Two-time Asian champion Esteghlal of Tehran and the past year’s Iran Pro League champion Esteghlal of Khuzestan eased past Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun and the UAE’s Al Jazira, respectively, in 2017 AFC Champions League on Monday.
In its match against Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun, Esteghlal’s Kaveh Rezaei was on target just 50 seconds into the match at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Oman. Al Taawoun backline failed to clear a long throw-in from the right and the ball eventually fell kindly to Rezaei, who finished through a crowd of defenders from eight yards, Tasnim reported.

With two minutes remaining, Brazilian defender Leandro Padovani scored with a header to seal a 3-0 victory for Esteghlal.
