Located in Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan, the Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System is a wondrous complex irrigation system from the ancient Sassani era.
The complex, a favorite tourist hub in the region, consists of 13 dams, bridges, canals and structures which work together as a hydraulic system.
The system was registered on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in 2009 and is Iran’s 10th cultural heritage site to be registered on the United Nations’ list.
