French Tourist: I Feel More Safe in Iran than in France

“I only knew Iran through the image the government presents in the media,” said Magali Magnim, a 33-year-old video technician from Lyon, France.

According to a report covered by Resalat newspaper, she and two friends were in Isfahan, one of Iran’s most historic cities, as part of a three-week tour. “But everything is so different from what I expected.”

What surprised her was that it felt safe. “Here on the streets, I feel more safe here than in France,” Ms. Magnim said. “I feel everybody I meet can be trusted.”

Iran Crowned at Pahlavani Wrestling World Championship

The Iranian outfit stood on top of the podium with a total of six (four gold, one silver and one bronze) medals, having collected 57 points. Turkey finished in the second place, and Russia landed in the third spot.

On Saturday, Hamid Elahian won the yellow metal after overcoming Russian competitor Imam Adzhiev in the final bout of 70-kilogram weight category.

Additionally, in the men’s 90-kilogram division, Esmaeil Nejatian got the better of Turkish rival Ahmet Bilici in the final contest to add another gold to the Islamic Republic’s medal tally at the tournament.

Javad Mahjoub and Ahmad Mirzapour also managed to clinch two more gold medals in the 100-kilogram and over 100-kilogram weight divisions, respectively.

Jalal Alizadeh , who had prevailed over Georgian, Belarusian and Kazakh wrestlers in the march to the final contest of 60-kilogram weight category, was downed by technical fall to Azerbaijani opponent Jalal Suleymanov and received the silver medal.

Ahmad Jafakesh also claimed a bronze medal in the 80-kilogram weight section.

The first edition of Pahlavani Wrestling World Championship opened in the Belarusian capital of Minsk on November 10 and finished on November 13, 2016.

The tournament attracted wrestlers from 45 world countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cuba, Estonia, France, Georgia, Hungary, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, the United States and Uzbekistan.

Iran’s President Inaugurates Oil Projects in Southwestern Province

During a visit to the central train station at the provincial capital of Ahwaz, President Rouhani launched a modern train control and monitoring system.

The new system, which cost $80 million to develop, will improve the security of railroad transportation between Ahwaz and Tehran.

In a separate ceremony, the president inaugurated a project for development of Yadavaran oil field in the energy-rich province.

According to reports, Iran’s oil extraction from Yadavaran -in cooperation with China’s Sinopec- has reached the record high of 115,000 barrels a day.

Separately, the president launched a project through video conference on development of a number of oil fields located in the western banks of the Karun River.

Expansion of the northern and southern Azadegan oil fields, as well as Yadavaran and north Yadavaran fields, are expected to raise Iran’s crude output by 300,000 bpd.

The last project inaugurated by President Rouhani on Sunday was one to channel fresh water to Dasht-e Azadegan in Khuzestan Province. The project will supply drinking water to residents of 7 towns and 50 villages in the region.

The province of Khuzestan, neighboring Iraq and lying on the Persian Gulf coasts, is a major oil and gas producing region in Iran.

Iran Expects Six-Fold Rise in Foreign Investments

Foreign investments in Iran for each Persian calendar year (starting 21 March) stood at about $2 billion, Feriyal Mostofi said.

He added that once contracts between Iranian and foreign firms are finalized, the Islamic Republic will attract $10 billion to $12 billion of foreign investments, according to Press TV.

Based on figures released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Iran attracted $2.05 billion and $2.10 billion in 2015 and 2014.

Iran had been off limits to global investors as a result of anti-Tehran sanctions that banned major investments in the country, specifically in its oil and gas industries that provide the lifeline of its national revenues.

The sanctions were removed after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 finalized a lasting nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.

Korea to Construct Neuroscience Hospital in Tehran

The hospital is reportedly scheduled to be built in three years in District 4 of Tehran. In addition to Iranian doctors, experienced Korean specialists and nurses will also be employed in this hospital.

Iraqi Army Retakes Ancient City of Nimrud from ISIS

According to a report covered by Al Alam, an Iraqi spokesman said in a statement, “Troops from the Ninth Armoured Division liberated Nimrud town completely and raised the Iraqi flag above its buildings”.

The modern city lies just 1km from the ruins of the ancient Assyrian capital.

It is the latest loss for the terror group as the Iraqi army continues to progress towards the Syrian border.

The battle for Iraq’s second city, Mosul, has raged for weeks as ISIS attempt to defend their positions with up to a million civilians at risk of being displaced by the fighting.

 

Parliament OK’s Iran’s Accession to Paris Climate Agreement

According to a report by ISNA, as translated by IFP, 149 Iranian MPs voted in favour of Iran’s accession to Paris Agreement.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had signed the historic Paris Agreement on climate change during a ceremony at the United Nations headquarters in New York back in April.

The agreement, reached in Paris in December 2015, can now require countries to fulfil the promises they made to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

China and the US, which together account for 38 percent of global emissions, had pledged to formally adopt the deal by the end of the year.

However, it is reported that the US President-elect Donald Trump is seeking quick ways of withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement in defiance of widening international backing for the plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Reuters has reported that since Trump was chosen, governments ranging from China to small island states have reaffirmed support for the 2015 Paris agreement at 200-nation climate talks running until 18 November in Marrakesh, Morocco.

But, according to Reuters, a source in the Trump transition team said the victorious Republican, who has called global warming a hoax, was considering ways to bypass a theoretical four-year procedure for leaving the accord.

“It was reckless for the Paris agreement to enter into force before the election,” said the source, who works on Trump’s transition team for international energy and climate policy, speaking on condition of anonymity. The Paris agreement went into force on 4 November, four days before last Tuesday’s election.

The Paris deal, agreed by 195 countries plus the European Union, sets the objective of curbing global warming to “well below” two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels, by moving to clean energy.

The first quarter of the current year broke temperature records, and the last year was the hottest year since record-keeping began in the 19th century.

The UN’s former climate agreement, the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, came into force in 2005. It dictated cuts in greenhouse gas emissions only for developed countries, unlike the Paris Agreement that involves both developed and developing countries, and allows all states to set national targets.

Senior Iranian Conservative Urges Trump to Get Rid of Iran Deal

In an article in Kayhan newspaper entitled “The Fabricated Fear”, Hossein Shariatmadari said it is “a great achievement” that Trump fulfils the promises he made during his campaign and rid the Iranian nation of the nuclear deal signed with world powers back in July 2015.

According to the report translated by IFP, Shariatmadari stressed that the nuclear deal is “total damage” for Iran, and Trump should tear it apart to rid Iran of the ‘futile’ agreement.
