Iranians Think Europe, US Playing Good Cop/ Bad Cop: Araqchi

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi says most Iranians don’t trust the Europeans when it comes to the Iran nuclear deal.

In an address to the second Iran-Europe Cooperation Conference in Brussels on Thursday, Araqchi urged the European sides of the JCPOA to make further efforts to gain the confidence of the Iranian nation.

“Iranians say the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal is part of a good cop/bad cop game played with Iran by the US and the EU (with Trump playing the bad cop),” he was quoted as saying by IRNA.

With the theme of New Horizon, the two-day conference which began on Thursday is mainly focused on exploring ways to counter the Iranophobia project after the US unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal back in May.

The participants of the conference also discuss bilateral cooperation in the areas of technology, energy, national resources and so on.

The first Iran-Europe cooperation conference was held in Vienna in 2015.

The conference provides the two sides with a chance to bring together high-level decision-making leaders and business executives from Iran and Europe to exchange views on various issues.

Araqchi and Iran’s Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari are two keynote speakers from Iran in the conference. They are also set to hold talks with officials in Belgium and European Union.

The US decision to unilaterally pull out of the Iran nuclear deal has sparked harsh reactions from the remaining sides of the deal. Tehran has called on the European sides of the deal to guarantee that Iran can reap the full benefits of the deal or the country will leave the JCPOA soon.
