Iranian FM writes to UN Human Rights Chief, warns of “Gaza genocide”

Gaza War

Hossein Amirabdollahian said the rights commissioner and other UN human rights mechanisms are expected to take measures to immediately stop the regime’s attacks and hold its rulers to account for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In the letter, the Iranian foreign minister pointed to the Zionist regime’s aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip for the second consecutive week that led to the martyrdom and injury of thousands of Palestinian civilians, including women and children, as well as the destruction of Gaza’s residential buildings, civilian facilities, infrastructures, hospitals, schools, places of worship as well as United Nations centers.

He stressed that remarks by the Israeli regime’s authorities along with the large-scale and systematic attacks by the Zionist troops in the Gaza Strip indicate that this is a campaign for the genocide of the Palestinian people.

Amirabdollahian further said that the attacks by the Zionist regime have become so intensified that show they are aimed at mass killing the Palestinian people in Gaza. According to the latest figures based on a report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), over 700 children are estimated to have been killed in Gaza and 2,450 more children have been injured since the beginning of the war on October 7.

The Iranian foreign minister, also underlined that the forced displacement of the Palestinian people by the Israeli regime and the entry of the regime forces into Gaza for “ethnic cleansing” is in stark contradiction with international law.

He added, Palestinians are not safe anywhere in Gaza, because the Israeli regime has imposed a “total blockade” on the tiny strip and illegally cut off water, food, fuel and electricity to the enclave.

The Iranian foreign minister also said that this type of impunity granted despite the Israeli regime’s behavior has emboldened it to commit crimes.

IMF warns of long-term consequences to Middle East economies from Gaza war

Gaza War

Speaking to CNN’s Richard Quest in front of an audience at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Saudi Arabia, Kristalina Georgieva said: “What we see is more jitters in what has already been an anxious world. And on a horizon that has had plenty of cloud, one more and it can get deeper.”

Georgieva told the conference the Fund is concerned firstly with “the tragic loss of life”, adding it is also worried about the “destruction and reduction of economic activity”, such as children not going to school and the impact on neighboring countries who are dependent on tourism.

Georgieva also warned investors to expect interest rates to stay elevated, telling Quest: “We have spent the last 20 years, living frankly in terms of interest rates, in fantasy land. How can you have interest rates at zero or even in negative territory, and still create the savings and the capacity to function? It is actually going to [be] normal to have interest rates that are in positive territory – the problem is, it has happened too fast and the jump is too high.”

When challenged that this is what the Fund wanted, Georgieva answered “We’re not thrilled with going from 0 to 5 [percent] so quickly – but we’re there. So now we’re there, our call to everybody is – buckle up. Make sure that you understand interest rates are here to stay for longer”.

Putin calls West ideas about new world order ‘hypocrisy, double standards’

Vladimir Putin

“At the same time, there is talk about some kind of new world order, the idea behind it is actually the same: hypocrisy, double standards, claims to exclusivity, to global dominance, to the preservation of an essentially neo-colonial system,” Putin said at a meeting with representatives of religious associations of Russia on Wednesday.

The president also offered condolences to families of those killed in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.

“I sincerely want to express my condolences to the families of Israelis and citizens of other countries whose loved ones died and were injured in the attack on October 7 this year,” Putin stressed.

The Russian president also called the current escalation of the conflict in the Middle East a “humanitarian catastrophe”.

“For us, the obvious outcome [of the October 7 attack] is that innocent people [in the Gaza Strip] should not be held accountable for crimes committed by others. The fight against terrorism cannot be conducted according to the notorious principle of collective responsibility… this is a real humanitarian catastrophe,” Putin emphasized, adding that it is necessary to stop the bloodshed.

Putin also noted that there are attempts to “drag as many countries as possible” into the conflict.

Iran’s Sholeh Zard ranked best pudding in world

Sholeh Zard

The sweet Iranian dessert made with saffron, sugar, and rice and decorated with ground cinnamon, pistachios, or slivered flakes, is high in calorie and easy to prepare.

It is usually served on special occasions or as votive known as Nazri among Iranians, during religious ceremonies or in the fasting Muslim month of Ramadan for breaking fast.

Turkey’s Firin Sutlac, Puerto Rico’s Tembleque, and Thailand’s Khao Niao Mamuang come as next bests on the top ten list released by TasteAtlas.

TasteAtlas says its food rankings are based on the ratings of the audience, with a series of mechanisms that recognize real users and ignore bot, nationalist or local patriotic ratings.

2,126 took part in the vote for the 10 Best Rated Puddings in the World list until October 15 at the end of which Iranian pudding Sholeh Zard ranked as the best.

Iran top commander: Israel’s military, security dignity won’t be restored

Ramezan Sharif

The Spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), General Ramezan Sharif, made the remarks in a gathering on Wednesday in the western Iranian city of Boroujen in commemoration of Iranian martyrs of the eight-year war with Iraq in the 1980s.

“Even if the Zionists bomb all of Gaza, their military and security dignity will not return. You can be sure that the resistance fighters who carried out the operation, know the Zionists well,” the commander said.

He was referring to the surprise attack by the Palestinian group Hamas against Israel on October 7 during which 1400 Israelis were killed and more than 200 others were nabbed, that saw the Israeli military and intelligence failure.

General Sharif underlined that the Palestinian resistance fighters “crushed the fake Zionist regime” by carrying out its surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.

The Iranian commander said the operation shattered the Israeli regime’s “fake grandeur”.

He also warned if the Israeli military starts a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, it will cause “a bigger disgrace” for the occupying regime.

Israel to block visas for UN officials following comments by Guterres on Palestine

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres

Among his remarks Tuesday to the Security Council, Guterres said Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel “did not happen in a vacuum”.

“As a result of this, we will refuse visas to UN representatives,” Ambassador Gilad Erdan told the Israeli Army Radio on Wednesday.

Israel has already rejected a visa application by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, he stated.

“It’s time we teach them a lesson,” Erdan added.

Guterres said Hamas’ attack on southern Israel came amid years of “suffocating occupation” suffered by Palestinians at the hands of Israeli forces. They “have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence”, he added.

Hamas raided parts of southern Israel earlier this month, killing at least 1,400 people and abducting more than 200 others, according to Israeli authorities.

Israeli strikes have since killed more than 6,500 people in Gaza, including over 2,300 children, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Israel’s fierce bombardment and complete blockage on the Palestinian enclave have flattened entire neighborhoods, depleted the health care system and endangered the lives of civilians who face severe dehydration and starvation. Israel’s “collective punishment” of Gaza civilians amounts to a war crime, Amnesty International announced.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Israel’s criticism of Guterres was “unjustified” and represented a “lack of respect and compliance practiced by the occupying state against the United Nations”.

Griffiths, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, has been unequivocal in his call to help Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

“I reiterate the Secretary General’s call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to ease the epic human suffering in Gaza,” he said on Tuesday.

“If we are to prevent any further descent into this humanitarian catastrophe, dialogue must continue,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Palestinian death toll in West Bank tops 100

Israel Palestine

The Palestinian death toll in the West Bank since the start of the current conflict on Oct. 7 has risen to 103, including two in Israeli prisons.

The health ministry said the number was reached after several people were killed by Israeli soldiers in Jenin and Qalqilya.

On Tuesday, the Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners Club announced the death of a Palestinian prisoner in Israeli prison, marking the second such case in less than 24 hours.

They did not address the circumstances surrounding his death and there has been no official statement from Israeli authorities on the matter.

The West Bank is witnessing a wave of clashes and confrontations between Palestinians and the Israeli army as the Israeli operation intensifies and the humanitarian situation deteriorates in the Gaza Strip.

The conflict in Gaza, which has been under Israeli bombardment since Oct. 7, began when Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, a multi-pronged surprise attack that included a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air. It stressed the incursion was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing violence by Israeli settlers.

The Israeli military then launched a relentless air campaign against the Gaza Strip.

Nearly 7,400 people have been killed in the conflict, including at least 6,000 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis.

Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been running out of food, water, medicines and fuel, and aid convoys allowed into Gaza have carried only a fraction of what is needed.

Hezbollah leader meets Hamas and Islamic Jihad top officials

Lebanon's Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah meets Jihad Secretary General Ziyad al-Nakhalah and deputy leader of Hamas, Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri.

Nasrallah met a deputy head of Hamas, Saleh Al-Arouri, and the secretary general of Palestinian Islamic Jihad Ziad Nakhla, the statement said, but it did not say where the meeting took place.

“An assessment was made of…what the parties of the resistance axis must do at this sensitive stage to achieve a real victory for the resistance in Gaza and Palestine and to stop the treacherous and brutal aggression against our people,” the statement added.

The Hezbollah press office also released on Wednesday morning a handwritten letter by Nasrallah commending those who have died fighting Israel — his first statement since the start of the war.

Hezbollah also announced on Wednesday two more fighters have been killed, raising its death toll to 11 in the last 24 hours and 40 since the outbreak of the war on Gaza.

Amid the conflict in the Gaza Strip between Israeli troops and Hamas, tension has flared along the border between the Israeli-occupied territories and Lebanon, with exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

Hezbollah and the Israeli regime have been exchanging sporadic fire since October 8, a day after the Zionist regime started bringing the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip under a relentless and indiscriminate war.

The Lebanese resistance movement has announced the group’s “guns and rockets” were with Palestinian fighters, and stressed that it will intensify its attacks against Israel if necessary.

Gallant told senior Israeli officials last week that Hezbollah is “ten times stronger than Hamas”, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster has reported.

US President Joe Biden and his aides have advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to launch pre-emptive strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, The New York Times daily newspaper has reported.

Hezbollah has already fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, forcing a humiliating retreat upon the Tel Aviv regime’s military in both cases.

The resistance movement has vowed to resolutely defend Lebanon in case of any Israeli-imposed war.

Iran Leader: US ‘definite accomplice’ in Israeli crimes

Ayatollah Khamenei

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks earlier on Wednesday in a meeting with members of the Martyrs Commemoration Congress from the western Iranian province of Lorestan.

The statements came in reaction to the Israeli regime’s assault on over 2.3 million people in the Gaza Strip since October 7, with more than 12,000 tons of explosives used against Palestinians, that has so far left over 6,000 people killed and at least 18,000 injured.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the US is behind the unabated Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.

“The presence of the heads of oppressor and vicious states in occupied Palestinian territories shows they are worried about Israel disintegration,” the Leader stated.

The Iranian leader echoed his previous remarks that Gaza “is a scene of grandeur” despite being oppressed by the Zionist regime.

He also said Operation Al-Aqsa Flood by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas against Israel was a “crushing and decisive” blow to the occupying regime after decades of violating Palestinians’ rights.

The Leader also called on Islamic governments not to remain passive in the face of the crimes perpetrated by Israel, stressing that “Palestine will definitely succeed.”
