A large number of people from the Iranian capital and adjacent cities flocked to Imamzadeh Saleh, a religious site in the northern part of Tehran, on Friday to pray all night long at Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Destiny, when the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
Muslims believe that the three-night prayers on the 19th, 21st, and 23rd of the holy fasting month of Ramadan will cleanse their souls of their sins.
Laylat al-Qadr is also concurrent with the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali, the first Shia Imam.
