Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani says al-Quds is the land of all Muslims and will remain the capital of the Palestinian state.
“The situation we are experiencing today is very important, because Jerusalem al-Quds is a holy city for Muslims as well as Christians and Jews,” Rouhani said on Tuesday.
He made the remarks before leaving Tehran for Istanbul, Turkey, to attend an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Donald Trump’s Jerusalem al-Quds decision.
He further mentioned that the party which is a stranger on the Palestinian land is the Zionist regime because Muslims, Jews and Christians have lived together for centuries in Palestine.
“The wrong decision of the US president to relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem al-Quds was a rude decision as Quds does not only belong to a nation or a geographic region. It is respected by all Muslims in the world and the al-Aqsa mosque is the first kiblah of Muslims,” underlined Rouhani.
Iranian president also noted that today Jerusalem al-Quds is the third holiest place for Muslims in the world, and if Muslims were silent in face of such an illegal decision, they (the US and the Zionists) would have conspired for more sinister plans later on.
“The global arrogance and the Zionists want to test how the Muslim world reacts. As you see, from the very moment that this wrong and illegal decision was announced, people in the Muslim world rose to show their anger. From the easternmost parts of Indonesia, to the westernmost regions of Morocco, all Muslims stood up against the move and condemned the act.”
Rouhani further emphasized that the Muslim world is resisting against the “wrong” US decision on Jerusalem al-Quds and warned of new tensions and the dire consequences that Trump’s decision would have for the Middle East.
Iran’s president also added that if Islamic countries maintain their unity, it will be a big victory for Muslims and the region.
“Our message is that the Palestinian cause is the most important issue for the Muslim world. They must condemn this move in all international bodies, particularly the United Nations.”
“Over the years, the United States has turned Palestine into the second issue of the region because of the terrorism that it has expanded in the region. Washington was assuming the issue of Palestine is forgotten; therefore they occupied the land of Palestine for seventy years,” added the Iranian president.
He went on to say that although Trump’s decision was a menacing one, it led to a positive move in the history of Islam, and all Muslims in the world shouted at once saying that the Palestinian issue is the first issue of the Muslim world.
On December 6, Trump sparked international outrage by declaring that Washington was recognizing Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of Israel and that he had instructed his administration to begin the process of moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the ancient city.
The announcement prompted harsh international warnings that it would bring more chaos to the Middle East region. Several protests have been held in many countries over the past days against the US and the Israeli regime.
