Iran Slams Saudi Minister’s Anti-Iran Claims

Iran’s Foreign Ministry categorically condemned recent remarks by Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister against Tehran, describing them as “baseless” and “repetitive”.

Bahram Qassemi was reacting to comments by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir who accused Tehran on Wednesday of “supplying weapons to Houthis” in Yemen and “destabilizing Arab countries”.

“Saudi authorities are bogged down in a bloody quagmire of terrorism and massacre of innocent women and children in Yemen, Syria and Iraq as a result of their egregious strategic errors”, Qassemi said on Thursday.

He urged the Saudis to reconsider their approaches toward the region instead of desperate cries and repeated bogus claims.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman went on to add that notwithstanding Saudi officials’ attempts to cover up the kingdom’s crimes, the world is well aware today that Riyadh is using its petrodollars to kill children in Yemen and that it is the source of incitements in the region.

The Saudi foreign minister’s allegations of Iran’s involvement in Yemen come at a time when Yemen’s defenseless people are under massive attacks by a coalition led by the Saudi regime.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to the UN, nearly 10,000 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
