US Must Do More on Nuclear Deal: Iran

Iran says the US must do more to encourage banks into doing business with the Islamic Republic following the lifting of sanctions.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told a news conference in Norway on Tuesday June 14 that Iran had yet to feel gains from a July nuclear agreement with the West and other parties.

“I believe the United States on paper has removed all the sanctions,” Zarif said in a joint news conference with EU’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini in Oslo.

“On the banks, I believe it is important for everybody to realize that an agreement will be sustainable if everybody feels they are making gains from the agreement,” he said.

“Its implementation must also be a win-win implementation so that everybody feels there are benefits, there are dividends,” Zarif added.

Mogherini said the EU is engaging with businesses and banks to encourage them to do business in Iran, adding bilateral trade in the first four months this year had risen by 22%.

“We are very actively engaging with the business community and the banks in Europe and elsewhere to encourage engaging in Iran,” she said.
