The Chief-Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari has hailed the foiling of a plot against the Houthi Ansarullah movement.
“We witnessed what a coup they wanted to mount against the warriors and Ansarullah in Yemen, but the plot was nipped in the bud,” General Jafari said in an address to a Tuesday ceremony in Tehran.
“Regional nations including Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Bahrain are being attacked because they have learned from Iran’s Islamic Revolution not to accept oppression and coercion,” he noted, according to a Farsi report by Fars News Agency.
“This is why the treasonous Al Saud, as a representative of the US and Israel, is playing an effective role in creating insecurity,” General Jafari added.
“Today, the Saudi traitors are unfortunately engaged in wars against other Muslim nations and seek insecurity in these countries.”
“Ordered and supported by the Americans, Saudis try to cause rift among Muslim people and are accompanying the Israelis,” he went on to say.
The IRGC commander’s comments came one day after Yemen’s ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed during clashes in capital Sana’a, according to a statement by the country’s Interior Ministry.
The statement did not mention how he was killed or who killed him. It just stated that “the crisis created by traitorous militants ended in death of their leader and a number of criminal elements.”
The ministry accused Saleh of creating “chaos” in the country, cooperating with “militias of aggression” and providing help to “extremist militias.”
The ministry added that the Yemeni forces, backed by fighters from the popular Ansarullah Houthi movement, were in full control of all positions previously held by Saleh’s militias in Sana’a.
