Will Iran Respond to Its Scientist’s Killing Before Biden’s Inauguration?

At a time when it would be naïve to expect the United States’ number-one man (Trump) to act wisely, there are expectations that the next US president (Biden) would show more tolerance towards Iran in return for Iran showing tolerance (or as Iran’s Leader called it ‘heroic flexibility’) toward the US.

Under such circumstances, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo seek to block any paths conducive to tolerance. The extremist Israeli regime has clearly announced a policy of blocking the diplomatic channel between Iran and the United States.

The Iranian parliament speaker said in his Friday message on the assassination of Fakhrizadeh that “the path to tolerance is now closed.” But is that limited to the few remaining months in office of the Rouhani administration?

Still the obstacle created by the assassination of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani has not been removed. And now, double-obstacles have emerged on the diplomatic path to resolving disputes between Iran and the US (or in better words, Iran and the West). And the obstacles of the 1953 Iranian coup and the 1979 Iran hostage crisis (in which the US Embassy in Tehran was captured by Iranian students and its staff members were held hostage for 444 days) are history.
Will Iran’s strategic patience foil the dark scheme engineered by Netanyahu, bin Salman and Pompeo?

The two months ahead will be determining ones for the future of Iran, the region and the world!

Iran Gives More Details of Fakhrizadeh’s Assassination Operation

Fakhrizadeh accompanied by two bodyguard vehicles arrived in Absard town east of the capital Tehran at around 2 pm local time on Friday, November 27, 2020.

His car was stopped when fires were shot one kilometer past the entrance to the town near a garden known as Sarhang. Afterwards, a Nissan pickup loaded with lumber and explosives hidden underneath blew up.

After the explosion, the street was littered with lumber within a radius of 500 metres. The pylon next to the pickup truck was also damaged by the explosion. Then terrorists who had been waiting in ambush began firing at the scientist’s car from unidentified locations. They also gunned down one of Fakhrizadeh’s bodyguards who jumped to save the scientist.

However, Fakhrizadeh was wounded in the shootout and sustained severe injuries. After the firing died down, several terrorists fled the scene. Search is underway to spot their hideout in Damavand.

Immediately after the gunfight, Fakhrizadeh was taken to a nearby clinic before being medevacked to hospital, where died of the injuries.

Speaking to the state TV on Friday, Hatami said Fakhrizadeh was the leader of the team who developed one of the first Iranian kits for diagnosis of coronavirus.

According to the defence minister, Fakhrizadeh was a deputy minister and the head of the Defence Research and Innovation Organization of Iran.

“He had a great scientific profile and a long record in defence innovations. He had trained many students and his works in the defence field are huge and fruitful,” he added.

“He was an effective element in defence innovations. What the enemy did is clear: they target anywhere an effective step is taken for the Iranian nation,” he said.

“The defence sector, as a totally effective field for the Iranian people, has always been targeted and attacked by the enemy,” Hatami added.

Ebrahim Raeisi said such terror acts are aimed at putting the brakes on Iran’s scientific development.

“Once again, the criminal hands of elements who are in the pay of, and affiliated with foreigners and international Zionism launched a terrorist attack on, and killed an eminent Iranian scientist and executive aimed at achieving the evil objective of countering Iran’s scientific progress,” said the judiciary chief in a statement.

He said martyr Fakhrizadeh contributed heavily to Iran’s scientific and technological development and progress, including in the nuclear domain.

He expressed condolences on the scientist’s martyrdom, describing his assassination as a “tragic and irreparable loss.”

“The repeat of such incidents are, by no means, acceptable and tolerable,” read the statement.

“Hence, intelligence and security institutions as well as relevant judicial bodies have a duty to use all their intelligence capabilities to immediately identify and arrest the mercenary and criminal elements behind the assassination, and bring to justice all those involved, including perpetrators, masterminds and accessories to the crime,” read the statement.

In a message on Friday, Mahmoud Alavi expressed condolences on the assassination of the eminent scientist.

“The martyrdom of the head of the Research and Innovation Department of the Ministry of Defence and Logistics of the Armed Forces, Dr. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, caused deep sorrow and agony,” read the message.

“Intelligence agents have begun work to identify the mercenary terrorist elements of this savage crime, and will take revenge on the perpetrators and masterminds of this crime,” it added.

In a statement on Friday, Major General Mohammad Baqeri said the top scientist was assassinated by “blind-hearted” mercenaries of the Global Arrogance and the Zionist regime.

He also described the attack as a “brutal” move which dealt a “heavy and tragic” blow to the defence system of Iran.

He also described Fakhrizadeh as one of the people who heavily contributed to Iran’s science, research, and defence, raising the country’s defence power to an acceptable level of deterrence.

In a statement on Friday evening, Foreign Minister Zarif strongly condemned the blind terrorist attack on Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the Iranian Defence Ministry’s Research and Innovation Organization.

The top Iranian diplomat also offered his condolences to Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Iranian people, the martyr’s colleagues at the Defence Ministry, and the late figure’s family over the loss of such “prominent scientist and successful manager.”
