Iranian foreign ministry spokesman has dismissed the final statement of the recent Arab League summit in Cairo and the anti-Iran allegations raised by Emirati and Kuwait representatives during the meeting.
In a statement on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi rejected the Arab League summit’s final statement and the claims made by Kuwait and the UAE on the Iranian islands of Abu Musa, the Greater and Lesser Tunbs, saying such positions are rooted in political motives and lack of understanding of the historical realities.
Qassemi also dismissed the baseless allegations made by Kuwaiti representative on Iran and stated, “Given the tense atmosphere of the Arab League’s meeting yesterday, it seems that by repeating such unfounded charges they want to distract public opinion from the existing facts.”
“The statement issued (in this meeting) is a clear indication of interference in the internal affairs of other countries. Stressing the legal and legitimate measures in our territory, we strongly condemn such claims on the Iranian islands and vehemently reject them,” Qassemi added.
“Such imbalanced stances widen the gaps between regional countries, delaying the targeted regional collaborations, and will not have any other impact.”
“The principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the Persian Gulf littoral states is to observe good neighbourliness, mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and paying attention to the historical and legal realities and current sensitive conditions of the region,” he added.
