Amir Abdollahian made the comment in a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Sunday.

He said the only pathway to final peace and stability in Afghanistan is the formation of a broad-based government representing all ethnic groups.

He also stressed the need for cooperation between all Islamic countries to swiftly deliver humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

Amir Abdollahian added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has supported the sending of humanitarian aid to the country.

He said Iran has also kept its borders open and is ready to cooperate with all countries to deliver aid to the Afghan people.

The prime minister of Pakistan also supported the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan and stressed the need to help the Afghan people in the current situation given that winter has arrived and Afghans lack fuel and food. Imran Khan also spoke about ties between Iran and Pakistan. He referred to different areas of cooperation, underlining the need for cross-border cooperation, especially cross-border trade, and the formation of border markets.

Iranian FM: Afghanistan crisis can be solved through inclusive government

Amir Abdollahian was speaking the at the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Islamabad on Sunday.

He added that security and stability in Afghanistan is possible only through the formation of an inclusive and effective government representing all ethnic and religious groups.

Amir Abdollahian warned that a delay in the formation of a broad-based government will give the enemies of the Afghan people the opportunity to create chaos, poverty and famine in Afghanistan through the spread of terrorism.

The Iranian foreign minister also spoke of Iran’s efforts to help Afghan refugees. He said the Islamic Republic has hosted millions of displaced Afghans for the past 40 years, adding that more than 5,000 Afghans enter Iran daily.

Amir Abdollahian urged the international community to give assistance to Iran for the Afghan refugees.

He further slammed the US move to freeze Afghanistan’s assets, saying Washington must unlock them to help meet the humanitarian needs of Afghans.

The foreign minister said since the beginning of the recent developments in Afghanistan, Iran has tried to facilitate human and commercial traffic by opening its borders and has provided extensive assistance to the government and people of Afghanistan in the fight against Covid 19, including vaccination of Afghan nationals residing in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Amir Abdollahian also touched on the Palestinian issue. He said the return of all Palestinians to their ancestral land and the formation of a Palestinian state throughout their historic homeland with al-Quds as its capital should be emphasized by the OIC.

He added that the experience of the so-called peace process with the fake Israeli regime and the normalization of relations with Tel Aviv show that the Palestinian issue can only be resolved with a complete and real end to the illegal occupation of this Islamic land.

Old mansion and maritime museum side by side in Bushehr

The mansion, in Bushehr’s Sabzabad district, was used by the British as a summer resort for their representatives as early as 1858. It was later turned into the permanent residence of the British consular general in Bushehr. Outside the Kolah Farangi mansion now lie various military boats, submarines and other vessels equipped with military hardware.

They are on display as part of the military equipment designed and built by Iranian engineers during the 8-year war Iraq imposed on Iran in the 1980’s.
Also on display in the museum is the famous Persepolis vessel.

Iran Covid: 50 new deaths, 1,900 more cases

There were also more than 1,900 new infections on Saturday, December 18, 2021, which takes the overall caseload to more than 6,170,000.
Upwards of 6,000,000 COVID patients have recovered across the country so far, with over 2,800 people currently hospitalized in the ICU.
Iran has been pressing ahead with the vaccination drive to help contain the spread of the disease.
Over 59,000,000 people have received their first doses of the vaccine, more than 50,000,000 have got their second jabs, and over 3,700,000 have received the third doses.
This comes as authorities have confirmed the first cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the country. Citizens have been urged to observe health protocols more seriously to help contain the virus.

Iran confirms Omicron cases in country

“In an emergency meeting of the Coronavirus Task Force held at the health ministry, it was confirmed that cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been observed in Iran,” said the ministry’s Public Relations Office.
In the meeting, participants also exchanged views on drawing up new health protocols.
They stressed the necessity of the injection of the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine as well as wearing face masks and observing other health protocols in order to contain the spread of the new strain of the virus.
Meanwhile, a member of the task force reiterated that Omicron turns into the predominant variant of COVID-19 in 17 days while the Delta strain took 100 days to become the dominant breed of the virus.
He said the Omicron variant is likely to have entered Iran as borders are open and flights are running.
“Observations show the number of Omicron infections is increasing in different countries day by day, and there is a possibility that it is present Iran,” said he task force member.
“If observed in the country, Omicron can change the situation from blue to red; so, health directives should be taken more seriously,” he said.

UN lauds Iran for hosting millions of Afghan migrants

Filippo Grandi said Iran’s cooperation in offering refuge to oppressed Afghan people is praiseworthy, adding international organizations for refugees’ affairs are standing by Iran.

He also weighed in on trend of construction work for a makeshift refugee camp in the town of Zabul in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchistan which lies next to the Afghan border.

He said some $11 million has been earmarked for the construction of the site, adding more than half of the funding has been provided by the UNHCR.

He said migrants to be housed at the site will enjoy education and health services and will be provided with basic living needs.

The UN official highlighted that the world body seeks to help return stability to Afghanistan.
Accompanied by a delegation, Grandi is in Sistan-Baluchistan to visit the site where a camp is to be built for Afghan migrants.

Iran has been hosting over 4 million Afghan migrants for years, providing them with free education, healthcare services and other basic needs.

This comes as relevant international bodies have not done enough to help Iran cover the refugees’ costs and handle their affairs.

During the meeting, dubbed the 3+3 group, participants discussed regional cooperation.

“US, Europeans accepted Iran’s proposals in Vienna talks despite pretending otherwise”

When the Islamic Republic offered its proposals for the removal of all sanctions, effective verification of the removal of the sanctions and the need for guarantees from the other parties, the Americans, the Europeans along with Israel and some regional governments launched a media campaign against Iran to blame it for an impasse in the talks, Keyhan wrote.
They focused on such scenarios as the defeat of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, setting a deadline for Iran in the talks and threatening it with military action to blame Iran, added the daily.
“The change in the direction of the nuclear talks and the perseverance and insistence of the Iranian negotiating team led the US and the Europeans to back down on their initial positions and accept new drafts tabled by Iran as the basis for the future talks,” Keyhan wrote.
However, the paper said, despite accepting Iran’s proposals as the basis for the talks, the US and the Europeans continued their media campaign as part of a blame game against Iran.
This comes as Iran’s top negotiator Ali Bagheri also said before the pause in the talks on Thursday that the European sides have accepted Tehran’s proposed texts as the basis for further negotiation.

Council Announces Reasons for Ali Larijani’s Disqualification in Iran’s 2021 Presidential Race

Among the reasons, said the council, was Larijani’s role in creating part of the disorder during the tenure of the former Iranian administration and that one of his children was residing in the United States.

As stipulated in the council’s letter, other reasons for Larijani’s disqualification included the numerous trips that his family members had to foreign countries, including Europe and the US, one of his other children staying in the United States, and some of his close relations living and continuing their studies in Britain, which ran counter to directives by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Larijani’s political stances and his remarks on different issues and at different points in time during the unrest touched off by dissidents following Iran’s 2009 presidential election have also been mentioned as other reasons why his qualification was not approved.

As stated in the letter, among other reasons was interference by on of Larijani’s children in Parliament’s construction and service contracts as well as failure to observe the principle that officials should lead a simple life.

Meanwhile, Ali Larijani responded to the letter, slamming the claim that he was responsible for part of the disorder during the previous administration.

“Strange enough, the Guardian Council qualified individuals who served in state positions during the former administration, including the head of government himself, and the council did not blame them for the disorder within the administration, but it blames me for having contributed to the disorder while I had no responsibility in the administration and I only served in Parliament,” said Larijani.

In his letter, Larijani also denied that his child was residing in the United States.

“[The claim] that my child is residing in the US is a sheer lie; rather, she is there for her and her husband’s education,” he wrote.

“The claim that my families had numerous trips to Europe and the United States is 100% false,” he said.

“During the time following the [1979 Iran’s Islamic] Revolution, my family and I once travelled to Britain for education, but we immediately changed our minds and quit,” he added.

“Also, my wife travelled to Britain in the 1980s two times in order to take care of my child’s situation and for ‘positron emission tomography imaging’ to be conducted on my child to reveal the extent of the progress of the disease as my child was suffering from a tough illness,” he noted.

“She was there for five days at our own personal expense,” said Larijani.

In response to the claim that one of his children had interfered in Parliament’s contracts, Larijani asked the Judiciary chief to look into the matter immediately and inform the public of the results of the inquiry accordingly.

Larijani added he and his children would be ready for any legal punishment.

“But if it turns out that an institution has issued a false report, announce it publicly,” he said.

Larijani also responded to the claim about his political stances and his remarks on different issues and at different points in time during the unrest touched off by dissidents following Iran’s 2009 presidential election.

Larijani said he had, from the very outset, made comments about issues such as the clergy, trusteeship by the Jurisconsult, the late Imam Khomeini, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Holy Defense (the name coined to refer to Iran’s resistance during the eight-year Iraqi-imposed war in the 1980s), nuclear issues, international affairs, etc.

“Were there any problems with any of these to result in my disqualification?” he asked rhetorically.

He also weighed in on issues pertaining to the chaos triggered by dissidents following Iran’s 2009 presidential election.

“Suppose the Guardian Council’s viewpoints on some issues, including the post-election sedition in 2009, were different from those of mine. Can it be a reason for my disqualification? Were my stances on the 2009 unrest against Islam, the Constitution, people’s basic rights and the directives set by the Leader?” he noted.
