Oil exploration and drilling on fields of Hour al-Azim Lagoon to the west of the Karun River in the border province of Khuzestan is underway with environmental considerations which cause the least damage to nature.

Hour al-Azim Lagoon, also known as Hoveyzeh Lagoon, is the largest lagoon in Khuzestan. It straddles the Iran-Iraq border. Iran is home to 1/3 of the lagoon.
