Iranian foreign ministry spokesman has rejected the statements made by Trump’s advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner, saying that such accusations are the result of the frustration and dismay of American officials.
In a Monday statement, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said if it was not for the recent attempts and sacrifices of the Islamic Republic of Iran to confront terrorist threats and extremism in the region, especially Iraq and Syria, the streets of the United States would now be witnessing terrorist and violent acts by extremist groups.
“For this reason, the international community should appreciate Iran’s principled and rational sacrifices and policies in standing against the extremist and terrorist currents in the region.”
Qassemi went on to say that connecting the Islamic Republic of Iran to aggression and extremism by the US president’s senior advisor is in fact a response that shows the anger, frustration and depression of US officials in the face of Iran’s efforts to confront terrorism.
Therefore, he added, they have resorted to lame excuses against Iran as their survival depends on creating a tense atmosphere against the Islamic Republic in the region.
“These allegations are made at a time that Iran enjoys good relations with its neighbours in the region,” noted the spokesman.
Kushner appeared Sunday at the Saban Forum, an annual meeting of American and Israeli leaders organized by the Brookings Institution.
At this forum, Kushner claimed that the Iranians, with “their nuclear ambitions and their expansive regional mischief,” along with the threat from the ISIS and extremist ideology could best be addressed after the distraction of the Israeli-Palestinian issue was resolved.
He also noted that there had been “significant” progress in uniting Middle East countries against what he claimed was “Iranian aggression”.
