Iran’s minister of foreign affairs says terrorists on Wednesday were proxies who attacked what their Saudi masters despised the most, namely the seat of democracy.
The Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has, in a post on his Twitter account, indirectly attacked Riyadh for preparing the grounds for the terrorist assaults on the Iranian Parliament and the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini.
Referring to recent remarks by Saudi Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Zarif said, “Terror-sponsoring despots threaten to bring the fight to our homeland [Iran]. Proxies attack what their masters despise most: the seat of democracy.”
Back in May, Saudi deputy crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, who is also defence minister, ruled out the likeliness of establishing friendly ties with Iran, and said that holding talks with Iran is impossible, as Tehran’s goal is to “control the Muslim world”.
Salman said any struggle for influence between Iran and Saudi Arabia has to take place “inside Iran, not in Saudi Arabia.”
In his post, Zarif also hinted at the lack of democracy in Saudi Arabia, saying the Al Saud’s hatred towards this system of government has been the main reason they encouraged their mercenaries to attack the Iranian Parliament, which is among the country’s most obvious symbols of democracy.
In another tweet, Zarif also addressed the contradictory comments by US President Donald Trump over the twin attacks in Tehran, saying, “Repugnant WH statement & Senate sanctions as Iranians counter terror backed by US clients. Iranian people reject such US claims of friendship.”
