Iran’s Missile Strikes on ISIS, Strong Warning to US: Syrian Minister

The IRGC’s recent missile attacks on ISIS positions in Syria have made it clear to the US government that it must think twice before launching any attack on the Islamic Republic or mounting any campaign to isolate the country, a Syrian minister says.

Syrian Information Minister Mohammad Ramez Tourjman said Iran’s missile strikes against ISIS positions in the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor have sent a strong message to the government of Donald Trump to drop any potential plan for launching an attack on Iran or mounting a campaign to isolate the Islamic Republic on the international arena.

“Iran’s move to use home-made missiles against ISIS hideouts in Deir ez-Zor was a milestone in fight against terrorism in the region,” he said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency on Sunday.

Tourjman went on to say that the strikes also carried a message to the sponsors of terrorism, particularly the US government which, on the one hand, claims it is fighting terrorism, and on the other hand sponsors ISIS militants.

The Syrian information minister also added that Iran has no hesitation in targeting any group or state   which threatens its security.

“The missile strikes of the Islamic Republic amounted to a direct response to US President Trump who had threatened Iran with war and isolation just recently,” he said.

The minister also said Syrian government relies on the support of its brother states in the region in fight against terrorism and added the terrorists are seeking to change the region through contributing to ethnic divisions but their efforts are doomed to failure.

The era of exploiting other states through terrorism has come to an end, he said, adding any investment in terrorism would backfire.

“The final victory is with us and the flag of Syria would be hoisted over all of our territories once again,” he concluded.

Back on Sunday night, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) fired six mid-range missiles from its bases in western Iran to target ISIS positions in eastern Syria. As a result of the operation, at least 65 ISIS terrorists were killed and many others were wounded, according to the IRGC Quds Force.
