A group of researchers in an Iranian knowledge-based company have managed to produce a kind of biodegradable garbage bag using oxidized nanoparticles.
As shown by the statistics of the International Organization for Standardization, 30 percent of the plastic products are disposable. This is while, only 2 percent of them are recycled.
Since 1970, the grave problems caused by landfilling across the globe have convinced researchers to pay greater attention to the issue of using biodegradable materials, polymers in particular, in producing bin bags.
Thus, they have decided to gradually replace plastic with biodegradable polymers in the production of certain common items. Less energy is consumed in the production process of biodegradable polymers and, in general, materials in contrast with that of common plastics. In addition, these materials are eco-friendly.
Researchers in an Iranian knowledge-based company have produced a kind of biodegradable bin bag with the trade name of “Oxazist” using oxidized nanoparticles.
These nanoparticles help modify the mechanical properties of the bin bags, according to a Farsi report by the Mehr News Agency.
The biodegradable bags’ quality has been confirmed by the Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC). Since three years ago, The INIC has been involved in evaluating the quality of nano products by Iranian knowledge-based companies and confirming their nanoscale dimensions.
The INIC is affiliated to Iran’s Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology Affairs.
