The two sides also conferred on the growing threats against smaller countries in the region, from Yemen to Qatar, and the roles of Oman and Kuwait in the process of restoring peace and stability to the Middle East.

The Omani foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Wednesday night for a two-day visit.

US Divisive Plots Foiled by Mosul Liberation: Iranian General

General Massoud Jazayeri

“Regional nations will counter any act of aggression and crush enemies of any size,” Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said on Tuesday.

He added that the move to drive out the mercenaries of the US and reactionary countries in the region from Iraq would be repeated in Syria and Yemen as well as other war-stricken states.

“Violent terrorism in the region is not something different from US proxy wars and this is the reason that the terrorists’ defeat in major parts of Iraq, particularly in Mosul, is regarded as the US defeat in the region and this means the victory of resistance,” the Iranian commander pointed out.

Jazayeri offered his congratulations to the Iraqi military and Popular Mobilization Forces over their victory against Daesh and other terrorist groups in Mosul.

This victory would be the beginning of greater achievements and efforts to maintain Iraq’s territorial integrity, he said.

Delivering a formal statement aired by the state television on Monday, Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi formally declared the victory of the country’s forces over the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in Mosul, one day after Iraqi military and Popular Mobilization Forces took full control of the city.

The recapture of Mosul marks the biggest blow to the Takfiri extremist group since it declared its so-called caliphate three years ago.

Abadi’s statement came after Iraqi forces mopped up the last pockets of Daesh resistance in Mosul’s Old City, where the Takfiri terrorists were surrounded in a sliver of territory about 200 by 100 meters.

‘Al Saud Likely behind Cholera Outbreak in Yemen’

“Any crime is expected from the enemies and in the meantime, the blows that the Saudi-UAE attacks have dealt on the Yemeni nation have had more (destructive) effects than nuclear or biological attacks,” Yasser al-Houri said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency.

“That is why the Yemeni officials have obliged the involved parties to investigate and identify the source of the outbreak of the disease,” he said, adding, “We are waiting for the results of the investigation.”

The Yemeni official further said the number of deaths by the cholera outbreak has reached about 1,700 people, adding the cases of the disease also amount to hundreds of thousands.

According to the World Health Organization, Yemen is facing the “world’s worst cholera outbreak”.

More than 200,000 suspected cases of cholera have been recorded in the war-torn country and as many as 300,000 people could become infected by the end of August, Margaret Chan, WHO’s director-general, said in a recent statement.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the Saudi-led coalition for more than two years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to Hadi.

Over 12,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.

Iran Blasts US Defence Secretary’s ‘Baseless’ Claims

Islamic Republic of Iran rejects the baseless and interventionist remarks made by US Defence Secretary James Mattis on “regime change” in the country, Qassemi said in a statement on Tuesday.

Today’s regional and international terrorism and extremism are deeply rooted in Washington’s unconsidered policy of supporting the sponsors of terrorism as well as the Israeli regime’s state terrorism, he noted.

Qassemi categorically rejected the ‘baseless’ and ‘imaginary’ US plot to embroil the Islamic Republic in the assassination case of a foreign ambassador in Washington, saying the US itself was behind the terrorist attack on the ambassador.

“This is not the first time that the US Defence Secretary is accusing Iran and its democratic Establishment of sponsoring terrorism. This comes as the US and its Defence Secretary are the very epitome of terrorism and violation of human rights,” he added.

“The people of the region and the world have not yet forgotten their role in the massacre of innocent Iraqis in Fallujah and Haditha,” he went on to say.

The spokesperson pointed to Washington’s worn-out policy of sowing the seeds of discord between the Iranian nation and government over the past decades and stressed that such ploys are futile.

“The US Secretary of Defence tries to portray the Islamic Republic of Iran as an unpopular government by closing his eyes to the huge and glorious turnout of the Iranians (over 70 percent) in the recent presidential election,” Qassemi said.

Rather, he added, the US supports regimes in the Middle East and the world which have never heard anything about democracy and elections.

Qassemi’s remarks came after Mattis said regime change will be necessary before the United States and Iran could have positive relations.

He further claimed that any potential rapprochement would be difficult because Iran “is not really a democracy”.

Mattis accused Iran of supporting terrorism, and said that the Iranian “regime” was his “biggest problem” when he headed the US Central Command.

President Rouhani under Pressure on Cabinet Line-Up

President Rouhani who was reelected in the presidential election in May is expected to announce his new cabinet in the next couple of weeks. With the grassroots support of 24 million of Iranians, he is now set to form a new cabinet. Over the past two months, a large number of speculations have been raised about the line-up of his cabinet.

But at the same time, Rouhani has come under pressure by both camps to include their proposed candidates in his cabinet. As the moderate politicians call for an efficient cabinet, the radicals are seeking to claim more shares in the cabinet at the cost of national interests. They have no hesitation in exerting more pressure on Rouhani to achieve their goals.

16 Million Votes as Yardstick

In the latest presidential election in May, the Conservative camp managed to garner 16 million votes. Now, they rely on these votes to claim their shares in the new cabinet. This comes as the moderate conservatives advise President Rouhani to set up a cabinet spanning both camps. They also call on him to continue to adopt his moderate political manner in the next government.

But the radicals of the Conservative camp have had no hesitation in using any tactics to tarnish the image of President Rouhani since May 19. They want to open their way into the next cabinet and maintain that Rouhani is not allowed to close his eyes on the 16 million voters who cast their ballots to his main rival, Ebrahim Raisi, during the presidential election in May. They have warned that President Rouhani’s next government would be hampered if their demands are not met. The warnings seem far from a public benevolence.

Former Vice-President under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Seyyed Mohammad Reza Mir-Tajeddini, is among the radical conservatives who maintain that the 16 million votes reveal that a large fraction of the nation is not satisfied with the performance of Rouhani’s government.

In an interview with the Khabar Online news website, he said Rouhani is now the president of all Iranians. So, he should form a cabinet spanning all people including those who did not vote for him. In other words, he should not form the cabinet based on factional interests.

Hamid Reza Taraqqi, a member of the conservative Islamic Coalition Party, has expressed doubt about the inclusive nature of Rouhani’s next government and said the condition of the Conservative camp is not going to get better in the next cabinet.

We Supported, Now We Claim our Shares

The reformists also have their own demand. The camp put its heavy weight behind Rouhani during the last two presidential elections. Now, they view themselves as the main winners of the recent elections. Some of the main figures of this camp maintain that President Rouhani should form a relatively reformist cabinet without any hesitation. The radicals of this camp say it is not a matter of claiming shares, but a reasonable expectation.

“The voters who cast their ballot for Rouhani expect him to fulfil his pledges and appoint more reformist figures to his cabinet,” he said.

Some other figures like senior academic Sadeq Zibakalam maintain that Rouhani should form his cabinet regardless of partisan interests. This comes as there are other reformists who are dissatisfied with Rouhani for not meeting their demands by appointing more reformist figures to key posts in his government.

Now these reformists are exerting pressure on Rouhani to meet their demands. Some of them made harsh criticisms of Rouhani four years ago for appointing figures like the conservative politician Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli to the key post of Interior Minister. Today, they say the president should appoint reformist governors in all provinces.

Political figures like Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mahmoud Vaezi, believe that the reformists are not claiming shares in the new cabinet for their support during presidential campaign.

Vice-President Masoumeh Ebtekar argues this is the conservatives who are claiming shares in the cabinet rather than reformists. On the other hand, some leading reformist figures like senior lawmaker Mohammad Reza Aref say having most key posts in the cabinet is the natural right of the reformists because they played a key role in Rouhani’s reelection providing him with a huge social investment.

Mahmoud Mirlohi, another reformist activist, who echoes the same idea, is amazed to see that the conservatives who did their best not to allow Rouhani to gain power now expect him to provide them with posts in his cabinet.

Final Decision for Moderate Cabinet

Time is running out for Rouhani. As the leader of the new cabinet, he has not yet commented on the possible line-up of his cabinet. He has just vowed to put together a young cabinet. He is now fully aware that the pressure from the two camps are set to increase day by day. As the president, he has no way but to make a major decision under huge pressures. It seems he has to brace himself for more sabotage by the radicals of both sides.

Four years ago, he adopted a moderate manner in appointing his ministers. It seems he is going to continue the manner in forming the new cabinet. President Rouhani has proved that he makes his own decision regardless of outside pressures.

Traces of Feathered Dinosaur Found in Iran

Traces of Feathered Dinosaur Found in Iran

The Associate Professor of Zanjan University, Nasrollah Abbasi, says drawing on the recent discovery of a rich collection of dinosaurs’ traces in the Central Alborz Mountains, Iranian scientists along with their counterparts from Beijing and Colorado universities have found traces of feathered dinosaurs in Iran.

In a Farsi interview with ISNA, Abbasi said that the latest research shows that the extinct reptiles in Iran included feathered dinosaurs from running dinosaurs species.

“In cooperation with Lida Xing from Beijing University’s Geology College and Martin Lockley from Colorado University, we studied the sedimentary rocks in Baladeh region of Mazandaran Province [in northern Iran] and found the traces of two-fingered dinosaurs which belonged to feathered dinosaurs species,” he said.

Abbasi went on saying that the traces date back to 179 million years ago.

“The discovery is significant for two main reasons: First, it proves that Iran used to host feathered dinosaurs in the past, and second, it sheds light on some vague issues regarding the lives of two-fingered dinosaurs.”

According to Abbasi, this is the fourth largest discovery in this field across the world which provides the scientists with some clues to understand the ambiguous points about dinosaur species in Iran.

The findings have been published by Historical Biology Magazine, he concluded.

‘Iran Played Key Role in Liberation of Mosul’

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, an international advisor to Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, has noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran played a key role in achieving victory in Mosul.

He has also talked about the time when the ISIS terrorists seized the northern Iraqi city and sent their first diplomatic notes to Western embassies.

The following are highlights of the comments he made in a Monday televised interview:

*The Islamic Republic of Iran played a key role in achieving victory in Mosul. *Security organizations in the region and beyond had been planning to create a new version of the Hezbollah movement.

*ISIS was supposed to be Washington and Riyadh’s effective arm in the region. *For the first time after the fall of Mosul, ISIS sent official diplomatic notes to Western embassies.

*The Americans’ problems with former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki was that he had a proper understanding of Washington’s plan to dominate Iraq.

*Iran was once offered to stop supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, so that they [the West] would finish the war in Syria.

*The US did nothing to rid Iraq of ISIS, and it is doing the same thing in Syria. *Some urban managers in Mosul turned traitor, and some officials of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region connived at ISIS atrocities.

*Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has always stressed that “whatever we do in Iraq should benefit all [Iraqi] people with whatever religion.”

*We witnessed the greatest American-Kurdish-Arab-Israeli betrayal in ISIS’ attack on Erbil.

Israel Plotting to Create Greater Kurdistan: Turkish Official

Israel Plotting to Create Greater Kurdistan Turkish Official

During a recent visit to Tehran, Perinçek referred to the Israeli plot to separate Kurdish areas and form a greater country of Kurdistan, and said, “Our Turkish Kurd brothers will not play any role in this plot despite the Zionists’ measures.”

He made the remarks on Monday after a meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, an international advisor to Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Iran, Turkey and western Asia are dealing with complicated developments, he said, according to IRNA.

He went on to say that the US and Israel are threatening the regional countries’ territorial integrity and the Zionist regime is trying to create another Israel, which is called greater Kurdistan.

The plan is called Greater Kurdistan Project and it has nothing to do with Kurds, but is only a US-Israel weapon, he noted, adding that Washington and Tel Aviv will not succeed in implementing such plan.

The US and Israeli threats will bring Tehran and Ankara closer, and we are certain that Iran also trusts its Turkish brothers, Perinçek said.

“We will restore peace to West Asia region,” he added.

Last year, Massoud Sadr-Mohammadi, an expert in Turkish and Caucasian affairs, had also warned against the plot hatched by Israel and the US to disintegrate the Middle East and create tension and instability in the region by abusing Kurdish people.

Mattis’ Anti-Iran Remarks Made in Delirium: DM

General Hossein Dehqan

In response to the ‘blatant’ and ‘meddlesome’ statements by James Mattis regarding the need for a regime change in Iran, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan advised Washington to think of a solution for its own domestic issues.

“Instead of making decisions for other countries, James Mattis and other US officials had better resolve their domestic problems. They’d better examine the underlying causes that will likely overthrow the incumbent US government. These issues will pose a challenge to the country’s political system as well,” General Dehqan added.

“The arrogant and bullying nature [of the United States], besides the neglect of other nations’ power and Washington’s denial of historical events, have caused people like Mattis to lose rationality. Such statements are similar to those made by a sick person during fits of delirium,” he concluded.

Dehqan’s remarks came after US Secretary of Defence said regime change will be necessary before the United States and Iran could have positive relations.

Mattis also said that any potential rapprochement would be difficult because Iran is not really a democracy.

He added that the Iranian “regime” was his “biggest problem” while he headed US Central Command.

“Iran is certainly the most destabilizing influence in the Middle East,” Mattis claimed in his recent remarks.
