Six-Day Lockdown Declared in Tehran to Contain Spread of Delta Variant

All government offices, banks, and roads will be closed in Tehran and Alborz provinces as of Tuesday for six days in a bid to contain the spread of the Delta variant of the COVID-19, Iranian coronavirus officials say

According to the anti-coronavirus headquarters, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has endorsed the HQ’s decision to impose a six-day lockdown in Tehran and Alborz provinces from Tuesday, July 20, to Sunday, July 25, 2021.

According to Qassemi, the secretary of the HQ’s Social and Security Committee, no car will be allowed to leave these two provinces or enter into them.

Qassem Nodeh Farahani, the head of Tehran Chamber of Guilds, says the grand bazaar of Tehran will also be closed in the six-day period.

Banks and the Tehran Stock Exchange market will also be shut down as of Tuesday in order to contain the spread of the new variant, which has considerably increased the number of infections.
