Mahdi Mohammadi, an Iranian political analyst, believes that the recent appointment of Major General Mohammad Bagheri as the new Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces sends a very important message to the country’s military rivals.
Here’s IFP’s translation of his remarks, as published in his Telegram channel and reported by Mashreq:
The appointment of Major General Mohammad Bagheri as the new Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces sends a very important message to the country’s military rivals.
Although the basic trends will remain intact, the appointment will:
1- Add up-to-date strategic thought to the Armed Forces’ structure;
2- Considerably enhance coordination among the Armed Forces;
3- Prioritize new types of threat, including cyber-threats;
4- Increase the strength of Iranian Armed Forces’ international presence, particularly that of the IRGC Quds Force, and generally boost the “geopolitical agility” of Iran’s military system;
5- Move the Armed Forces towards a combination of speed and efficiency, especially with a focus on basic information operations.
Of course this does not mean that the path was different under the command of General [Hassan] Firouzabadi; it is the same path, which is going to be pursued in a “more revolutionary” way.
