“Iran Nuclear Deal Could Make World Safer If US Remained Committed”

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has described the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers as a leading role model for resolving all problems across the region and the world, regretting that the US is not living up to its commitments under the deal.

Speaking to a group of Tehran-based ambassadors and foreign guests on Saturday, Rouhani said by adopting the peace-oriented approach used to achieve the Iran nuclear deal, the region and the world can become more secure through deeper cooperation among states.

“Here, I want to explicitly announce that if other sides of the JCPOA, especially the US, remained committed to the nuclear deal, we would have a safer and more secure region and world with better political relations,” he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by the Iranian president’s official website.

He went on to say that if the JCPOA had been implemented completely, Iran would be prepared to hold talks with the world powers over other significant and complicated issues.

“I openly state that the US will commit a strategic mistake if it continues to adopt a politically motivated approach towards the JCPOA and decides to withdraw from the international treaty. If this happens, the world will witness the US’ biggest mistake in its political relations in the world.”

He underlined that Iran has never violated its international commitments since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and expressed hope that the Iran nuclear deal doesn’t collapse and remain a leading role model for resolving regional and world problems.

Rouhani further noted that security is highly important for the new paradigm of security and economy in the region, adding problems like terrorism and separatism are among the main dangers threatening the region.

“Lack of security, foreign powers’ meddling in the region and the 70-year aggression of the Zionist regime, all in all, have hampered the development of the Middle East,” President Rouhani said.

He then added Iran can be the gate to a new Middle East and said the country enjoys high capacities for attracting foreign investments in all fields thanks to its high security, religious and cultural plurality and rich natural resources.

He called for regional cooperation to fight against insecurity and said it is a mistake to think that a state can make progress through strengthening terrorist groups, meddling in regional countries’ internal affairs or conducting airstrikes on its neighbours.

“Military tactics have never led to a lasting solution to the regional problems. Establishing dialogue and finding a political solution is the best way out of the current problems,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president said his country is ready to host foreign investors especially in the fields of oil and gas as well as tourism and mines.

He said over the past two years, Iran has signed significant MoUs and contracts with a number of countries in oil and gas fields and added the Islamic Republic is capable enough of attracting further investments for related projects.
