Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu is set to arrive in Iran later on Wednesday to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.
During the one-day visit, the two sides are expected to hold talks on bilateral issues as well as the latest regional developments.
The situations in Iraq and Syria are high on the agenda, a Farsi report by Tasnim News Agency said.
The visit will come one day after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani strongly slammed Ankara for its ongoing operation in Syria’s Afrin, which is aimed at defeating US-backed Kurdish militants in the war-torn country. Rouhani urged Turkey to immediately stop the operation.
The operation has faced criticisms by Syria, which calls it a violation of its sovereignty.
Iran and Turkey along with Russia have been acting as guarantor states for the peace process in Syria. They are also the main organizers of Astana peace talks aimed at finding a solution to the Syria crisis.
