US Presidential Candidates’ Remarks Enough to Disgrace Washington: Iran’s Leader

Leader of the Islamic Revolution says the scandals recently revealed by the two US presidential candidates suffice to bring shame on the United States.

“These days, the two candidates [Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton] are disclosing facts and disasters from inside the US that I repeatedly talked about, but some didn’t believe me, or didn’t want to believe,” Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in a Thursday meeting with a group of Iranian students in Tehran.

According to a report by the Leader’s official website, Ayatollah Khamenei went on to say that the remarks made by the two presidential candidates indicate the devastation of human values in the US.

The Leader referred to the ethical scandals of US politicians and statesmen as one of the major problems of the American society, and added, “The statements made by these two candidates in recent weeks about the ongoing unethical issues – which don’t seem to be groundless – are enough to disgrace the US.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei warned that a compromise with the US will not resolve Iran’s problems as Washington has not set aside its hostilities towards the Iranian nation.

The Leader warned that the Americans and certain parties seek to persuade the Iranian society that compromise with Washington would settle the country’s issues, Press TV reported.

“This mindset, which is very dangerous, says ‘if we compromise with the United States, all of the country’s problems will be resolved’,” said Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Leader made the remarks as Iran prepares to commemorate on Friday the anniversary of the 1979 takeover of the US embassy by Iranian students in the capital, Tehran.

The 13th day of the Iranian calendar month of Aban, which falls on November 3 this year, is known as the Student Day in Iran, marking National Day of Fight against Global Arrogance.

On this day, a group of Iranian university students took over the US embassy, which they believed had turned into a center of espionage aimed at overthrowing the Islamic Republic in Iran following the country’s Islamic Revolution earlier in 1979.

Ayatollah Khamenei further highlighted US enmities and plots against the Iranian nation over the past three decades, saying Washington has proved it never abides by its promises.

The Leader recalled his numerous warnings over the US role during the process of nuclear negotiations with Iran, saying “currently, it is not only me saying that they break their promises, but Iranian authorities, and even the nuclear negotiators themselves, speak of the US breaching its pledges.”

Washington’s main goal is to hinder the Iranian nation’s progress, warned Ayatollah Khamenei, adding that the US has never stopped its hostilities towards the Islamic Republic.

“How would a government, which has never stopped its hostilities towards the Iranian nation even for a single second, solve the country’s issues,” asked the Leader.

The 1979 takeover of the US embassy by Iranian students was a “natural response” to Washington’s hostile policies towards the nation.
