Called the jewel of tourism industry in western Iran, the freshwater wetland of Zrebar (also known as Zaribat and Zirewar) is located in Kurdistan province in Western Iran.
The lake is exactly located 130 km to the northwest of Sanandaj and three kilometres to the west of Marivan.
The water of Zrebar Lake flows out of springs situated in its bottom. A place for wintering and hatching of migratory birds, it is one of the most unique freshwater wetlands in the world.
In recent years, the lake’s life has been threatened because of overgrown canebrakes surrounding it.
