Father of Iranian Genetic Research Dies at 95

Professor Mohammad Ali Molavi, the father of Iran’s science of genetics, passed away at 95 on Sunday May 5.

Born in Tabriz in 1921, Dr. Molavi was a professor of genetics in the University of Tehran. He died of pancreatic cancer at Imam Reza Hospital in the city of Kermanshah in western Iran.

As the first person who introduced the science of genetics to Iran, Molavi was ranked among Iran’s Unforgettable Faces of 2011.

For 30 years, he taught human genetics in Tehran University’s department of Medical Sciences.

Molavi wrote hundreds of articles and trained thousands of students and was the one who  first introduced the science of genetics to Iranians.
