Iran Rejects ‘Bogus’ Allegations Raised at IISS Manama Dialogue

Iran Rejects ‘Bogus’ Allegations Raised at IISS Manama Dialogue

In a statement on Sunday, Mousavi denounced the baseless and worthless remarks and the bogus allegations made against Iran by certain participants in the IISS (International Institute for Strategic Studies) Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, and dismissed the accusations against Tehran.

“The countries who themselves spawn and promote terrorism and extremism, who have interfered in the internal affairs of others by trampling on the principles of good neighbourliness, and who have undermined regional security by attracting the alien forces, could not attribute the self-created problems to the Islamic Republic of Iran by putting the blame on others,” he added.

“The historical memory of public opinion in the region and the world will not forget the Saudi-led military aggression against Yemen, the slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent women and children, and destruction of all the infrastructure in that country (Yemen) and resorting to colonialist behaviour in an effort to overthrow the legitimate governments and to establish client regimes,” the Iranian spokesman said.

Mousavi finally called on the countries which have raised allegations against Iran at the IISS Manama Dialogue to cast aside illusion, accept the realities, and exercise dialogue and collective cooperation to ensure regional stability, security and progress.

German Artist Holds ‘Homage to Hafez’ Exhibition in Iran

The renowned German sculptor and painter has created his works of art by drawing inspiration from the ghazals -lyric poems with a fixed number of verses and a repeated rhyme- written by universally acclaimed Iranian poet Hafez.

The Homage to Hafez exhibition, which has been already staged in various parts of the world, has opened in the Central Hall of Rasht on November 21 and will run for a month.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of opening of the exhibition, the curator of Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art said Guenther Uecker has paid visits to the cultural and religious sites of Iran.

“After visiting those sites, he (Uecker) said that if the global art is presumed to be a ring, the Persian art will be its gemstone, and such description provided by a world-renowned artist is so attractive to an Iranian,” Ehsan Aqaee said.

Aqaee also noted that every single work of the German artist costs thousands of euros.

“Guenther Uecker has been charmed by the ghazals of Hafez, and some of those ghazals have been so deeply imprinted on his mind that impressed him and made him create more than 40 works of art on the basis of ghazals od Hafez,” the Iranian official added.

An exhibition of works of Guenther Uecker inspired by the ghazals of Hafez was staged in Iran for the first time in the city of Shiraz back in 2016, Aqaee added, noting, “This exhibition was also unveiled in Germany; thereafter, the sale of Divan of Hafez soared in Germany, and arrangements were made to hold a world tour and an exhibition of works of art from Guenther Uecker all over the globe.”

The exhibition in Rasht displays 42 works of art created by Uecker, including 31 reticular printed works, six sand-printed paintings on a special cardboard and white patina color, as well as five items created with raised printing method on handmade calendar tablets.

The exhibition was earlier held in the Iranian cities of Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan and Shiraz.

The following are photos of the Homage to Hafez exhibition in Rasht, released by IRNA and Tasnim:

Iran Condemns US Sanctions on ICT Minister

Iran Condemns US Sanctions on ICT Minister
Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi.

In a statement on Saturday, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said, “Everyone knows that the current US government does not care about democratic principles and values, transparency and human rights, including the freedom of the Internet, for others,” he said.

“A look at the record of performance of this administration in terms of exerting pressure on managers of companies and major social and communications networks, including Twitter, in order to cut off opposition voices, indicates the US government’s politically-motivated handling of the free Internet and using it as a tool,” he added.

Mousavi’s comments came after Washington added Azari Jahromi to the list of Iranian officials sanctioned by the United States over the recent unrest.

Iranian Gov’t Not against Popular Protests: VP

Massoumeh Ebtekar

Vice President for Women Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekhar said the government has been trying to create room for criticism in society despite propaganda campaigns to create the impression that the opposite is true.

“The government has never been against free flow of information, and has always been determined to pave the way for transparency and for people to express their claims,” she added.

She noted the Constitution as well as other laws provide for people’s right to express their criticism and objections.

“One of the requirements of freedom of expression and civil rights is the very right to express one’s protest, and the 11th and 12th administrations have tried to make room for criticism in society despite all the propaganda and alarmism against the government,” she underscored.

“To that end, different tools have been provided to support media and free flow of information,” she said.

“If the Internet was disrupted for a few days, that was because of the special situation in the country, and under such circumstances, the government is the not the only one to make decisions,” the vice president noted.

She said protests such as the ones which broke out in Iran recently have existed in all eras and times, adding Iran is not the only country where protests erupt every now and then.

Ebtekar said the recent rise in gasoline prices is in favour of low-income deciles of the population.

She then lashed out at anti-Iran entities such as the United States and Saudi Arabia and their support for rioters in Iran.

“[During the recent protests in Iran,] a number of rioters took advantage of the situation and popular discontent as well as the fragile conditions created by the United States’ tough economic sanctions, and inflicted serious damage to private and public areas and resources,” she said.

She also noted such moves are different from popular protests and are regarded as acts of sabotage.

Cash Subsidies Paid to 60m Iranians after Gas Price Hikes

Cash Subsidies Paid to 60m Iranians after Gas Price Hikes

Head of the Budget and Planning Organization Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said the cash handouts were paid in less than ten days.

“As we had earlier announced, revenues from the sales and exports of gasoline would be deposited at bank accounts of 60 million people making up 18 million families, and tonight the third phase of the measure will take place,” said Nobakht in an interview with state TV on Saturday.

He said the families that have not received livelihood subsidies can hand in their requests, which will be examined and the result will be announced in less than a month.

“Those liable to receive gasoline subsidies (cash subsidies) will receive the handouts accordingly,” he added.

His comments follow almost a week of unrest in the country which erupted after a rise in gasoline prices. The government has set a 60-litre quota per month for each automobile at Rls. 15,000 per litre, which is a 50-percent rise in the price of regular gas. Additional purchases would cost drivers Rls. 30,000 per litre, a three-fold rise in the price.

The sudden price hikes sparked sporadic protests across the country.

Meanwhile, some rioters, instigators and hooligans supported and led by dissident elements abroad also cashed in on the protests, vandalizing public property, shooting citizens and bringing terror to the public. Many of them were identified and arrested afterwards.

Iranian Scientists Produce Liver, Pancreatic Stem Cells in Lab

Iran Uses Cell Therapy to Treat Coronavirus Patients

Dr Nasser Mobarra, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, said that “using tissue engineering, we use biocompatible structures to differentiate human IPS cells from hepatocyte and pancreatic cells.”

He said the results revealed by using these structures showed better biochemical and molecular markers.

He also noted that stem cells are the mother of all cells of the body and are subdivided into embryonic, adult, and cord cells. “In order to achieve lasting treatment in a significant number of diseases, we have to use stem cells and tissue engineering,” he underlined.

“Due to the prevalence of the liver and pancreas diseases and the increasing prevalence of diabetes, we had to produce a cell that resembles normal cells in the body. But another way was to produce a scaffold mounted on the cells, which is similar to the pancreas and liver cells.”

For a brief review of Iran’s achievements in various fields of science and technology, check the book “Science and Technology in Iran: A Brief Review – 2019

He also stressed that human stem cells have the ability to regenerate, which is a major advantage of stem cells, and the remarkable feature is that they can turn into mature cells. For example, when a wound is healing, this is done in collaboration with stem cells, and this is a good potential for healing.

“In the past, a brain or kidney cell would have been thought to be destroyed if it had been damaged. They imagined that they would no longer be recyclable and restored,” he said. However, scientific progress has shown that stem cells can produce many tissues to be transplanted into the patient’s body.

Iran Arrests ISIS, MKO, PJAK Elements over Riots

Iran Arrests ISIS, MKO, PJAK Elements over Riots

Governor-General of Kermanshah province Hooshang Bazvand says they were linked to dissident and terrorist groups.

“Vandals and rioters set fire to many businesses in the city of Kermanshah. They were affiliated with “PJAK,” “ISIS” and “MKO” groups as well as dissidents of the Islamic Establishment. All of them have been identified by provincial police and security forces,” the provincial governor said.

“In the past week, a handful of individuals supported by enemies of the country and led by dissident groups assaulted the lives and property of people as well as businesses of the city of Kermanshah, but met with strong reaction and hatred by noble people of Kermanshah,” he noted.

Bazvand underlined that the trace of foreigners’ interference and backing for hooligans in the recent unrest in Iran was completely evident.

He said the masterminds of the riots explicitly announced that they had made plans for the riots.

“However, the people of Kermanshah expressed their loathing of rioters,” he said.

The provincial governor added residents are to attend a rally in Kermanshah on November 24, 2019 to once again express their hatred of rioters and their supporters.

Judiciary Vows to Finish Screening of Those Arrested over Iran Riots

Iran’s Prosecutor Judicial Screening of Arrestees Due to End Soon (1)

Montazeri on Saturday paid a two-hour visit to a detention center in Tehran and had face-to-face conversations with the people arrested during the riots that erupted in the wake of a recent hike in the price of subsidized fuel in the country.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, the prosecutor general said the judicial screening of the arrestees would be finished within the next 48 hours, noting that the innocent arrestees will be released as soon as possible.

The people found guilty will be rapidly categorized according to their crimes, he added, noting that the convicts charged with heavy crimes will have to face justice.

All arrestees have had contacts with their families and all of them have expressed satisfaction with the detention center’s situation, he noted.

The prosecutor general also expressed hope that those deceived into attending riots would not fall victim to the hostile plots once again, saying there is no red line in taking action against the “main elements” behind the unrest.

“Our message for the enemies is that ‘do not think that you can reach your objectives by deceiving a small number of people’,” Montazeri added, saying the security and intelligence organizations are addressing the issues according to the evidence.

Iran Warns of Crushing Response to Interference in Its Internal Affairs

COVID-19 Punishes Those Who Sanctioned Iran’s Oil: First VP

In an address to a meeting at Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade on Saturday, Jahangiri cautioned certain regional countries that if evidence is obtained that they have been provoking riots and unrest inside Iran, they will not have a single trouble-free day in the region anymore.

“Iran is not a country that one could kid or treat like this. Iran must be treated with utmost courtesy, and if it becomes clear that the others have interfered in Iran’s internal affairs to harm the Iranian nation, they will definitely receive a crushing response,” the vice president warned.

He also highlighted the US failure to bring Iran to its knees through an economic war, saying such defeat forced Washington to change its policy and mount pressures on Iran in cooperation with a number of regional countries by interfering in the Islamic Republic’s internal affairs.

On the concerns about a recent hike in the price of subsidized gasoline, Jahangiri said the administration takes whatever decision necessary to fulfill the public interests, stressing that it also pays heed to public opinion and protests, respects the voice of people, and tries to fulfill the public demands.

The vice president further noted that the administration will reconsider its decision if it feels that a wrong one has been made on some matters, stressing that all organizations are duty-bound to relieve the pains of people.

He also praised a headquarters tasked with regulating the market prices in Iran, saying efforts are underway to allay concerns about a fluctuation in prices.

Specialized task forces must weigh up the proposals on the better management of the situation and make decisions responsibly in order to prevent the imposition of new burden and costs on people, he added.

Jahangiri finally emphasized that the cabinet of ministers will immediately make decisions on any plan for supporting and regulating the local market.
