Leader Calls for Government’s Serious Action against Payment of Astronomical Salaries

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei referred to the extremely large incomes paid to certain government employees, and described it as an attack on values, which should be seriously pursued by the government.

“The problem of astronomical salaries is, in fact, an attack on values,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and members of his cabinet on Wednesday, June 22, in Tehran.

However, the Leader added, everyone should know that this matter is one of the exceptions and the majority of managers, among Iranian governmental bodies, have clean hands.

“This rare event is ghastly and should be stringently dealt with,” the Leader stressed, as reported by the official website of Ayatollah Khamenei.

Earlier on June 12, First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri was ordered by the President to probe into the issue expeditiously.

In the Wednesday meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei urged Jahangiri to deal with the issue quickly and firmly.

“Following the investigation, results should be made available to the people,” the Leader emphasized.

Leader Warns against Words and Actions That Reinforce Sedition

“Imam Ali (PBUH) advises that, in times of sedition, it becomes very difficult for people to distinguish truth from false and one should act in a manner that would not benefit the sedition in any way ,” the Leader noted elsewhere in his remarks.

Ayatollah Khamenei gave the following example, “During a time of sedition, like what happened in 2009 [protests after the presidential elections], one’s words, silence, action or even viewpoint should not reinforce the sedition.”

“Of course, some individuals, due to their personal inclinations, may not be interested in taking clear stances against the sedition (fitna), but they should not be exploited for the benefit of the sedition either,” Ayatollah Khamenei stressed.
