Today’s talks is held between the negotiating teams of Iran and the P4+1 at the level of deputies, and is chaired by Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs of European External Action Service Enrique Mora.

In this meeting, which started at 15:30 (Tehran time), the participants are expected to make a decision about how to continue the negotiations.

The fresh round of talks in Vienna has started since Thursday. In addition to a plenary meeting of the Joint Commission, the talks have been held at the level of experts in the two domains of “sanctions” and “nuclear issues”.

Iran, Regional States Won’t Allow Afghanistan to Return to 1990s: Zarif

Mohammad Javad Zarif said American troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan will be a positive step.

“That US forces will finally pull out of Afghanistan is a positive move, and the Taliban should not cash in on this opportunity to stoke violence,” said Zarif in a webinar at the Raisina Dialogue held in New Delhi attended by Afghanistan’s National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib and his Indian counterpart.

Zarif added Iran welcomes US forces’ “responsible withdrawal” from Afghanistan and believes the presence of foreign troops has never contributed to security in Afghanistan and the whole region.

The top Iranian diplomat added the Taliban should take the opportunity and immediately kick off serious negotiations with the Afghan government.

“The Taliban cannot bide its time to see a vacuum created in order to take advantage of it and see Afghanistan plunge into civil war,” said Zarif.

“The Taliban can be part of the trend of talks, but cannot take control of it,” the top diplomat noted.
Mohib, in turn, said at the virtual meeting that it is the best opportunity now for Afghans to take responsibility for the security of their country.

“Now it is the best chance for peace,” the Afghan national security advisor said.

He underlined Afghanistan’s peace process should take all Taliban groups on board and “none of them should be left out.”

Rouhani Congratulates Assad on Syria National Day

In a message on Saturday, Rouhani offered his sincere congratulations to the Syrian nation and government on the occasion.

“I am confident that valuable steps can be taken to establish peace and stability in the region, promote regional cooperation, and further develop bilateral ties in all fields using the abundant capacities and capabilities of the two states,” Rouhani said.

He finally wished health and success for Assad and prosperity for the Syrian nation and government.

Annually on April 17, Syria celebrates the Evacuation Day as its national day commemorating the evacuation of the last French soldier at the end of the French mandate of Syria on 17 April 1946 after Syria’s proclamation of full independence in 1941.

The French regime had proposed to depart on 18 April, Good Friday in 1946, but Syrian officials opted for a slightly earlier date to avoid holding commemoration activities on the Christian holiday.

Iran Must Target Israel’s Dimona Nuclear Facility: Hardline Paper

The Kayhan daily wrote in an opinion piece that the enrichment of uranium to the 60% purity level, which Iranian President Hassn Rouhani recently announced Iran would do, is not the right response to the attack at Natanz nuclear site.

“Unfortunately, by saying that Iran’s response is the installation of IR-6 centrifuges and starting 60% uranium enrichment, the president, in fact, announced that Tehran would not reciprocate Israel’s move,” wrote Kayhan.

“This false signal can be a starting point for new actions by enemies against the security of Iranian sensitive facilities and expert individuals,” the paper added.

“The response to the practical move against Iran’s atomic installations is to take practical action against the Israel regime’s nuclear facilities,” wrote Kayhan.

The daily proposed that Iran should act based on the “an eye for and eye” and “mutual threats on a par with threats received” principles because “any response on any level other than this will not be deterrent.”

“Iran’s response should be directed first inside the Israeli regime, and second at its nuclear facilities,” the paper added.

Iran Blasts Arab League, GCC for ‘Interventionist’ Remarks

In a statement on Friday, Saeed Khatibzadeh highlighted the destructive role of a handful of countries, and said, “These imprudent and irresponsible comments are part of their anti-Iran remarks.”

“These statements are not aimed at calling for cooperation; rather, they seek to disrupt the trend of technical talks in Vienna,” he said.

“The secretaries general of these institutions should know that Iran is a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and all of Iran’s nuclear activities are monitored by the safeguards programs of this agency,” said the spokesman.

“Naturally, the development of this program (Iran’s nuclear program) will continue in line with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s legitimate rights and national interests aimed at meeting peaceful needs,” he added.

“These entities had better avoid turning a blind eye to the existing realities and, instead, focus their concerns on parties violating the 2015 nuclear deal and UN Security Council Resolution 2231,” he said.

Khatibzadeh urged secretaries general of these institutions to turn their attention to the military and illegal nuclear activities of the Israeli regime and pay due regard to the dangers posed by the hundreds of nuclear warheads of this regime and Israel’s refusal to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as the biggest threat to regional peace, stability and security rather than getting on board with Israel when it comes to constantly levelling accusations against Iran.

Iran Strongly Rejects Ukraine’s Claim PS752 Flight Shot Down Intentionally

Iran Ready for Talks to Pay Damages for Ukraine Plane Crash

“It is regrettable that despite all explanations as well as expert and specialized reports, some Ukrainian officials still keep making politically-motivated and ambiguous comments and express their imaginary and dictated hypotheses in interviews with media,” said Saeed Khatibzadeh on Friday.

“It seems that neither the settlement of [controversies and issues surrounding] this bitter accident within the framework of objective and expert-approved realities nor easing the sufferings of victims’ families is a priority to Ukrainian authorities,” said the spokesman.

“Rather, they (Ukrainian officials) try to use this accident as a pretext to link their domestic problems or [problems pertaining to their] foreign relations with other countries to this tragic accident and make political capital out of it,” he added.

“It goes without saying that efforts to get such political mileage are not acceptable,” Khatibzadeh said.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran once again expresses its readiness to hold talks with all sides within the framework of the law and international norms, and urges all sides not to make comments which are not in conformity with logic and law,” he added.

Iran Expresses Grave Concern over Recent Incidents in Iraq

In a statement on Friday, Khatibzadeh said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the security, stability and territorial integrity of Iraq, and strongly rejects any move that threatens these inviolable principles.”

“Iraq is moving towards domestic development and playing an active and constructive role in the region but certain individuals seek to prevent the realisation of such goals in Iraq by carrying out acts of terrorism, fuelling insecurity, and creating crisis,” he added.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tehran believes Baghdad can overcome all these difficulties considering the capacities it has.

“We regard Iraq’s security and stability as an inseparable part of the security and stability of Iran and the region, and will spare no effort to support the friendly and brotherly country of Iraq,” he noted.

At least five civilians lost their lives and nearly two dozen others sustained injuries in a powerful blast near a marketplace in the al-Habibiyah area of Sadr City in the eastern flank of the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad on Thursday.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the deadly attack, but such assaults bear the hallmark of those carried out by remnants of the ISIS Takfiri terrorist group.

Iraqi President Barham Salih condemned the car bomb explosion in Baghdad in a post published on his official Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Hassan Salem, an Iraqi lawmaker affiliated to the anti-terror Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq group, which is part of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), said evidence indicates the involvement of Israel’s Mossad spy agency in Baghdad’s car bomb attack as well as the attack on the 30th Brigade of the PMU fighters in the northern Iraqi province of Nineveh.

The Friday meeting was held as part of ongoing consultations between Iran and the P4+1 negotiators in the Austrian capital.

Technical talks and discussions between the JCPOA parties on the removal of sanctions and nuclear issues are still underway at different levels.

In a statement on Friday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied certain reports that the negotiating teams have decided to stop the talks and return to their capitals, and stressed that the talks are still going on.
