US Dream of Dividing Syria Will Never Come True: Iran Leader’s Aide

Ali Akbar Velayati, a top international advisor to Iran’s Leader, says the US is seeking to divide Syria as a prelude to establish and recognize an independent state in the Kurdish-populated area of the eastern bank of the Euphrates.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Velayati stressed that the US’ dream of dividing Syria will never come true as Tehran defends the territorial integrity of Syria and rejects any foreign invasion of the country.

“We recommend that the US respects international borders. Meanwhile, we believe that the Syrian nation and their supporters (including Lebanon’s Hezbollah) will force them out of the eastern bank of the Euphrates River,” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by Fars News Agency.

Velayati also noted that as in the past, Syria’s supporters including volunteer forces of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Heidariyoun, Fatemiyoun and Zeinabiyoun will stand by the Syrian nation in this battle and foil the US’ Satanic plan for the region.

Most of the Syrian Kurds are committed to the territorial integrity of the country, he concluded.

The remarks came as the US has already deployed around 2,000 military personnel in northern Syria supporting the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northern Syria which is an alliance of Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG)

Today, the northern Syria has turned into a battlefield between Turkish forces and the US-backed YPG militants.

Turkey began its operation in northern Syria about two weeks ago after the US said it would work with Kurdish militants to set up a 30,000-strong border force near Turkey.

Syria has slammed both Turkey and the US for their military activities in the country as a violation of its sovereignty, repeatedly calling on both sides to leave its soil.
