“Iran Ready to Counter US’ Non-Compliance with Nuclear Deal”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi says if the United Stated fails to comply with its obligations under the nuclear agreement, Tehran is ready to take any necessary measures.

Qassemi said if Washington keeps breaking its pledges, Iran has considered possible scenarios to counter the move.

In a Farsi interview with the IRIB News Agency, the Iranian spokesman described the process of reviewing the nuclear deal by the US Congress a domestic issue, saying, “What matters to us is the commitment of the US government to fulfilling its obligations on time.”

Washington must stop breaking its pledges, Qassemi added.

“We are following up this issue and what matters is the fulfilment of the obligations of the US. What the Islamic Republic of Iran, the European Union and other countries around the world, and in particular other parties to the nuclear deal, expect the US to do is to meet its commitments under the nuclear accord.”

Qassemi went on to say that this issue is being reviewed by the supervising board monitoring implementation of Iran nuclear deal, and the necessary plans and scenarios have been considered, which will be openly presented at the appropriate time to take steps in case of any misconduct by the US.

His remarks came as the 10th meeting of Iran nuclear deal joint commission is scheduled to be held in Austria’s capital, Vienna, on Wednesday.

The eighth and ninth meetings of the Joint Commission were held on July 21 and September 20, respectively.

The ninth meeting was held at the ministerial level in the US city of New York.

Under the terms of the 2015 nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the commission is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the nuclear deal.
