Iran Seizes 111 Kilograms of Opium Hidden in Tyres

Iran’s security forces have seized at least 110 kilograms of opium embedded in the tyres of a truck near the northeastern city of Mashhad.

Mahdi Khodabakhshi, a deputy prosecutor in Mashhad, said based on reports by intelligence sources, the security forces found out that one of the main drug trafficking bands in the region was planning to smuggle a huge amount of opium to the holy northeastern city.

According to a Farsi report by Mizan, he went on saying that the trafficking band had embedded 111 kilograms of opium in the tyres of a truck.

Khodabakhshi added that a strong team made up of Special Forces was set up to conduct an investigation into the case.

“The truck was stopped in the early hours of Monday at a road leading to the holy city of Mashhad,” he said.

The judiciary official said that the security forces also nabbed the 37-year-old driver of the truck.
