A look at Iranian newspaper front pages on Feb. 10

IFP has taken a look at the front pages of newspapers on Tuesday and picked headlines from 12 of them. IFP has simply translated the headlines and does not vouch for their accuracy.

A call by officials and state institutions on the public to turn out in force for nationwide rallies on Wednesday to mark the 36th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution dominated the front pages of Iranian newspapers on Tuesday. The dust storm that has swept through the country’s southwestern provinces, making daily life difficult for residents, particularly in Ahvaz, and comments by the Russian president on Iran’s entitlement to uranium enrichment also appeared on the cover of dailies.

 

Abrar: “The Air Force is ready to fend off any threat,” said an Iranian Air Force commander.

 


Afkar: “Environmental problems are claiming lives,” said Tehran Mayor Ghalibaf.

 


Aftab-e Yazd: “February 11 is a national festivity and belongs to all Iranians,” said the president.

President Rouhani made the comment as he urged all Iranians to take part in Wednesday’s rallies marking the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

 


Arman-e Emrooz: Not being hopeful about the future is dangerous

Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani also said public awareness makes it difficult for reactionaries [to secure their objectives].

The corruption charge of Mohammad Reza Rahimi, who served as vice-president under Ahmadinejad, has been upheld by the Supreme Court. He has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.

 


Asr-e Rasaneh: “The drop in oil prices won’t force a shutdown of South Pars gas field,” said a deputy oil minister.

 


Asrar: “The leader’s comments determine our position,” said Nobakht, the government spokesman.

Asrar: “Muhammad, Messenger of God is the greatest Iranian film in 35 years,” said Ali Jannati.

The minister of culture and Islamic guidance made the comment as he and a number of other cultural officials watched the movie during a special screening on Monday.

 


Emtiaz: Dust has sent 234 residents of Ahvaz to hospital emergency rooms.

Emtiaz: Authorities have warned the capital will face a water crisis in the summer.

 


Etemad: Dust has swept through seven Iranian provinces.

 


Ettela’at: The Iranian Air Force has unveiled a new fighter jet named Saeghe 2.

 


Hambastegi: “Inflation is the biggest problem and needs to be contained,” said Vice-President Eshagh Jahangiri.

 


Jomhouri Islami: “Some 25,000 villages will have access to the Internet,” said the communications minister.

 


Resalat: Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Iran is entitled to enrichment.
