Iranian presidential candidate Hassan Rouhani said all parties in the country should enjoy equal rights if we are going to achieve our political and social goals.
“If we are going to achieve our goals in social and political issues, we should recognize different thoughts. We are not even allowing different parties and groups to be active in an equal way,” Rouhani said in the second presidential debate on Friday afternoon in reaction to the remarks made about his government’s intolerance towards criticism.
“Are all ethnic groups and minorities in Iran enjoying equal rights? We are even criticized by the two sides for appointing a female Sunni as a local governor. They ask why the governor should be a woman and why a Sunni,” he went on to say.
“All Iranians should enjoy equal civil rights,” he went on to say.
