Trump and Clinton Face Off in 2nd Debate for US 2016 Election

Trump Clinton

The debate was held at the Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, on Sunday night.

The two candidates broke traditional debate decorum by refusing to shake hands as they took the stage.

Trump called her Democratic rival a “devil” and Clinton said the business mogul owes all Americans an apology for a campaign driven by insults and degrading comments about women and minorities.

The debate came as the Trump campaign is in crisis after his sexually obscene comments, made years earlier, were exposed in a video tape, Press TV reported.

The video was recorded in 2005 while Trump was on a bus with former “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush. The former reality TV star can be heard talking about his failed attempt to seduce a “married” woman. “I moved on her and I failed. I’ll admit it. She was married. And I moved on her very heavily.” He also says, “I’m automatically attracted to beautiful” women. “I just start kissing them. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”

The leaked tape angered Republican leaders, many of whom have withdrawn their endorsement of Trump and called for him to drop out of the race.

According to the Associated Press, the debate served as Trump’s “final opportunity to keep his campaign,” following calls by Republican leaders for his withdrawal.

Commenting on his lewd remarks exposed in the recording, Trump pushed back against the criticisms, saying he had never really kissed or groped women without consent and that was just “locker room talk.”

“No, I didn’t say that at all. I don’t think you understand what I said,” he told debate moderator Anderson Cooper, who described the remarks as “sexual assault.”

Clinton, on the other hand, rejected Trump’s defense in his apology following the leak, saying the vulgar comments reflect “who Donald Trump is” and what he “thinks about women, what he does to women.”

“It’s clear to anyone who heard it, it represents exactly who he is.”

She further denounced Trump’s other disparaging remarks against not only women, but African Americans, asylum seekers, people with disabilities, prisoners of war and Muslims.

The former first lady shrugged off Trump’s attacks on Bill Clinton’s affair as US president, and suggested that Trump’s apology was not enough as he must apologize to the whole country for the way he has conducted his insult-driven campaign.

Bill Clinton ‘Far Worse’ an Abuser

Trump tore into Hillary’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, for his past infidelities and sexual misconduct.

“If you look at Bill Clinton, far worse,” Trump said. “Mine are words, and his was action. His was, what he’s done to women, there’s never been anybody in the history of politics in this nation that’s been so abusive to women.

“So, you can say any way you want to say it, but Bill Clinton was abusive to women. Hillary Clinton attacked those same women and attacked them viciously.”

Trump invited three women who have accused Bill Clinton of sexual misconduct to the debate, along with a fourth who is a rape victim and has criticized Hillary Clinton for defending her accused rapist as the court-appointed defense attorney 40 years ago.

“So don’t tell me about words,” he said. “I absolutely, I apologize to those words. … When Hillary brings up a point like that and she talks about words that I said 11 years ago, I think it’s disgraceful, and I think she should be ashamed of herself.”

Islamophobic Answer to Islamophobia Question

Later during the debate, Trump refused to answer a question about how to stop Islamophobia in the US, asserting that Muslims themselves should report dangerous behavior by terrorists.

The billionaire suggested that American Muslims don’t often share information with law enforcement in order to protect extremists within their communities.

“Muslims have to report the problems when they see them,” he said. “And you know there’s always a reason for everything. If they don’t do that, it’s a very difficult situation for our country.”

Trump also said that his controversial proposal to ban Muslims from entering the US has “morphed” into a plan for “extreme vetting” of refugees who he said might be a “Trojan horse.”

Clinton slammed Trump’s stance as “dark and divisive.”

“We are a country founded on religious freedom and liberty. How do we do what [Trump] has advocated without causing great distress within our country?” the Democrat said. “Are we going to have religious tests when people fly into our country?”

Clinton ‘in Jail’ If I Was President

Trump also attacked his Democratic rival over her use of a private email server as secretary of state. The businessman said he would appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton if elected president.

Clinton said it was good that someone with Trump’s temperament was not in charge of the US legal system.

Trump quipped, “because you would be in jail.”

Clash over Syria Policy

In an exchange over Syria policy, Trump said he disagreed with his running mate, Mike Pence, who earlier urged US attacks against military targets of President Bashar al-Assad if Russia continued to assist the Syrian government with airstrikes.

“He and I haven’t spoken and I disagree,” he said.

“You have to knock out ISIS. Right now,” the real estate tycoon said, using another acronym for the Daesh terrorist group. “Syria is fighting ISIS. We have people that want to fight both at the same time.”

“We have to worry about ISIS before we can get too much more involved,” Trump noted.

The Republican candidate said he did not like Assad, but added that his forces were battling terrorism along with Russia and Iran.

“I don’t like Assad at all, but Assad is killing ISIS. Russia is killing ISIS. And Iran is killing ISIS. And those three have now lined up because of our weak foreign policy.”

Meanwhile, Clinton accused Russia of being only “interested in keeping Assad in charge” and not paying “any attention to ISIS.”

“We need some leverage with the Russians because they’re not going to come to the negotiation table without leverage,” Clinton said.

She also renewed her calls setting up a no-fly zone in Syria and arming the Kurdish fighters, but acknowledged that sending US troops on the ground would be “a very serious mistake.”

Earlier in the debate, Trump said that the US and Russia should fight Daesh together in Syria. “I think it would be great if we got along with Russia.”

Analysts Urge US to Remove Remaining Anti-Iran Sanctions

Iran-US-flags

According to a report by Iran Newspaper, as translated by IFP, a majority of economists and political activists believe that the US permission to Boeing and Airbus to sell commercial aircraft to Iran, which was issued under the pressure of international community and Iran’s active economic and political diplomacy, can be considered as a significant step in the implementation of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). They say, the US government should also adopt further measures hereafter to remove the remaining banking and other economic obstacles hindering the full implementation of JCPOA.

Assurance to Financial Firms

In experts’ view, the permission for plane sales could be an assurance to the world’s major financial firms to initiate interactions and transactions with Iran; therefore, one can be hopeful that the world’s major banks would launch dealings and transactions with Iran, which have yet to be fulfilled due to US incomplete implementation of its commitments.

Analysts Urge US to Remove Remaining Anti-Iran Sanctions

Addressing the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif referred to the US sabotage in the implementation of JCPOA, and noted, “The Office of Foreign Assets Control, OFAC, of the US Treasury Department goes out and tells these people that it’s OK to do business with Iran, but—and the buts and ifs are so long. So at the end of the day, these banks say we’ll take the safe road. We’ll forget about Iran. And that has been the outcome. […] Even the US government took six or seven months to give the license to Airbus to sell 17 out of 118 planes they requested. Well, fortunately they gave a license to Boeing to sell 80 of the 88 planes they requested.”

Gaps in the Complex Sanctions

As regards the existing gaps in the complex sanctions, Saeed Laylaz, an Iranian economist commented that the license given to Airbus and Boeing will definitely have psychological impacts on the investors and large financial firms. This is particularly important since the US is constrained to give momentum to the implementation of JCPOA under the pressure of Iran and the Europeans.

Analysts Urge US to Remove Remaining Anti-Iran Sanctions

He went on to say that there appeared a big rift in the oldest and most complicated sanctions against Iran; therefore, such serious gaps will have influence on non-nuclear sanctions as well. As Boeing is one of the major financial firms of the US and the world whose financial interactions with various economic sectors would affect other sectors too.

Laylaz highlighted that Iran’s active diplomacy caused a serious split between the Europeans and the US line-up. The US and Europeans, who previously had convergent policies due to a lack of proper management of our diplomacy, are now eager to establish business relationships with Iran, consequently losing their unity.

Laylaz added, “We have entered into an era that the heavy atmosphere of the international community against Iran is not there anymore. The world’s unity against so-called Iran’s danger has dissolved, indicating Iran’s rational and active diplomacy.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, he referred to the recent summit in New York and Iran’s political influence, and said, “We have realised an unprecedented gap between the US and European countries.”

“European leaders also voiced their discontent with the US double-standard approach in the implementation of JCPOA, and the issue was explicitly passed to the Americans during a meeting of the Group 5+1 member states by Iran and Europe,” he noted.

A Good Sign for JCPOA Implementation

Iran’s ex-minister of economic affairs and finance, Tahmasb Mazaheri, in an interview with Iran acknowledged that the permission given for plane sales is a good sign for the full implementation of JCPOA.

He stressed that the US has been coerced into an executable process which, at the end of the day, will facilitate the path and help the accurate implementation of the deal.

Emphasizing the US dishonesty and Iranians’ distrust of their intentions, Mazaheri said, “Despite the good signs, one still cannot be sure whether the US will remain loyal to its commitments or not, because they indicated that their guarantees have been invalid so far and it turned out that the US has no desire to implement JCPOA fully and correctly.”

He added that Iranians cannot trust the Americans due to the policies adopted by the US during the history; however, he added, giving permission to Boeing and Airbus can be considered as a good sign to fully implement the JCPOA and consequently the deal will bring economic benefits to Iran.

US AT&T Enters into Partnership with Iran’s RighTel Operator: Report

page

According to a report carried by the New York Times on Saturday, Iran’s RighTel and AT&T signed the cooperation document last week, which will allow voice calls, text messaging and data service between Iran and the US.

The American company has now included Iran on the list of its countries and customers will be charged $3 for a one-minute call to Iran.

A spokesman for RightTel has reportedly confirmed the report.

Prior to this, mobile phones with American SIM cards could not receive any sort of signal in Iran and vice versa.

Persian Official Used to Work in Ancient Japan over 1,000 Years Ago

184712_402

Present-day Iran and Japan were known to have had direct trade links since at least the 7th century, but new testing on a piece of wood — first discovered in the ’60s — suggest broader ties, the researchers said.

184712_402-1Infrared imaging revealed previously unreadable characters on the wood — a standard writing surface in Japan before paper — that named a Persian official living in the country.

The official worked at an academy where government officials were trained, said Akihiro Watanabe, a researcher at the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties.

The official may have been teaching mathematics, Watanabe added, pointing to ancient Iran’s expertise in the subject, as reported by Japan Times, as covered by ISNA.

“Although earlier studies have suggested there were exchanges with Persia as early as the 7th century, this is the first time a person as far away as Persia was known to have worked in Japan,” he said.

“And this suggests Nara was a cosmopolitan city where foreigners were treated equally.”

Nara was the capital of Japan known as Heijokyo from around 710 to around 784 before it was moved to Kyoto and later to present-day Tokyo.

The discovery comes after another team of researchers last month unearthed ancient Roman coins at the ruins of an old castle in Okinawa Prefecture.

It was the first time coins from the once mighty empire have been discovered in Japan, thousands of kilometres from where they were likely minted.

People in Yemen Hold Protest Rally against Saudi Deadly Airstrike in Front of UN Office

07211015-6a4a-4d97-b4fc-e4413c74ad0f

Carrying flags and placards, the demonstrators gathered outside the United Nations office in Sana’a on Sunday to express their outrage at the Saudi aggression against their country.

The protest rally was called by Yemen’s Supreme Political Council on Saturday.

More than 140 people were killed and over 525 wounded on Saturday, when the Saudi airstrike hit a community hall in southern Sana’a, where a funeral for the father of Interior Minister Jalal al-Roweishan was being held.

The Saudi missiles tore through the hall with hundreds of body parts left strewn in and outside the building.

The death toll was one of the largest in a single incident since March 2015, when the Riyadh regime began its deadly campaign to crush the Houthis and their allies and restore power to resigned president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Sana’a Mayor Abdel Qader Hilal was reported to be among the victims of Saturday’s assault.

In another development on Sunday, Hamza al-Houthi, a senior member of the Houthi Ansarullah movement, accused the Saudi kingdom of trying to hide its crimes in Yemen to prevent the international bodies from decrying its misdeeds.

“Saudi Arabia’s denial of its crimes in Yemen at this time is a tactic used to cover them up and prevent investigative committees from exposing the dimensions of these crimes,” Houthi said.

The scenes of bombardment broadcast on TV are strong proof of the Saudi crimes in Yemen, Houthi further pointed out, Press TV reported.

The official also called on the international community, with the United Nations at the helm, to take a practical and explicit measure in response to the attack.

The comments come after Saudi military spokesman Brigadier General Ahmed Asiri refused to take responsibility for the fatal aerial assault in Yemen, saying an investigation must be launched into the incident.

He also warned that the Yemeni forces would take revenge against the aggressors.

Iranian Official Raps US Role in Saudi Attack on Funeral in Yemen

shamkhani

The Yemeni people at the funeral ceremony were bombed with American delivered to the “aggressive Saudi army”, Shamkhani said in a statement on Sunday, stressing that the US is an accomplice in the crime and should be held accountable for it.

“Sales of arms to Saudi Arabia and the (United Arab) Emirates play a key factor in the military aggression against Yemen and the killing of innocent Yemenis, and the West should stop it,” he added, saying the Western public opinion should realize what role their governments are playing in the continuation of the war on Yemen.

On Saturday, Saudi-led warplanes targeted a crowded funeral ceremony in Sana’a, killing over 140 people and injuring more than 530 others.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to UN estimates, over 10,000 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the military campaign.

UN Secretary General Condemns Saudi Attack on Funeral in Yemen

Yemen

“The Secretary-General condemns the attack on an event hall in Sana’a where hundreds of people were gathered for a funeral ceremony,” the statement read.

“Initial reports indicate that the attack, said to have been airstrikes by the Coalition, killed over 140 people and injured hundreds of others… The Secretary-General notes that any deliberate attack against civilians is utterly unacceptable and calls for a prompt and impartial investigation of this incident. Those responsible for the attack must be brought to justice,” it added, as reported by Tasnim.

According to the UN estimates, the attack claimed over 140 lives and left more than 534 people wounded.

The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Yemen, Jamie McGoldrick, said on Sunday, the world body’s relief mission in Yemen was “shocked and outraged” by the deadly assault in Saudi Air strike against a hell in Sana`a

He also called for an immediate probe into the incident and said the international community must exert pressure to ensure civilians are protected in Yemen

“This violence against civilians in Yemen must stop immediately,” he added, as reported by Yemeni sources.

UN relief chief Stephen O’Brien also demanded a prompt and “impartial” probe into the incident, saying, “This horrendous and heinous attack displayed an utter disregard for human life.

Riyadh’s key ally Washington warned it had launched an “immediate review” of support to the Arab coalition.

“We are deeply disturbed by reports of today’s air strike on a funeral hall in Yemen, which, if confirmed, would continue the troubling series of attacks striking Yemeni civilians,” White House National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.

“In light of this and other recent incidents, we have initiated an immediate review of our already significantly reduced support to the Saudi-led coalition and are prepared to adjust our support so as to better align with US principles, values and interests.”

Price stressed that “US security cooperation with Saudi Arabia is not a blank cheque”, and called on all sides to implement an “immediate” ceasefire, AFP reported.

Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between forces allied with fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and Houthis since 2014. Since March 2015, the Saudi-led coalition of mostly Persian Gulf countries has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at the request of Hadi.

Iran Condemns Saudis’ Deadly Attack on Civilians in Yemen

Warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition targeted a crowded funeral ceremony in Sana’a and killed at least 100 people, media reports said on Saturday.

At least nine airstrikes were conducted by Saudi jets on Khamis street in southern Sana’a. The building where the event was underway was seriously damaged in the attacks.

Over 500 people have reportedly been injured but the number of casualties is highly likely to rise.

The funeral was for the father of Jalal al-Roweishan, the interior minister in the Yemeni government.

The Iranian spokesman deplored “the Saudi crimes against humanity” in Yemen, and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims.

Pointing to one and half year of violence and aggression against Yemeni resisting people, Qassemi blasted the silence shown by the international community about the issue.

He also called for an immediate end to the Saudi aggression against Yemen and the start of serious talks among all Yemeni parties in a bid to end the crisis in Yemen.

Iran’s President Visits Thailand for ACD Summit

rouhani

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha received the Iranian president in a formal welcome ceremony, followed by a meeting of high-ranking delegations.

Heading a political and business team, the Iranian president embarked on a tour of Southeast Asia on Wednesday that took him earlier to Vietnam and Malaysia.

In Thailand, President Rouhani is going to deliver a speech at the ACD summit and meet foreign leaders on the sidelines of the conference.

The president has announced earlier that Iran, which has been a member of ACD for 12 years, is pursuing stronger cooperation among the Asian countries to consolidate Asia’s position as a major trade partner among the other economic powers.

The summit, entitled “One Asia, Diverse Strength”, is held on October 8-10. Currently, ACD comprises 34 countries, including Iran, China, India, Japan, Russia and Turkey.
