Iranian, Iraqi FMs Hold Talks in Tehran

During the Saturday meeting, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the current trend of ties between Iran and Iraq and called for further strengthening of the relations of the two brotherly nations in various political, economic and border areas.

The two top diplomats also exchanged views on the most significant regional issues.

The Iraqi foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Saturday as part of a high-ranking Iraqi delegation headed by Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi for a two-day stay in Iran.

The visit comes a few weeks after the historic visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Iraq back in March.

Azarbaijan Museum: Second Archaeology Museum of Iran

It is located in Tabriz and is one of the must-see attractions of this historical city.

The museum houses important artifacts representing the history and civilization of ancient Iran. Domestic and foreign tourists call the museum one of the best tourist attractions of Tabriz.

A whole range of unique items dating back to ancient Persia are on display at the museum, including old coins and a library with three thousand volumes of books as well as conceptual and artistic statues. Also on show are clayware items dating back seven thousand years, making them the oldest antiquities on display at the museum.

The museum also houses ancient treasure troves containing items which belong to the historical town of Nishapur and date back to 4 AH (Anno Hegirae). The artifacts bear kufic handwriting and arabesque designs. They are also covered with white coating. Ground was broken for the museum near the Kabood Mosque of Tabriz in 1957 and was inaugurated in 1962. Documents suggest the building of the Azerbaijan museum was modeled after an initial plan by André Godard (1881-1995) and inspired by the local architecture of Iran’s Azerbaijan.

It is worth mentioning that André Godard was an archaeologist, architect and historian of French and Middle Eastern Art. He also served as the director of the Iranian Archeological Service for many years.

The plan for the Azerbaijan Museum was drawn by Esmail Dibaj, the representative of the General Department of Archaeology, and received final approval by Godard. Then the museum was constructed in three floors in an area measuring 3000 square metres. The museum’s building is comprised of different sections, namely four halls where antiquities are displayed, administrative and technical sections (laboratories and depots) as well as a specialized library. It is one of Iran’s largest museums.

Iran-Iraq Ties Serve Regional Security: Rouhani

Rouhani made the comments during a joint meeting of high-ranking Iranian and Iraqi delegations in Tehran on Saturday.

President Rouhani described the current mutual ties between Iran and Iraq in power, energy and railway areas as significant and said the two sides should develop new plans to expand their preferential trade deal and pave the way for free trade between the two neighbours.

“Establishing joint industrial towns and inviting the two sides’ entrepreneurs and investors to launch joint projects and start cooperation in setting production standards will prepare the ground for further trade relations between Iran and Iraq,” he was quoted as saying in a report by president.ir website.

He then called on the participating delegations to develop plans to dredge Arvand Rud or Shatt al-Arab (a river of 200 km in length shared by Iran and Iraq) in the next coming months.

President Rouhani said facilitating banking ties between Iranian and Iraqi central banks could pave the way for further financial transactions.

He noted that Iran is completely prepared to share its experiences in technical, engineering as well as housing, power plants and dam building with Iraq.

He expressed hope that the volume of trade between the two neighbouring states could hit $20b in the coming years.

The Iranian president then referred to Syria’s security and said Iran and Iraq, as two major regional players, are seeking to establish stability in the whole region.

“Restoring complete stability to Syria is highly significant for Iran and Iraq as two major regional players,” he noted.

Rouhani also touched on the issue of Jerusalem al-Quds and said the Islamic Republic of Iran deems the holy city as the permanent capital of Palestine and said Iran condemns any move violating Palestinians rights over al-Quds as their capital.

He then referred to Golan Heights and described it as an inseparable part of Syria occupied by the Zionist regime.

“No measure can violate this clear-cut historical fact,” he said, indirectly referring to the latest provocative move by US President Donald Trump who said Washington will recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied territory.

He also touched on the Yemen crisis and said political solution is the only way out of the current bloodshed in Yemen.

“I hope we can launch joint projects to send humanitarian aid to Yemen and restore peace and stability to the country,” he noted.

For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi paid gratitude to the Iranian government and nation for their warm hospitality and described the latest visit by Iranian president to Iraq as significant and historic.

“The visit had a host of achievements and removed the obstacles on the way of further expansion of mutual ties between the two sides,” he said.

He said following up recent agreements made between Iran and Iraq is among the major goals of his visit to Iran, which came a few weeks after Rouhani’s historic trip, adding that Iran and Iraq need to make efforts to establish further cooperation in various political, scientific, economic and cultural areas to meet their mutual interests.

He also praised the two sides’ agreement to lift visa fee for the two sides’ travellers and expressed hope that the move could prepare the ground for further contacts between Iranian and Iraqi nations.

Abdul Mahdi further referred to the connection of Iran and Iraq railway networks together and dredging of Arvand Rud as two significant projects and said the two sides should make efforts to expand cooperation in various areas including energy, joint water policy, common economic areas, scientific and technological exchanges and fight against terrorism and smuggling.

The Iraqi prime minister also expressed the sympathy of Iraqi government and nation with the Iranian nation over the latest deadly floods and said Iran and Iraq should stand behind each other in all conditions because the unity can lead to great achievements.

He also expressed his country’s complete rejection of any foreign interference in Iraq and said “based on Iraq’s constitution, we will never allow foreign forces to use our soil for war on other states particularly Iran.”

Iraqi prime minister arrived in Iran on Saturday for a two-day stay in the neighboring state. It is his first visit to Iran since taking office in October last year.

Villages in Iran’s Khuzestan Ordered to Evacuate over Flood Risk

Governor of the provincial capital, Ahvaz, said people in 14 villages near the Karkhe and Dez rivers have been ordered to leave their houses as the risk of flooding is high due to the rising flow of water in the two rivers.

He also noted that the Red Crescent Society and administrative offices will handle the evacuation of residents.

Record spring rainfall that has battered Iran in the past weeks caused serious flooding in many areas, mainly the provinces of Golestan, Lorestan, Khuzestan, Fars and Ilam, forcing thousands to leave their homes.

The death toll from the floods has reached 67, while the highest number of casualties occurred in the province of Fars with 21 deaths.

While residents in some western areas are still in need of relief aid, the Army Ground Force, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Basij have deployed forces, heavy military machinery, aircraft and boats to the disaster zones.

On Friday, the IRGC Aerospace Force said its helicopters have rescued some 200 people trapped by flood waters in the rural areas of Ilam.

Commander of the Army Ground Force also announced that 6,000 Army troops have been deployed to the province of Lorestan for rescue and relief operations.

Iran’s First Female Ranger Talks of Fight against Hunters, Smugglers

She has established a centre to take care of stray dogs. She is also running a new school named School of Nature in Gonbad-e Kavus in northeastern Iran to get the city’s students familiar with the concept of environment.

Sabzgaman is a group set up by Kaveh which plants trees along roads and collects garbage from various parts of Gonbad-e Kavus.

Iran’s First Female Ranger Talks of Fight against Hunters, SmugglersWhen a ranger falls into a trouble, she immediately launches campaigns to support them. She has already planted tens of thousands of saplings in various cities. The female social activist served as a member of the city council of Gonbad-e Kavus for several terms but quitted due to her extensive activities.

In an interview with Fars news agency, she has has talked about her career and achievements. What follows are excerpts of the interview:

When I was serving in the city council, I didn’t feel good. It was kind of like I’d become passive. So, I began my career in line with my academic degree. First, I planted 20 saplings and collected garbage wherever I found. I did them alone. Then I established a group named Sabzgaman. We planted trees along roads and collected garbage thrown out in forests and even public centres. Gradually, the group’s members began to rise. After a while, the Department of Environment praised me for the achievements. So, I began to wear rangers’ suit. I pursued my career 24/7 as an environmentalist.

Iran’s First Female Ranger Talks of Fight against Hunters, SmugglersThen, I decided to establish the School of Nature for elementary students of Gonbad-e Kavus. It was a hard job but I along with my colleagues managed to accomplish it and make the students familiar with the nature. Today, the students from their childhood are sensitive about environmental issues. We also have practical classes during which the students do recycling and take part in our environmental projects.

When building a road in a forest, we ruin the houses of animals living there. People usually view stray dogs living in the mountains as intruders. So, I set up a new center to take care of these dogs.

All these projects are accomplished with the public support and that’s why such great achievements are made within a short span of time.

IAEA Inspectors Visit Iranian Site that Exposed Bibi’s Lie: Report

Iran-IAEA Ties Redefined Following Grossi’s Visist to Tehran: Spokesman

Netanyahu claimed at the United Nations in September that the site housed 15 kg of unspecified radioactive material, citing it as testimony to his frivolous allegations that Tehran sought to obtain nuclear weapons.

The claim angered the International Atomic Energy Agency which has repeatedly confirmed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program after many inspections. At the time, the agency said it does not take information presented to it at face value and sends inspectors “only when needed”.

On Thursday, Reuters quoted three diplomats familiar with the agency’s work as saying that IAEA inspectors have visited the site.

One of the diplomats said the IAEA had been to the site more than once last month, the news agency reported. The others said the agency had been there, without specifying when.

“We have nothing to hide and any access given to the IAEA so far has been in the framework of laws and regulations and nothing beyond that,” Reuters also quoted an unnamed Iranian official as saying.

Quarterly IAEA reports say its inspectors have had access to all the places in Iran they have needed to visit, which IAEA chief Yukiya Amano repeated in a speech on Tuesday.

Such reports do not please Israel which has been stealing nuclear secrets and covertly making bombs since the 1950s.

Israel’s nuclear program has been an open secret since a disgruntled technician, Mordechai Vanunu, blew the whistle on it in 1986, but the official Israeli position is still never to confirm or deny its existence.

Israel also makes controversial claims against Iran’s nuclear program from time to time, which are often met with ridicule.

Netanyahu’s most recent spectacle at the UN in September drew swift reaction on social media, with Twitter users posting largely derisive comments.

After the speech, many Iranians took selfies in front of the carpet cleaning center in Turquzabad which Netanyahu claimed was a “secret atomic warehouse”.

Zarif Raps US Officials’ Contradictory Claims on Iran’s Power

The Iranian foreign minister made the remarks in a Friday post in his Twitter account.
“Flip-flop par excellence: one day US claims Iran on verge of collapse, the next we’re demonized as a “Great Power” that threatens NATO,” Zarif said in his tweet.
He was comparing Donald Trump’s August claim that his policies may lead to the collapse of the Iranian government, with that of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who told a meeting of NATO foreign ministers on Thursday that the US-led military alliance should get united in the face of “great power” challenges from Iran, Russia and China.
“Pompeo & his boss will make any contradictory claim that fits an occasion. In contrast, Iran is consistently responsible & peace-seeking,” he added.

Under the Trump administration, the US has stepped up its pressure campaign against Iran.
Trump’s hostile approach intensified last year, when he unilaterally withdrew Washington from the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and unleashed the “toughest ever” sanctions against Iran.
