A senior Iranian intelligence police officer succumbs to the injuries sustained in clashes months earlier with drug traffickers in Iran’s western province of Kermanshah, which borders Iraq.
Colonel Shahram Heydari, who used to head the law enforcement force’s intelligence division in the city of Javanroud, had sustained the injuries late last year in the skirmishes that erupted during a chase of the criminals.
He, however, did not survive the injuries and passed away in hospital on Friday.
Iranian security forces frequently engage in clashes with smugglers and terrorist elements in border provinces.
