Iranian foreign ministry spokesman has dismissed the anti-Tehran remarks made by his American counterpart Heather Nauert, advising the US administration to be realistic about Iran's role in the Middle East and the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.
“We are not surprised by the repetitive and unrealistic remarks made by this American official [Nauert], and are aware of the intentions and goals behind the repetition of such baseless and groundless claims and accusations raised by various US officials against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Qassemi said in a Wednesday statement.
“The one who has made these remarks does not seem to be much interested in establishment of peace, stability, and security in the Middle East and the world, and not satisfied with the declining trend of terrorism in Iraq and Syria,” he went on to say.
“We advise the American side to be realistic about Iran’s unique role in fight against terrorism in the Middle East,” Qassemi added.
He further referred to Nauert’s claims about Iran’s violation of the nuclear deal, saying, “It is not difficult to prove the Islamic Republic’s compliance with the spirit and text of the JCPOA, which has been repeatedly confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other parties to the deal.”
“The US State Department spokeswoman’s move to accuse Iran of violating the spirit of the nuclear deal seems to be aimed at deviating the international public opinion from the non-constructive and provocative moves the US has repeatedly made against Iran to prevent it from reaping the full benefits of the nuclear deal,” he added.
Qassemi said the measures and approach adopted by the new US administration over the past months are clearly against the text of the JCPOA, which calls on the parties to show ‘goodwill’ and avoid measures that may prevent the ‘successful implementation’ of the international and multilateral deal.
