Iranian President on Wednesday strongly deplored deadly terrorist attacks in Tehran, expressing the confidence that the Iranian nation will confront terrorism and violence.
“Undoubtedly, the Iranian nation will confront violence and terror stronger than before,” Hassan Rouhani said in a meeting with a group of Iranian cultural figures.
“This great nation and all free nations of the world will resist extremism and violence,” he reiterated.
Rouhani then described Tehran’s twin terror attacks as “cowardly,” adding, “The Iranian nation will prove once again that it will crush any plot hatched by ill-wishers through unity and solidarity and its powerful security structure.”
Offering condolence to the bereaved families of the terrorist attacks’ victims, Rouhani said that Iran’s enemies were irked by the huge turnout of the Iranians in the country’s May 19 elections and therefore recruited and supported Takfiri elements to cover up their failures in the region.
The Wednesday terrorist attack on the Iranian Parliament finished after all four gunmen were killed in confrontation with Iranian security forces.
In another attack on the same day, a group of terrorists opened fire at several people in the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, south of Tehran.
According to officials, 12 people have been martyred and 42 others were wounded in the twin attacks.
