Iran to Resume Gas Exports to Turkey Soon

gas

Sadeq Akbarpour, the head of Gas Exports Measurement Facilities at Iran-Turkey Border, told the domestic media that the required coordination is being carried out with the Turkish Botas company to resume Iran’s exports by next Monday.

Akbarpour emphasized that Iran is ready to supply Turkey with its required gas whenever it voices its readiness.

Majid Bojarzadeh, the spokesman of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), also told Iran’s Shana news agency that Ankara had informed Tehran of a problem in the pipeline that carried Iranian gas into Turkey on Thursday night.

Furthermore, Majid Aqababaei, the director general for border affairs of Iran’s Interior Ministry, acknowledged, as reported by Shana, that an explosion near Iran’s border had caused the problem.

Iran is Turkey’s second supplier of gas after Russia, providing one-fifth of the country’s consumption. The current volume of natural gas that Iran is piping to its northwestern neighbor is 30 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d).  Officials in Tehran had already emphasized that the Islamic Republic is ready to increase its gas exports to Turkey by 6 mcm/d.

Iran has also for long been working on a plan to export its natural gas to Europe through Turkey. The plan – that was to be carried out though the Nabucco scheme – was eventually put on hold due to a series of technicalities.  Nevertheless, officials in Tehran announced last month that the possibility that gas exports to Europe would return to the agenda exist “if the requited agreements with Europeans countries over the plan are reached”.

Iran to Open Tourism Office in Russia

Speaking to Tasnim, deputy head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), Morteza Rahmani, said the Iranian office will be inaugurated in Moscow by next March.

He said the organization is now looking for a competent pick to be in charge of the “Visit Iran” office in Moscow, hoping to attract Russian travelers to Iranian tourist destinations.

Russia opened its tourism office in Tehran in February 2016, in a ceremony attended by Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan, Head of the Russian Government’s Federal Agency for Tourism Oleg Safonov, Chairman of the State Committee on Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Sergey Ivanov, and Dagestan’s Minister of Tourism Magomed Isayev.

US Faces Growing Worldwide Wrath: Iranian Cleric

Emami Kashani

37 years after victory of the Islamic Revolution, when only the Iranian nation rose against the US tyranny, people in other countries such as Iraq, Bahrain, Yemen and Syria are now filled with anger at the US criminal acts that are carried out by mercenaries in their countries, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani told worshipers at Friday Prayers in Tehran.

“The wrath (at the US) has become global,” the cleric added, saying Washington and the Zionist regime of Israel are behind the atrocities against Muslim nations.

On November 4, 1979, and in less than a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution that toppled a US-backed monarchy, Iranian university students that called themselves “students following the line of (the late) Imam (Khomeini)” seized the US embassy in Tehran, which had become a center of espionage and planning to overthrow the newly established Islamic system in Iran.

Every year on the 13th day of the Iranian month of Aban (November 4), the Iranian nation, particularly the students, hold rallies across the country to mark the day.

Elsewhere in his comments, Ayatollah Emami Kashani lashed out at the US presidential candidates for deviation from the religious values and boasting about crimes against the oppressed instead of coping with the US internal affairs.

His comments came after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei denounced the US presidential candidates for their comments during the debates.

“The (ongoing) election campaigns in America and issues raised by the two candidates constitute a clear and evident example of the consequences of lack of spirituality and faith among those in power,” the Leader said on October 20.

“During the coming weeks, one of these two candidates of America’s (presidential) election, whose remarks and condition you observe, will become the president of a country which has power and wealth and the biggest amount of nuclear weapons as well as the biggest media in the world,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The US presidential election will be held on November 8.

Iranian Ex-Envoy Warns against US Plots to Hijack Mosul Operation

Iraqi army

Forces taking part in the operation are namely the Iraqi army, anti-terrorism forces, the federal police, and Kurdish Peshmarga forces and the Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd al-Shaabi), Kazemi Qomi told the Tasnim news agency on Friday.

He added that the operation is being carried out under the command of the Iraqi government not Washington, stressing that the US is trying to pretend that it is the one that is leading the Arab country’s military to victory.

According to reports, the presence of the international coalition forces is meant only for intelligence exchange, carrying out airstrikes against ISIS (Daesh or ISIS) and training and arming Iraqi forces.

The Iranian envoy further said recent remarks made by senior Iraqi officials that there was no need for foreign troops on the Arab country’s soil conveyed a clear message to the US and Turkey that the Iraqi army can take care of the Mosul operation single-handedly.

Elsewhere in his comments, he said the Iraqi forces are closing in on the ISIS terrorists from four directions at a slow pace taking into account the safety of civilians trapped in the city.

The Iraqi army launched the offensive on October 17 aimed at wresting Mosul from the hands of ISIS and is now edging closer to Mosul by liberating villages around the city. Nearly 80 ISIS-held towns and villages have been retaken by the army since the Iraqi forces began the battle to liberate Mosul last week.

Iran Raps ‘Rare’ EU Clauses in Trade Deals

Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan

Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan, Iran’s deputy minister of roads and urban development, told the Financial Times that European government should prevent the inclusion of what he described as “very exceptional terms and conditions” in trade agreements with Iran.

Fakhrieh Kashan warned that such terms and conditions were effectively discouraging investments in the Iranian economy.

He said export credit agencies were specifically demanding premiums on insurance that made banks insist on putting what he described as “unacceptable terms” in contracts related to “political risk” in doing business with Iran.

Fakhrieh Kashan emphasized that Iran will not accept any clauses in trade agreements which he said foresee such possibilities like snapback sanctions and new sanctions against Iran.

European businesses, he said, are in fact trying to devise deals in which political risks are inserted alongside commercial risks – what he said is totally rejected by the Islamic Republic.

If anyone needed guarantees against political risks, it was Iran, Fakhrieh Kashan said in reference to the impact of western sanctions on the Iranian economy.

“Why should Iran accept very exceptional terms and conditions in its contracts with European companies? This is not called a normal relationship,” he said.

Fakhrieh Kashan emphasized that European countries should take the adequate measures to prevent their businesses from including political risk in contracts, warning that any failure to do so will be against the nuclear agreement with Iran.

“This is where European countries are failing to be committed to the nuclear agreement. One of the main reasons the signing of contracts in various sectors has been delayed is this issue.”

Last summer, Iran signed a historic deal with the US, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany – the so-called P5+1 group – based on which it agreed to restrict certain aspects of its nuclear energy activities.  The P5+1 in return agreed to lift certain economic sanctions imposed against the Islamic Republic.

Comprehensive Int’l Resolve, Key to Fight against Terrorism: Zarif

zarif

On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian and Syrian counterparts, Sergei Lavrov and Walid Muallem, gathered in Moscow for a three-way meeting.

Speaking after the meeting, Zarif said Tehran, Moscow and Damascus should reinforce their cooperation in the campaign against terrorism.

He stressed the importance of adopting strategies to stop the delivery of weapons and military equipment to the foreign-backed Takfiri [extremist] militants wreaking havoc in Syria.

“The political settlement of the crisis in Syria will be possible through negotiations between the sides in order to put an end to this crisis,” Zarif said, as reported by Press TV.

The three foreign ministers agreed to intensify the fight against terrorism and said their countries have a common stance on the anti-terror campaign in the region, particularly in Syria.

Lavrov said Iran, Russia and Syria have devised necessary steps for fighting terrorism and expressed their readiness to take measures that will play a key role in the campaign against the malicious phenomenon.

The Russian foreign minister added that the Moscow meeting highlighted the significance of a firm and efficient battle against terrorism in the Middle East, particularly in Syria.

He said the meeting’s participants also discussed ways to send humanitarian aid to civilians in Syria and stop the flow of weapons into the hands of terrorists operating in the war-hit country.

Muallem, for his part, said the US is making no effort to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

The Syrian foreign minister added that a recent agreement between Washington and Moscow, signed in the Swiss city of Geneva in September, failed to bear any fruit.

After marathon talks in Geneva, US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart reached an agreement on September 10 to impose a ceasefire in the Syrian city of Aleppo and to coordinate military operations against terrorist groups in the country.

Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city, remains divided between government forces in the west and foreign-backed terrorists in the east, making it a front-line battleground.

Russia, which has been conducting an aerial military campaign against extremist militants in Syria, has repeatedly voiced its readiness for a ceasefire. Russia has been insisting, however, that any such lull in fighting should be accompanied with a meticulous separation of terrorists from less extremist militants fighting against the Syrian government.

The Syrian foreign minister said Washington is not interested in solving the crisis in Damascus and takes measures only to serve the its own interests and those of its regional allies.

Since March 2011, Syria has been hit by militancy it blames on some Western states and their regional allies. Backed by the Russian air cover, the Syrian military is engaged in an operation to rid the country of ISIS and other terrorist groups.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura have put the death toll from the Syria conflict at more than 300,000 and 400,000, respectively.

This is while the UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.

Over the past few weeks, the Syrian forces have wrested control of several areas across the war-torn country as they press ahead with their counter-terrorism operations.

Iran, Russia Share Strong Anti-Terror Stance: Zarif

Meanwhile, in a meeting with his Russian counterpart earlier on Friday, the Iranian foreign minister said Tehran and Moscow have “tough stances in the fight against terrorism in the region through common strategies.”

“Tehran and Moscow have broad cooperation on regional issues such as the campaign against terrorism and extremism and we share views [on these matters],” Zarif added.

He also noted that Iran and Russia have succeeded in making considerable progress in all fields including in economic and political sectors as well as regional and international developments.

“I am pleased that in recent years relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation, as two good neighbors and two key players, have made many positive developments,” Zarif said.

Lavrov, for his part, said Tehran and Moscow urged cooperation on an unrelenting approach to terrorists operating against the Syrian government.

Iran and Russia have similar stances on the ongoing deadly crisis in Syria. Moscow and Tehran reject any foreign interference in the affairs of the war-hit country, stressing that only the Syrians are entitled to decide their own fate.

Iran has been providing military advisory assistance to the Syrian government in its campaign against terrorism.

Iran, Syria FMs Discuss Anti-Terror Cooperation

Also in Moscow on Friday, the Iranian and Syrian foreign ministers held bilateral talks about ways to improve cooperation on the battle against terrorism in Syria and the status quo in the region.

Zarif and Muallem stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation among Tehran, Moscow and Damascus to eradicate terrorism.

Pakistani Journalist Writes about His Visit to Iran

Pakistani Journalist

“I wish Pakistanis were united too and they would think of their country’s national interests only; free from conflicts.” These are the words of Alireza Alavi, the editor-in-chief of Pakistan’s APP, the premier government news agency, who visited the three Iranian cities of Mashhad, Qom and Tehran during his first visit to the country.

Alavi, who has been impressed by the determination and unity among followers of different religions and groups of people in Iran, says his words in his article were straight from his heart.

Here is IFP’s translation of excerpts from his article published by IRNA.

I shall start with the fact that Iran is the land of Salman al-Farsi, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and many greats such as Khayyam, Saadi, Hafez, Ferdowsi, Shaykh Tusi and Shaykh Tabarsi.

Governments in Iran have always been interwoven with a spiritual aspect since tens of years ago. Western powers on the other hands have always been brewing plots to impede the progress of this country.

Iran scored a diplomatic victory in the nuclear talks to lift the sanctions imposed on it and expedite the achievement of economic prosperity.

Iran’s progress in the fields of medicine, science, information technology and nanotechnology is amazing. I witnessed the rapid growth and prosperity in this country; Imam Khomeini International Airport with its modern design and facilities such as metro lines, bus transportation systems, variety of development projects, infrastructure and construction of tall building.

These are all despite an eight-year-long war. Iranians, however, never wavered in their resolute determination to tread on the path of progress and development of good relations with neighboring countries.

Significant participation of women in the society, particularly their presence in managerial positions, private sector, airports, shops, trading centers and so on and so forth is admirable. Hijab never hinders the activity of female journalists in any way.

Irane-Sepid (white Iran) which is a braille newspaper for blind people caught me by surprise. I had a meeting with a senior official from Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance who said that over 200 newspapers and 7,000 magazines are published in the country.

Astan Quds Razavi is an autonomous charitable foundation in Mashhad which manages the Imam Reza shrine. I had a meeting with the foundation’s authorities and they said nearly 25 to 27 million pilgrims visit the Shrine each year, from which 200,000 are from Pakistan. Mashhad, which was the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2005, has been selected once again for the second time in 2017.

I visited an advisor to the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and he highlighted the significance of Chabahar and Gwadar ports to promote peace and prosperity for the region. These two ports are in no way against each other; they collaborate with each other.

Iranian authorities stressed that strengthening ties with Pakistan is a priority for their country.

Before I see Iran for myself, I had a preconception that Iran belongs to only one religious sect; however, it proved otherwise. Iranians are only concerned about their country’s progress and unity. I wish we would follow the same approach in Pakistan.

Pictures of young Saudi female models posing in front of the pavilion of a luxurious car company at a local show went viral on social media, prompting a punitive action from the Kingdom authorities.

Saudi authorities say organizers of a motor show have violated the principles of the Islamic Shariah by using young models.

Saudi National Program for Conventions and Exhibitions has taken penal action against the organizer of the 10th edition of the Luxury Motor Show (EXCS), Jeddah for a number of violations, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

According to a report by Asr-e Iran, as translated by IFP, four female models have already been arrested as of Saturday.

The program has found the organizer guilty of violating the principles of the Islamic Shariah and the Saudi customs and traditions as well as the regulations of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.

The Program emphasized that the Islamic values and customs shall be fully adhered to while organizing any exhibitions and conventions as well as the regulations for issuing licenses for holding exhibitions and events, Samaa TV reported.

Earlier, the Jeddah Police detained officials of the Motor Show organizing company and some other car companies as part of their investigation into the violations. This was in line with a directive from Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah and advisor to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, SPA reported.

According to reports, the organizers of the show, which opened on Tuesday in Jeddah, had reportedly violated the principles of the Islamic Shariah and the Saudi customs and traditions. An investigation into the violations has been launched following the pictures of young Saudi women models posing in front of the pavilion of a luxurious car company at the show went viral on social media.

Iraqi Federal Police Forces Reach Gates of Mosul

mosul-2

The Federal Police command announced that its forces have reached the entrances to Mosul, the Arabic-language al-Forat news agency reported.

According to a security source in Nineveh Province, the forces of the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service have arrived in neighborhoods about four kilometers from downtown Mosul.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Rasool said the Hashd al-Shaabi troops plan to open a new front in Mosul, without giving further details.

The Iraqi army launched the offensive on October 16 aimed at wresting Mosul from the hands of Daesh.

“The time has come for the greatest victory,” Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on the same day on state TV. “I announce the start of Liberating Mosul Operation, by the will of Iraqis, and after depending on Allah.”

Al-Abadi said that Daesh would be “punished” for its crimes and that the province’s cities and villages will be rebuilt.

In recent years, Iraq has been facing the threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the Daesh terrorist group.

Daesh militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.

However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, blunted the edge of Daesh offensive.
