Syria Teaches Israel a Lesson by Shooting Down Its Jet: Iran

Signs of US Decline Clearer Than Ever: Iran Official

Speaking on the sidelines of the massive rallies in Tehran marking the 39th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Revolution on Sunday, Secretary of Iran’s National Security Council Ali Shamkhani rejected the Israeli officials’ baseless claim about the flight of an Iranian drone in the Golan Heights.

“It is nonsense because no one uses an F-16 jet to target a drone” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by Fars News Agency.

He also dismissed Tel Aviv’s claim that Israeli warplanes have managed to target an Iranian-Syrian base inside Syria. He underlined Iran only has an advisory presence in Syria.

Earlier on Friday, the Syrian military hit at least one Israeli warplane that attacked positions inside Syrian territory, sending it down in flames and smoke.

Syrian state TV cited a Syrian military official as saying that Syrian aerial defence had responded to Israeli “aggression” against an army base in central Syria.

Following the incident, the Israeli army said Tel Aviv held Iran directly responsible for the crash of its jet. “This is a serious Iranian attack on Israeli territory. Iran is dragging the region into an adventure in which it doesn’t know how it will end,” the army said in a statement.

Iran President Warns US against Pulling out of JCPOA

Addressing thousands of demonstrators at mass rallies in Tehran, marking the anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Revolution, Rouhani said the Islamic Republic will live up to its commitments under the JCPOA if only the other signatories to the deal deliver on their obligations.

“I’m announcing here, that our nation will remain committed to its obligations as long as the other parties keep their side of the bargain,” said the president.

President Rouhani further said that Washington’s possible withdrawal from the JCPOA will be to its own detriment.

“And I’m stressing again, that if they pull out of the agreement, they will soon suffer the harm from what they’ve done,” the president underlined.

President Rouhani further said the US wanted to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs, but the Iranian nation stood up to them and foiled Washington’s plots by maintaining their unity.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani touched upon the enemies’ conspiracy to disintegrate Iraq and Syria as well as Iran’s role in thwarting their plot.

“Conspirators wanted to shatter Iraq’s unity, but the Iraqi nation’s vigilance coupled with assistance from the regional countries secured the territorial integrity and national unity of our friendly countries in the region,” he said.

He then touched upon the Americans’ plot against Jerusalem al-Quds, Palestine and the nations in the region.

“They wanted to declare Beit-ul-Moqaddas as the capital of Zionists, but the world stood up to this conspiracy, and not only Muslim countries, but all other countries, except a few ones, opposed this US plot at the UN General Assembly,” he said.

President Rouhani also referred to Iran’s cooperation with other Middle Eastern countries to boost peace and stability in the region.

“We know the solution to the [problems facing the] region is a political one, and we should reinforce regional stability and security in cooperation with other countries,” he noted.

The president also touched upon Iran’s gains in fighting terrorists in the region, and said Tehran contributed to efforts to rid Iraqi and Syrian nations of terrorists.

Millions of Iranians Mark 39th Anniversary of 1979 Revolution (+Video)

Each year, Iranians take to the streets to mark the historic day, which id a national holiday in Iran. People take part in these rallies renew their allegiance to the Islamic establishment and Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic.

Journalists from two dozen countries are covering rallies in Tehran on Sunday, February 11. Some 125 reporters from 71 regional and international media outlets are providing coverage of the event, in which demonstrators march toward and finally converge on Azadi Square, a Tehran landmark, where Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to deliver a speech.

The journalists come from such countries as Austria, Spain, Australia, Afghanistan, the United States, Britain, Germany, Turkey, China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Syria, France, Palestine, Qatar, South Korea, Colombia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands and Yemen.

Moreover, more than 150 representatives of foreign media outlets stationed in Iran are covering the event through their Iran bureaus. They are using the news feed from local Iranian media or dispatch their own correspondents to provide coverage.

Iran’s state radio and TV (known as the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Broadcasting Organization or the IRIB) is providing blanket coverage of the rallies. The event will be beamed across the world via satellite, so that foreign media will be able to relay the broadcasts to their audience.

Similar rallies are being held in other towns and cities across the nation as well.

On 1 February 1979, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (1902-1989) returned to Tehran after a period of exile in France imposed by the despotic Shah of Iran, Muhammad Reza Pahlavi. Several million people went to Tehran International Mehrabad Airport to welcome him. Imam Khomeini then went to Behesht-e Zahra cemetery, where he delivered a historic speech. Imam Khomeini’s return was a catalyst for the Islamic Revolution, which finally emerged victorious ten days after his homecoming on February 11.

The causes of the accident that took place on Tai Po Road have not yet been identified, though there are some reports that the vehicle was going too fast.

Iran, Uzbekistan Stress Closer Cooperation on All Fronts

During the meeting held on Saturday, the two sides discussed ways of enhancing bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.

The discussions revolved around several issues, namely the signature of a comprehensive document on mutual cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, especially in the domain of energy (oil, natural gas and petrochemical activities), transit, rail transportation, consular services, tourism, etc.

The top diplomats also exchanged views on establishing more economical direct flights in order to encourage businesspeople and tourists of both countries to travel as well as expanding mutual banking cooperation.

Zarif and Kamilov also described as a common threat the activities of some terrorist groups, especially in Afghanistan, and discussed ways of working together to counter the scourge.

In the meeting, a joint letter of invitation from Uzbek and Afghan foreign ministers was handed over to Zarif, asking him to attend a conference on Afghanistan security scheduled to be held in Tashkent in late March or early April, 2018.

“Iran Nuclear Deal Could Make World Safer If US Remained Committed”

Speaking to a group of Tehran-based ambassadors and foreign guests on Saturday, Rouhani said by adopting the peace-oriented approach used to achieve the Iran nuclear deal, the region and the world can become more secure through deeper cooperation among states.

“Here, I want to explicitly announce that if other sides of the JCPOA, especially the US, remained committed to the nuclear deal, we would have a safer and more secure region and world with better political relations,” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by the Iranian president’s official website.

He went on to say that if the JCPOA had been implemented completely, Iran would be prepared to hold talks with the world powers over other significant and complicated issues.

“I openly state that the US will commit a strategic mistake if it continues to adopt a politically motivated approach towards the JCPOA and decides to withdraw from the international treaty. If this happens, the world will witness the US’ biggest mistake in its political relations in the world.”

He underlined that Iran has never violated its international commitments since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and expressed hope that the Iran nuclear deal doesn’t collapse and remain a leading role model for resolving regional and world problems.

Rouhani further noted that security is highly important for the new paradigm of security and economy in the region, adding problems like terrorism and separatism are among the main dangers threatening the region.

“Lack of security, foreign powers’ meddling in the region and the 70-year aggression of the Zionist regime, all in all, have hampered the development of the Middle East,” President Rouhani said.

He then added Iran can be the gate to a new Middle East and said the country enjoys high capacities for attracting foreign investments in all fields thanks to its high security, religious and cultural plurality and rich natural resources.

He called for regional cooperation to fight against insecurity and said it is a mistake to think that a state can make progress through strengthening terrorist groups, meddling in regional countries’ internal affairs or conducting airstrikes on its neighbours.

“Military tactics have never led to a lasting solution to the regional problems. Establishing dialogue and finding a political solution is the best way out of the current problems,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president said his country is ready to host foreign investors especially in the fields of oil and gas as well as tourism and mines.

He said over the past two years, Iran has signed significant MoUs and contracts with a number of countries in oil and gas fields and added the Islamic Republic is capable enough of attracting further investments for related projects.

Iran President’s Office Denies Reports of Secret Meeting with US Lawmakers

Iran’s Presidential Office has dismissed as baseless and sheer lies the claim that three US lawmakers secretly met and attended a dinner banquet with President Rouhani during his trip to New York in 2013.

“President Rouhani has numerous programs with political elites, [members of] think tanks, scholars of religious communities, and reporters during his annual visits to New York and the headquarters of the UN, and several dignitaries from inside or outside the United States take part in those meetings,” said Parviz Esmaili, the president’s deputy chief of staff for communications and information dissemination.

According to a Farsi report by Al-Alam news network, he added, “All the meetings and talks were announced [publicly] and no meetings were held secretly.”

He said a meeting attended by Islamic scholars and leaders of the Muslim community of the United States was held in 2013, and added all the news and images of the event were published at the time and are available at the president’s website.

“Each year when the president goes to the United Nations, numerous meetings are held with different ideological and political groups in line with public diplomacy and in order to send Iran’s messages and shed light on principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy. Many of them are held in plenary sessions and many officials participate,” he said.

He reiterated the allegation that President Rouhani had a secret meeting or dinner with American legislators is a sheer lie, and added, “Basically, when the president is on a visit to the UN headquarters, he only attends the dinner and intimate meeting with Iranian expats in the US.”

The president’s deputy chief of staff asked local media to remain vigilant and check the authenticity of such allegations with relevant authorities.

“Our country’s media are expected to trust official authorities in the country before relying on foreign news sources or trying to prove their claims,” he stressed.

Earlier, a news agency quoting Wall Street Journal published news suggesting three members of the US Congress had a secret dinner meeting with President Rouhani back in 2013.

US Bases in Mideast within Range of Iran Missiles: Top General

General Salami said on Saturday despite the US sanctions and pressures, the Islamic Republic of Iran managed to promote its military capabilities significantly.

“Today, thanks to God’s grace, we are powerful more than ever. The US’ weakness before Iran became clear when we arrested their marines in the Persian Gulf two years ago,” a Farsi report by Al-Alam quoted him as saying.

Addressing the Conference of Foreign Guests Participating in the Celebrations of Iran’s 1979 Revolution anniversary, General Salami said the US has failed in its projects in Syria.

“As you know well, the US, the UK and the Zionist regime as well other regional states like Saudi Arabia hatched up a dangerous plot through creating Takfiri groups in the Islamic world with two main goals in mind: First creating a civil war in the Muslim world through deviating their fight against arrogant foreign powers and second, portraying an ugly and violent image of Islam in the world.”

He said fortunately today the Muslim world from Shiites to Sunnis have got united in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Bahrain, Yemen and Azerbaijan against the enemies.

“Over the past four decades, since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the US has gained no significant achievement in the region,” he noted.

The senior commander said the Zionist regime has been created by the US and the UK, adding the Islamic Republic of Iran began to inflict heavy blows on the US since early years of the Islamic Revolution.

He then referred to the prediction of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution about the future of Israel, saying as the leader said the Zionist regime will collapse in less than 25 years by the Islamic nations.

Iran FM, Houthi Spokesman Discuss Yemen Crisis in Tehran

During the Saturday talks, the Yemeni spokesman briefed Zarif on the current situation in Yemen, particularly the country’s dire humanitarian conditions.

Zarif, for his part, pointed to Iran’s four-point plan to resolve the crisis in Yemen, and underlined the need for immediate cessation of the war on and bombardment of the Arab country.

He also pointed to the humanitarian disaster in Yemen caused by the continued unfair airstrikes of the Saudi-led coalition against Yemeni people, and highlighted the need for immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid to the Yemenis by the international community.

Last month, the UN called for what it referred to as a record $2.96 billion aid for war-ravaged Yemen, where Saudi airstrikes, looming famine, and a cholera epidemic have claimed the lives of thousands of people.

According to the World Health Organization’s latest count, the cholera outbreak caused by the Saudi-led war has killed 2,167 people since the end of April 2017 and is suspected to have infected more than one million people.

The UN has described the situation in Yemen as the “world’s worst humanitarian crisis.”

More than 13,600 people have been killed since the onset of the Saudi-led war on Yemen in 2015. Much of the impoverished country’s infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and factories, has been reduced to rubble in military strikes.
