Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has extended his congratulations to Nicolas Maduro on his re-election as Venezuelan president.
In a congratulatory message on Saturday, Rouhani said the successful, calm and healthy elections recently held in Venezuela under the shadow of economic sanctions and foreign powers’ threats was a great success and victory for the Venezuelan government and nation.
On behalf of the Iranian people and government, Rouhani expressed solidarity with the nation and government of Bolivarian Venezuela, and hoped that through joint efforts of the two countries’ officials, both nations will witness closer ties in various fields.
Maduro was sworn in on Thursday for a second term as president of the Latin American country. The 55-year-old former bus driver was re-elected Sunday. His election for a second six-year term maintains him in the presidency until 2025.
