Iranian President Congratulates Alizadeh on Olympics Bronze Medal

Rouhani

“My daughter, Kimia! You made the entire nation, especially the Iranian women, happy. I wish you happiness forever,” Rouhani said in a message on his Twitter account.

Alizadeh made Iranian history on Thursday after she won an Olympic bronze medal during the women’s taekwondo competition.

The 18-year-old taekwondo player beat Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden 5-1 in the under-57kg division and won the medal.

Alizadeh became the first ever Iranian woman to win an Olympic medal.

Gold medal went to London gold medallist Jade Jones from Britain who defeated Spaniard Eva Calvo Gomez 16-7.

Alizadeh won the Youth Olympics two years ago and last year she took a bronze at the world championships, Tasnim reported.

Iranian athletes have won two gold medals (weightlifting) and two bronze medals (Greco-Roman wrestling) so far.

Iranian Spokesman: Good Ties with Neighbors Tehran’s Top Priority

ghasemi

Speaking on Friday in response to a question about recent positive remarks made by the Kuwaiti parliament speaker on Tehran-Kuwait City relations, Qassemi said, “Undoubtedly, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy priority is having the best relations with neighbors and regional countries.”

Iran and all of its neighboring countries have numerous capacities to boost cooperation in line with the policy of “good neighborliness, political partnership economic development and the fight against common threats”.

Based on its unchanging and principled policy, Iran will be always after stability, security and the progress of its neighboring nations, he noted.

In an interview with Qatari daily Al Sharq published on Wednesday, Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim had said that “Kuwait and all (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council ([P]GCC) states are willing to create a calm atmosphere and to enjoy good neighborly relations with Iran.”

He added that all the countries and Iran are equal partners in this region.

No Limits on Range, Accuracy of Iran’s Missiles: DM

General Dehghan

“Our missiles have the highest destructive power and enjoy high accuracy, durability and reliable tactical status, and we face no limitation on the range, accuracy and quality of the products,” the senior general said in address to Friday prayers worshippers in Tehran.

He also underlined that Iran has gained such high level of defense power that it can combat any threat against the nation.

By employing local experts, Iran’s defense industry is capable of fulfilling demands for all military equipment, he added.

As regards Iran’s progress in the space sphere, the minister pointed to the launch of satellites as heavy as 500kg into the orbit, which he said would satisfy local needs for positioning data.

He further reaffirmed Iran’s support for its allies, saying the anti-Israel axis of resistance fulfills the bulk of its needs using Iran’s defense capabilities.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

In late March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underscored the need for boosting Iran’s defense capabilities, warning that enemies are making use of every tool available to undermine the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei said at the time that if the Islamic establishment seeks technology and negotiations but lacks defense might, it will have to buckle in the face of any weak country posing threats.

In March, the IRGC test-fired two types of Qadr ballistic missiles during the large-scale drills, codenamed “Might of Velayat”.

The two ballistic missiles, Qadr-H and Qadr-F, were launched from the heights of East Alborz Mountains, north of Iran, and hit targets on the Makran coasts, southeast of the country.

Iranian athlete was defeated by Eva Calvo Gomez of Spain in quarter-finals 8-7, however, she could compete a repechage once the Spanish Gomez reached the final.

Rouhani Criticizes Injustice against Iranian Olympic Weightlifter

Behdadi Salimi in Rouhani Post

A recent controversial decision by the weightlifting jury panel against the Iranian weightlifter at Rio Olympics provoked widespread criticism among Iranians.

President Rouhani has also published a critical cartoon on his Instagram account in support of Behdad.

The photo has been posted with such hashtags as #injustice, #olympics_champion, and #my_champion.

IWF President Aján Is to Blame for Injustice against Iranian Weightlifter: Minister

13950121000121_PhotoAMahmoud Goudarzi, the Iranian Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, hailed the efforts made by Behdad while referring to the preconceived mentality of International Weightlifting Federation Chief Tamás Aján as the driving force behind the recent injustice against Iran’s weightlifter.

According to a report by Fars, as translated by IFP, Goudarzi said there is a history behind what happened at Rio Olympics.

“During the weightlifting elections in Iran, Aján, the President of the International Weightlifting Federation, was under the influence of preconceived mentality,” Goudarzi noted.

“Therefore, we asked him to refrain from any act of interference in the election. That, I believe, influenced the jury’s decision.”

“We will offer Behdad a reward equivalent to that of gold medallists in Iran,” Goudarzi stressed.

Salimi set the world record for the snatch with 216 kg. But he could not complete any of his three attempts on the clean and jerk.

Salimi appeared to disagree with the jury panel’s ruling on his first two tries and didn’t have the energy to complete the third.

Gold medal went to Lasha Talakhadze of Georgia with 473 in total.

Iran Not to Tolerate Behavior Contrary to Spirit of JCPOA: Shamkhani

Shamkhani

Speaking at a meeting with visiting Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende in Tehran on Wednesday, Shamkhani deplored some Western parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for their failure to completely implement the deal.

He said the removal of all sanctions against Iran is, in practice, an “unavoidable necessity” in order to continue the process of implementing the agreement.

“Tehran will not tolerate some countries’ behavior to keep sanctions in place, which is contrary to the spirit of the JCPOA,” the official noted.

The Norwegian top diplomat, for his part, said the removal of anti-Iran sanctions after the deal has provided good opportunities to boost Tehran-Oslo relations in various areas, economy in particular.

While the JCPOA, a 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) came into force in January, some Iranian officials complain about the US failure to fully implement the accord.

Earlier in March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Americans have yet to fulfill what they were supposed to do as per the nuclear deal.

Iran still has problems in its banking transactions or in restoring its frozen assets, because Western countries and those involved in such processes are afraid of Americans, the Leader said at the time, criticizing the US for its moves to prevent Iran from taking advantage of the sanctions removal.

Iran: Unity with Iraq Guarantee Against Common Threats

General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri

Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri made the remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with Iraqi National Security Adviser Faleh al-Fayyad in Tehran on Wednesday.

He stressed that bolstering “unity between the two countries, establishing stable security, creating joint border committees and negotiations” would be beneficial to regional security.

Baqeri also hailed the improvement in the Iraq’s security situation in the wake of the recent gains made by Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units in the fight against Daesh.

Fighters from the Popular Mobilization Units, allied with the Iraqi army, have been an efficient force in attempts to recapture militant-held areas.

He also expressed hope that the Iraqi army would defeat Daesh and liberate the city of Mosul and other terrorist-held regions in the country in the near future.

Last week, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced that the Iraqi army was engaged in the final stages of planning the latest operations aimed at ridding Mosul from the Daesh terrorists, who overran the country’s second largest city in the summer of 2014.

The city is the last remaining bastion of Daesh in Iraq as the military and allies have managed to retake key towns and villages from the militants over the past months.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since Daesh terrorists mounted their offensive in June 2014. The militants have been committing vicious crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.

History to Remember Unfair Judgement against Iran’s Olympic Weightlifter

behdad salimi 6

According to a report by IRNA, as translated by IFP, Moradi said the jury’s injustice against Behdad will remain in history forever.

“Behdad lifted 245 kilograms and despite getting three white lights from the judges, the jury did not accept the result,” Moradi said, concluding that “all this attest to the fact that they did not want Iran to win gold.”

behdad salimi 4According to Moradi, although Iranian coaching team severely protested their contentious move, Tamás Aján, the President of the International Weightlifting Federation, said there is nothing they can do.

“It is unfortunate that their behaviour has tarnished the spirit of Olympics and dragged the essence of sports under a big question mark,” Moradi regretted.

He described the presence of special police forces in the competition venues as an inappropriate measure for maintaining security.

Security forces were called to the Olympic weightlifting arena on Tuesday after Iranian coaches reacted furiously when Talakhadze beat Salimi with a world record tally in the men’s super-heavyweights.

behdad salimi3Salimi had set a new world record of 216kg in the snatch to lead Georgian lifter Lasha Talakhadze by 1kg going into the clean and jerk.

Judges ruled that the 26-year-old super heavyweight’s first jerk was a no lift. The jury then dramatically over-ruled the judges’ decision that his second lift had been legitimate.

Salimi thought he had successfully raised 245kg above his head but the panel of referees on the jury ruled that his left arm had not been straight, AFP wrote.

“Why should they take this from us so easily?” Salimi told reporters, as reported by Tasnim.

“There’s a malfunction in the system, people saw what happened,” he added.

“Tamás Aján told me ‘you did well’ but I don’t know why the judges’ decisions went against me,” Salimi said.

behdad salimi“There’s a conspiracy. Our enemies were on the jury,” an irate Iranian coach Sajjad Anoushiravani told reporters, appearing to be referring to a judge from Iraq.

“It’s obvious they took the medal from Salimi. The jury was selected for this to happen. He is a gold medallist from London. He broke the world record here. They may as well throw the whole thing in the trash,” said Anoushiravani.

“It was getting ugly and we asked the competition manager to call security because of the behaviour by the Iranian officials,” said Sam Coffa, chairman of the International Weightlifting Federation’s technical committee.

behdad salimi 10“It was an unfortunate end to the Games,” said Coffa.

Iranian supporters in the crowd of more than 5,000 booed the Georgian, the final weightlifting gold medallist of the Rio Games.
