a guide for all people: “Indeed, the first house to be set up for humankind is the one at Bakkah [Kaaba], blessed and guidance for all nations” (Holy Quran 3:96).

The Kaaba, as the focal point and the main focus of attention of all Muslims, and also the Hajj ritual as a small example of the extensive diversity of the Islamic world, can serve to elevate human society and improve the health and security of all people. Hajj can bless all humanity with spiritual and moral elevation, and this is the vital need of humankind today.

Hajj can annul and render ineffectual all the plans of the Arrogant Powers and Zionism for the moral downfall of humanity – today and in the future.

That which is a necessary condition for the occurrence of this universal impact is that as a first measure Muslims themselves should properly hear the life-giving message of Hajj and do their utmost to implement it.

The two main foundations of this message are “unity” and “spirituality.” Unity and spirituality are what guarantee the material and spiritual advancement of the Islamic world and its enlightening the entire world. Unity means being connected both intellectually and in practice. It means that hearts, thoughts, and orientations come closer together. It means a synergy in science and experience. It means having an economic connection between Islamic countries. It means the existence of trust and cooperation between Muslim governments. It means working together against common, definite enemies. Unity means that the plots designed by the enemy cannot set Islamic denominations, nations, races, languages, and the diverse cultures of the Islamic world against each other.

Unity means that Muslim nations should know each other, not through the enemy’s seditious descriptions, but through communication, dialogue, and interaction. They should be aware of each other’s potential and capacities and make plans to benefit from them.

Unity means that the scientists and universities of the Islamic world work hand in hand together, the scholars of Islamic schools view each other in good faith and with tolerance and fairness, and they listen to each other’s words. The intellectual elites in all countries and of all denominations acquaint the people with each other’s commonalities, and encourage coexistence and brotherhood.

Unity also means that political and cultural leaders in Islamic countries should prepare themselves in a coordinated manner for the situation that will exist in the upcoming world order. They need to determine with their own hands and by their own will the proper place for the Islamic Ummah in the new global experience, which is filled with opportunities and threats. They should not allow the bitter experience of the political and territorial engineering of West Asia at the hands of Western governments after WWI to be repeated.

Spirituality means advancing religious ethics. The enchantment of “ethics minus religion,” which has long been promoted by Western intellectual sources, has resulted in this unrestrained collapse of ethics in the West that everyone in the world is witnessing. Spirituality and ethics should be learned from the Hajj rituals, from the simplicity that exists in Ihram, from the negation of illusory privileges, from “feeding the destitute and the needy,” from “there is to be no sexual contact, vicious talk, or disputing,” from the circumambulation of the entire Ummah around the axis of monotheism, from the Stoning of the Devil [shaytān], and from the Disavowal of the Polytheists [mushrikīn].

My brothers and sisters who are performing the Hajj! Take advantage of the opportunity that Hajj provides to contemplate and ponder on the secrets and mysteries of this unparalleled obligatory action and make it a provision for the rest of your life. At this juncture in time and more than in the past, unity and spirituality are subject to the enmity and sabotage of the Arrogant Powers and Zionism. The US and other centers of Arrogance are strongly opposed to the unity of Muslims, to the understanding between nations, countries, and Islamic governments, and to the religiosity and commitment to religion of the younger generation in these nations. They are intensely opposed to these and they will fight these with any means they can. It is the duty of all of us, the duty of all nations, and the duty of our governments to stand against this evil scheme of the US and Zionist regime.

Ask the All-knowing, All-powerful God for help. Strengthen the spirit of “Disavowal of the Polytheists” in yourselves, and oblige yourself to spread and strengthen this spirit in the environment where you are living.

I ask Almighty God to grant all of you Iranian and non-Iranian pilgrims, success and an accepted and blessed Hajj, and I wish for all of you the accepted prayers of the great Vestige of Allah remaining on earth [Imam Mahdi (aj)] – may our souls be sacrificed for him.

May God’s greetings and mercy be upon you

UN says US treatment of Guantanamo prisoners ‘inhuman and degrading’

Guantanamo

“I observed that after two decades of custody, the suffering of those detained is profound, and it’s ongoing,” UN special rapporteur Fionnuala Ni Aolain told reporters in New York.

“The US government must urgently provide judicial resolution, apology and guarantees of non-repetition,” she added.

Aolain’s comments came after she released a new report on Monday, which detailed her observations and recommendations after visiting the detention centre at Guantanamo Bay earlier this year – the first such visit by a UN expert.

“The world has and will not forget. Without accountability, there is no moving forward on Guantanamo,” she said in her report.

The report was released on the UN’s International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. The US State Department released a statement to commemorate the day, stating: “The United States reaffirms our condemnation of torture wherever and whenever it occurs and stands in solidarity with victims and survivors of torture around the world.”

But UN experts have been critical of the American detention centre, saying that it has been an enduring symbol of human rights violations over the past two decades.

“The US Government is under a continuing obligation to complete thorough, independent, and effective investigations into alleged violations, sanction those responsible, provide appropriate redress and reparation to all victims and adopt effective guarantees of non-repetition,” the report states.

US President Joe Biden is under pressure to clear out uncharged prisoners at Guantanamo and move ahead with the trials of those accused of having direct ties to al-Qaeda.

But Aolain’s report went further, touching on issues pertaining to the rights and needs of former detainees who have been released but continue to deal with the lasting trauma from their detentions.

Her recommendations included removing former detainees from watchlists that “prevent them from the resumption of normal life in society”, and providing “as full rehabilitation as possible to the men who were detained at Guantanamo”, and address “the situation of men arbitrarily detained in Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates and any other countries where former detainees are being subject to serious violations of human rights”.

The prison at Guantanamo Bay was opened in 2002 in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and the subsequent US-led “war on terror”. By 2003, it was holding 700 detainees. Since then, hundreds were released and transferred out without ever being charged with a crime.

There are 30 detainees who remain at the facility, with 16 of them being eligible for transfer out of the prison.

Nine are being tried via the military commission process and two have been convicted via the commission process.

The report was welcomed by rights groups as well as former detainees, who further stressed the call that in addition to the need for the US to close the Guantanamo Bay prison, Washington must provide financial reparations to those who were detained and tortured in the detention facilities.

“I was a victim of US torture by the CIA. I survived and have forgiven my torturers, and I am moving on with my life in Belize. But I still wait for an apology, medical care, and other compensation,” Majid Khan, a former detainee who was released earlier this year, said in a statement.

“I appreciate all the support that Belize has provided me, but responsibility lies with the US. It would mean a lot to me,” Khan added.

Biden began a quiet effort to close the detention centre with hopes of transferring out the remaining population eligible for release, but he is facing an obstacle with the detainees ineligible for release.

Many legal experts have stressed the military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay have been an “abject failure” and have called on the US government to put an end to the proceedings, which have for decades been stuck at the pre-trial stage.

“The government is obligated to provide rehabilitation, and the detainees are entitled to it, but the government is continuing to choose not to meet its obligation,” Yumna Rizvi, a policy analyst with the Center for Victims of Torture, said in a statement.

“The government’s response to the report is a denial of the existing reality as it relates to medical care of detainees. The government must address these issues immediately before the worst possible outcome occurs, the responsibility of which will fall squarely on its shoulders,” Rizvi added.

Iranian border guard killed in clashes with terrorists

Iran Border Guard

Officials say, members of the terror groups, trying to sneak into the Iranian side of the border on Monday night were faced by the Iranian security forces.

The report adds, one security force was killed in the ensuing clashes, near Iran-Pakistan border areas.

The border areas of Iran and Pakistan are the scene of repeated attacks by terrorists and drug smugglers on Iranian forces.

Israel OKs plans to build thousands of new homes in WB

Israeli settlement

The decision comes amid rising violence in the occupied territory and growing United States criticism of Israel’s settlement policies.

The Defence Ministry planning committee that oversees settlement construction approved more than 5,000 new settlement homes on Monday. The units are at various stages of planning, and it was not immediately clear when construction would begin. There was no immediate comment from the ministry.

The international community, along with the Palestinians, considers settlement construction illegal and an obstacle to peace. More than 700,000 Israelis live in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem – territories captured by Israel in 1967 and sought by the Palestinians for a future state.

“The Netanyahu government is moving forward with its aggression and open war against the Palestinian people,” said Wasel Abu Yousef, a Palestinian official in the West Bank.

“We affirm that all settler colonialism in all the occupied Palestinian territories is illegitimate and illegal,” he added.

Israel’s government, which took office in late December, is dominated by religious and ultranationalist politicians with close ties to the settlement movement. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a firebrand settler leader, has been granted Cabinet-level authority over settlement policies and has vowed to double the settler population in the occupied West Bank.

Netanyahu’s government has made settlement expansion its top priority since he was re-elected in November.

Senior members of the Israeli government have been pushing for increased construction and other measures to cement Israel’s control over the territory in response to a more than year-long wave of violence with the Palestinians.

Last week, at least seven Palestinians were killed and dozens of others were wounded after Israeli forces raided the Jenin refugee camp. Following the raid, four Israelis were killed by two Palestinian gunmen who opened fire next to an illegal Jewish settlement.

Israel expanded its military activity in the West Bank in early 2022 after a series of deadly Palestinian attacks.

At least 174 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers since the start of this year, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Some 24 people have been killed in Palestinian attacks.

Israel captured the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip in the 1967 Middle East war. The Palestinians claim all three territories for a future independent state.

United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestine Francesca Albanese told Al Jazeera that international law has “a problem of enforcement”.

“There is a problem of double standards, because clearly when it comes to Palestine there is a cognitive dissonance especially among Western countries and reticence in applying the coercive measures and all the prohibitions that international law affords,” Albanese said.

The administration of US President Joe Biden has been increasingly outspoken in its criticism of Israel’s settlement policies.

US Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller stated “we are deeply troubled” by the Israeli government’s latest decision.

“We are simply concerned by reports of changes to Israel’s system of settlement administration that expedite the planning and approval of settlements,” Miller continued, adding, “we have communicated our concerns about settlements and increased settlement units directly to the Israeli government and I suspect they can figure out the proper implications.”

Earlier this month, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the settlements “an obstacle to the horizon of hope we seek” in a speech to the pro-Israel lobbying group the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Despite the criticism, the US has taken little action against Israel. In a sign of its displeasure, the White House has not yet invited Netanyahu for a visit – as is customary following Israeli elections.

And this week, the US announced it would not transfer funds to Israeli institutions for science and technology research projects in the occupied West Bank. The decision restored a long-standing policy that had been canceled by the pro-settlement administration of former US President Donald Trump.

Ahead of Monday’s vote, Israeli Cabinet Minister Issac Wasserlauf, a member of the far-right Jewish Power party, played down the disagreements with the US.

“I think the alliance with the US will remain,” he told the Army Radio station, adding, “There are disagreements. We knew how to deal with them in the past.”

Dust storms in Iran’s southeast send more than 1,000 to hospitals

Dust storm Iran

Majid Mohebbi the head of the Crisis Management Headquarters of the province told IRNA since last Thursday severe dust storms have hit 5 cities of Sistan including Zabol, Zahak, Hamoun, Hirmand and Nimrouz which sent 1,059 people to hospitals out of whom 145 are still hospitalized.

He added relief and service forces are on high alert.

Officials say strong winds with a maximum speed of 101 km/h ripped through the city of Zabul on Tuesday and the resulting dust has reduced the horizontal visibility to 600 meters.

Being located in a hot and dry region, the province receives low rainfall compared to other regions. In some cases, the amount of annual rainfall in a provincial region falls in less than 24 hours in the province, causing torrential floods.

Affected by the Asian monsoon, the northern parts of Sistan and Baluchistan Province are slapped by strong winds and dust storms for 120 days during the hot months of the year.

Putin says Wagner fighters can sign up with defense ministry or move to Belarus

Vladimir Putin

“The overwhelming majority of the fighters and commanders of the Wagner group are also Russian patriots, devoted to their people and country. They proved this with their courage on the battlefield,” Putin said in his address on Monday evening.

The organizers of the insurrection “kept them in the dark and tried using them against their brothers in arms, with whom they fought shoulder to shoulder for the sake of the country and its future,” he added.

The Russian leader thanked the Wagner soldiers and commanders, who “stopped at the last line” and didn’t allow the “fratricidal bloodshed” to take place. He added that the promise he gave during negotiations to settle the crisis will be kept.

“You have the opportunity to sign a contract with the Defense Ministry and other law enforcement agencies or return to your family and friends. Anyone, who wants to, can go to Belarus,” Putin stressed, addressing the members of the private military company.

Wagner launched a major mutiny late on Friday on the order of its head, businessman Evgeny Prigozhin. The rebelling troops seized control of the Russian military’s Southern District headquarters in the city of Rostov-on-Don and sent a convoy towards Moscow.

The revolt came to a halt on Saturday night as Prigozhin announced that his men would be returning to their field camps following talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. According to Minsk, the negotiations took place in close coordination with Putin.

Prigozhin, who stated that he launched the insurrection because “they [the Defense Ministry] wanted to disband Wagner PMC,” will leave Russia and “go to Belarus” as a result of the deal, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said. The criminal case against Prigozhin will be dropped, with Wagner fighters, who took part in the mutiny, also avoiding prosecution, he added.

Russia’s “Special Operation” in Ukraine; Day 489: Zelensky says Ukrainian forces advancing ‘in all directions’

Russia Ukraine War

Putin says no civilians were killed in failed Wagner insurrection

Russian President Vladimir Putin said there were no civilian casualties during Wagner’s advance towards Moscow on Saturday, as he addressed security forces involved in resisting the paramilitary group’s mutiny.

The Kremlin leader praised law enforcement units for defending “the life, security and freedom of our citizens,” and thanked them for their “military duty.”

On Monday, Putin confirmed the death of Russian army pilots in weekend clashes against Wagner.

Russian military and its law enforcement agencies prevented a major internal armed conflict in the country last week, Putin stated, referring to the aborted rebellion by Wagner Group chief Evgeny Prigozhin.

“In fact, you have stopped a civil war, acting precisely and cohesively,” he told a group of service members, who gathered at the Kremlin on Tuesday to receive state decorations for their endeavors last Friday and Saturday.

The response of the people, on whom Russia’s security depends, enabled all critical defenses and government systems to continue operating, the president added. He noted that no units had been pulled back from the frontline of the special military operation in Ukraine.

Kremlin rebuffs suggestion that Wagner rebellion threatened Putin’s leadership

Moscow on Tuesday rejected the notion that Wagner’s failed mutiny jeopardized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s authority, claiming such assertions “have no bearing on reality.”

“The level of consolidation demonstrated by society, political parties, the military, our servicemen, civil society representatives, religious leaders, believers, and others around the president is very high,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

“These events only showcased the strength of the level of unity within society around the president,” he added.

“There are currently numerous ultra-emotional outbursts among so-called experts, pseudo-experts, political scientists, and pseudo-political scientists. Some hysterical voices are also emerging in certain online and new media platforms,” he continued.

Wagner forces took control of military facilities in southern Russia on Saturday, and threatened to march on Moscow, in a move that sent shockwaves through Putin’s decades-long grip on power.

Moscow says it’s unaware of Prigozhin’s whereabouts

The Kremlin on Tuesday did not give further details on the agreement reached with Yevgeny Prigozhin, after the Wagner boss pulled his forces back from a march on Moscow in a failed armed insurrection over the weekend.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said agreements were reached in order to avoid the “worse-case scenario” but failed to expand on the deal, which also involved Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, a key ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We are talking about a rather sad and very extraordinary event. A lot of work has been done by a number of people. I repeat once again, the will of the president was demonstrated to prevent the development of events according to the worst scenario,” Peskov stated.

“There were certain promises from the president, certain guarantees from the president,” he continued.

He added that he is not aware of current whereabouts of Prigozhin, who has not been seen in public since the weekend’s events.

“I don’t have any information regarding that matter, and I am unable to provide any details,” Peskov told reporters when questioned about whether the Kremlin has any information on the Wagner chief’s location.

Peskov also refused to comment on earlier remarks made by Lukashenko.

Earlier on Tuesday, Russia’s Federal Security Service said it is dropping the case against the Wagner rebels, state media RIA Novosti said.

Russia says it will drop charges against Wagner group for armed insurrection attempt

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Tuesday that it will drop the case against the Wagner paramilitary group, after its fighters staged an attempted rebellion on Saturday that threatened President Vladimir Putin’s grip on power.

The case of the armed insurrection armed was dropped on June 27, the FSB added, state media RIA Novosti reported.

“During the investigation of the case of the rebellion, it was established that its participants stopped their actions directly aimed at committing a crime, the case was closed,” the FSB press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement did not mention Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin by name.

Wagner will also hand over its heavy military equipment to active units of the Russian military, the Russian Defense Ministry noted on Tuesday, according to RIA Novosti.

On Monday, Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed that the mercenary group was due to leave its positions on June 30 and hand over equipment to the Southern Military District in Rostov, Russia.

However, he claimed Moscow’s troops attacked Wagner forces on Friday, days before that handover was due to take place.

Jet linked to Prigozhin arrives in Belarus following mutiny

Ukrainian fighters have advanced in all directions of frontline: Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Monday that Ukrainian forces have made advances on all fronts.

“Our warriors have advanced in all directions, and this is a happy day,” he said in his nightly address.

Zelensky’s comments followed his visit to the frontlines of the Donetsk region and Zaporizhzhia on Monday. Zelensky added he awarded Gold Stars of the Hero of Ukraine to two fighters and met with several generals.

The Ukrainian president added that “several operational decisions were made” during his meeting with the generals.

US gathered detailed intelligence on Wagner chief’s rebellion plans but kept it secret: Sources

US intelligence officials were able to gather an extremely detailed and accurate picture of Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin’s plans leading up to his short-lived rebellion, including where and how Wagner was planning to advance, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

But the intelligence was so closely held that it was shared only with select allies, including senior British officials, and not at the broader NATO level, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

It was not clear exactly when Prigozhin would act, the sources said. But he appears to have decided to move forward with his plan following a June 10 declaration by Russia’s Ministry of Defense that all private military companies, including Wagner, would be forced to sign contracts with Russia’s military beginning in July and essentially be absorbed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The intelligence was so secret that within the US, it was briefed only to the most senior administration officials as well as the Gang of Eight members of Congress who have access to the most sensitive intelligence matters.

The secrecy surrounding the intelligence was why some senior European officials and even senior officials across the US government were caught off guard by Prigozhin’s attack on Friday, and the speed with which Wagner forces marched into Rostov-on-Don and up toward Moscow into Saturday morning, the sources said.

Some NATO officials expressed frustration that the intelligence was not shared. But doing so would have risked compromising extremely sensitive sources and methods, sources explained. Ukrainian officials were not told about the intelligence in advance, either, officials said, due primarily to fears that conversations between US and Ukrainian officials might be intercepted by adversaries.

Biden spent the days after the rebellion fizzled out speaking with allies, including the leaders of France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada, as well as Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky. During those conversations, he shared what information the US had about the rebellion, according to officials, in order to ensure the leaders had a better understanding of what was known to US intelligence.

Putin is holding meeting with top security officials, including defense minister: Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin is holding a meeting with the heads of security agencies, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday night, according to state media RIA Novosti.

“Prosecutor General Krasnov, Interior Minister Kolokoltsev, Defense Minister Shoigu, FSB director Bortnikov, National Guard head Zolotov, FSO director Kochnev, head of the Investigative Committee Bastrykin, and the head of the Kremlin administration Vaino are participating,” according to RIA Novosti.

Putin says Wagner fighters can sign up with defense ministry, return to families or move to Belarus

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday thanked the Wagner Group fighters who made the “right decision” and halted their advance.

“I thank those soldiers and commanders of the Wagner Group who made the only right decision — they did not go for fratricidal bloodshed, they stopped at the last line,” Putin said in an address to the nation.

He also added those fighters would have the “opportunity to continue serving Russia by entering into a contract with the Ministry of Defense or other law enforcement agencies, or to return to your family and friends. Whoever wants to can go to Belarus.”

During the address to the nation, Putin did not mention Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin by name.

Prigozhin broke his silence earlier Monday in an audio message — his first since allegedly agreeing to leave Russia for Belarus in a deal to end the insurrection. Belarusian officials said they cannot confirm if Prigozhin arrived in the country.

Putin’s address on Monday lasted five minutes.

He stated that the “armed rebellion would have been suppressed anyway,” a reference to the insurrection launched by the Wagner Group.

“Civil solidarity showed that any blackmail and attempts to organize an internal mutiny will end in defeat,” the president continued.

The Russian president appeared to be speaking in a pre-recorded address.

Putin’s last address to the nation was on Saturday morning while Yevgeny Prigozhin and Wagner forces launched their march toward Moscow.

Russia’s main motivation in war is to keep land it has already seized: Ukraine official

Ukraine’s deputy defense minister said on Monday that Russia’s main motivation is to keep land it already seized.

“The motivation ‘not to lose’ the seized lands will be much stronger than the motivation to seize more lands,” Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said in a Telegram post.

“It is psychologically easier for them to endure an unsuccessful offensive than the loss of conquered lands. This demoralizes and demotivates them irreparably,” she continued.

She added, “The task of the Russian Federation now is to stop our offensive at any cost. By blowing up dams, mining fields, continuous shelling, sabotage, information campaigns, and even ‘nuclear’ rhetoric.”

Maliar acknowledged that it is a difficult time for Ukrainian troops as they continue their offensive.

“Our troops are really having a hard time now. It is very difficult. But they are moving forward. Steadily,” she said. “Because we are fighting a just war. And this is our strength.”
